Mosquitos and high humidity are making me lose my love for riding my bike as a form of exercise. In fact, I have gone five and a half miles on this bike trail (so 11 total) one side several times this year. I was going to take another long-distance ride today, but turned back after 2 or 3 due to the above annoyances and also in general just not having the energy.
This bike trail though, is fascinating. It stretches from New Haven, CT to Massachussettes and passes right by my house (well at least the extension of it which eventually after a long time merges into the main trail).
Hi Eerybody and Happy 4th eve, Happy Belated Canada Day and All others have my express permission to take a long weekend, I will write notes as needed.
Seems I have some new FB friends, HI! I have not been posting much here but have been lurking. Been too hawt to think here in SE Texas and I have been working outside.
Going to hang out with my my computer geek and his Family(plus who knows who) for most of the day tomorrow and am supposed to see the “cute Readhead” around 10pm, after she gets off work.
Be safe all, {{{{{{}}}}}}}} as needed (gotti), have fun Damnit:)
Two random guys in a beat-up car pulled up next to me at a red light tonight, acted like they needed directions, and then tried to sell me a home theater system they had wedged between the front seats. The story was that they’d “gotten some extras at work today.” And I could have it at a steep discount!
They seemed genuinely surprised when I refused. Because there were no red flags going up at all! “No, officer, it seemed totally normal that two sketchy weirdos I didn’t know from Adam would try to sell me electronics while waiting at a traffic light, what do you mean it’s stolen/contains only shattered bathroom tiles?”
Happy 4th July to those of you who are celebrating! I’m going to have a nice quiet day in the office, my leave sheet has been signed off and I will be off celebrating other things tomorrow.
One of my friends is having a Significant Birthday next week and has invited 34 of us to spend the weekend in a converted farmhouse/barn/stables in Derbyshire with him, partying and generally being silly. So tomorrow I’ll be heading over there armed with the makings of some serious cocktails and looking forward to seeing some friends I’ve not met up with for quite a while.
Before that, I have to suffer a departmental meeting so I guess I will have to sit through that and hope it’s relatively painless.
Fun day ahead for me - I get to wash ALL the bedding from the master suite. Damned Taz peed on my robe/the comforter/the sheets/the mattress pad, barely reaching the foam that sits on top of the mattress. I spot-cleaned the foam but the rest has been flung down the stairs so’s I can launder it. Happy 4th to me! **FCD **has retired to the guest room since he was up way later than I was. I, on the other hand, have apparently reached my 6-hour limit.
It’s supposed to be clear and sunny and hot today - great for drying laundry, but not so great for yardwork. We shall see how much is accomplished. I should probably start the first load of laundry - it’ll soon be light enough to hang it out.
Other than chores, nothing planned for today. If I recall, it’s usually not too noisy around here on the 4th, so at least there’s that.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and, well, already caffienated so no YAWNS this mornin’.
'Tis a very muggy, cloudyish 72 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of ONLY 83 for the day. Positively frigid! Oh and an 80% chance of rain today and tomorrow, down to only a 60% for Sattidy and then alledgedly sunny for a few days next week. We shall see.
**
HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY MUMPER AMURRKINS!!!**
I would have gone all red, white and blue but I’m too lazy. So There!
I dunno Chizz buyin’ electronics at a stoplight sounds perfectly legitimate to me. I’m just sure they really were extras and those gentlepersons were only tryin’ to share their good fortune with others. Then again, fluffy puppies, kitties and unicorns might also be dancin’ on a rainbow in my backyard.
Soon I am goin’ to crank smoker up. It’s just about light enough to do so now. Ribs 'n chikin boobs and laig quarters shall be smoked. YUM!
Ok, tummy is rumbly so I should feed it. Then crank up smoker. Then purtify. Then see if’n I need to go get more ice. A convenience sto’ two miles from da cave has ten lb. bags of ice two for 89 cents. That’s 95 cents with tax. So, rather than go over to the church house for ice I shall go there. The way I figure it, I’d spend more than 95 cents makin’ the twenty-six mile round trip to the church house and back vs the four mile round trip to the sto.
Yay for successful (I assume) surgery gotti! Boo for the pain. Hope it goes away soonest.
First load is on the line, second is in the machine. It’s overcast, but no threat of rain today… in theory…
Apparently the backs of my legs are irresistibly yummy to biting insects. It only took me a minute or two to hang the mattress pad properly, and in that time, something chomped the back of my left leg! I feel like I walk around on insect smörgåsbords! Stoopit bugs.
Well, the lovely deck full of lovely furniture is pretty much in full sun from mid morning till early evening and we’re promised 70% humidity today. I think I’ll pass on lounging under those circumstances. At least some of the yard work will be done in the shade. Altho it’s still overcast right now…
Second load on the lines, comforter in the washer. I think I’ll have enough room for a load of t-shirts and shorts, but that’ll be it. The jeans and towels will be done tomorrow.
I’s up early on a holiday 'cuz I went to bed way early last night. Yesterday, VWife and I went to Harrisonburg, VA over in the Shenandoah Valley to the Green Valley Book Fair. Spent about $100 on HTG books, too. Four hundred miles of day trip tuckered me out.
Damned neighbors. I had John next door let the VunderMutts out a couple of times while we were gone, and the SOB decided on his own to finish mowing the patch in the front yahd left from Tuesday night. Now I OWE him…
Moooooom, I might get that goat, but only if they throw in a half dozen Guineas to munch on the danged ticks in the process.
My plans for today? Practicing my sloth, then fahrworks tonight.
Smokeage is occurin’. I said laig quarters but I really meant just laigs. Big chikin laigs. Plus chikin boobs and what burly butcher says are “St. Louis Style” ribs, whatever that might mean. I had them cut in “riblets” rather than whole slab cause I likes the way they smoke like that plus, just cause.
Forgot to mention we had a biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig thunderboomer around eight last night. Big almost continous lightnin’ for half an hour and torrential frawg stranglin’ rain. More promised for the day as well. Rah.
Rosie I definitely ain’t the one to ask such questions of but I’m sure all our resident Doper experts will be along with an opinion shortly.
I’s all purtified and have been to get more ice and some hotdawg buns because I decided we needed to observe the Fourth of July tradition of burned up hot dawgs on the grill. Sometimes ya just gots to go with the old tried and true traditions.
I have walked the dog, taken a quick trip to the store, and begun the summer house-cleaning. Which is daunting. But I sat Roomie down last night and told her that I go to the office every day and I do the vast majority of work for my entire department, then I come home and I pay the bills and I clean the house and I make all the plans while she sits on the couch and watches tv, and I can’t do it that way anymore. So even though she has to work this morning (and a full day tomorrow, thanks to Canadian clients who don’t care about American holidays–I thought Canadians were supposed to be polite!), she’s going to come home and help me clean later. She absolutely sucks at cleaning and will probably hurt her back or her knees or any number of other places, but I’ll give her points for trying. And maybe the fact that I was a screaming, crying, hyperventilating mess last night will help her remember to put the effing nail polish back in the bathroom or “when I can’t see the tv anymore” is not an acceptable time to *stop *piling things on the coffee table. She has acknowledged that it’s time she started behaving like a grownup and stopped allowing me to be either her mother or her wife, depending on how much I’m cleaning up after her at any given moment.
So that’s one huge problem in my life down. At least on paper. Soon I’ll have to handle the whole imbalance-of-work thing, but I have to figure out how to do it diplomatically, first.
