This is the title Discourse lets me put in as a MMP

I found out yesterday that my niece’s husband is a macho nutcase. He doesn’t want anything even remotely girly to be part of their son’s life. The kid is 2. I’m pretty sure wearing a pink hat or wanting rainbow sneakers won’t warp his sexual identity, whatever that turns out to be. But macho sports-guy daddy ain’t taking any chances.

My sister wanted to put Roxy’s light-up rainbow sneakers on Grayson and post a pic, just to screw with his dad. She didn’t, but she should have.

It amazes me that a 30-something in this day and age still clings to such a mentality… and it makes me ask: swampy - did your aunt put rainbow sneakers on you when you were 2? Was that the tipping point??

Are you implying that our Swampykins might be … gasp … gay? Next you’ll be telling me that there is pornography on the internet. [Clutches pearls and faints]

Up stupid early on my day off, instead of sleeping in, because SOMEbody started using my bed (with me still in it) to practice their racecar impressions.

Good thing I went to bed stupid early, eh?

WINTER IS HERE. It’s sleeting.

I let the cats out so Monkey could burn off some steam, aaaaand … turns out he’s not a big fan of blustering cold-ass gusts of wind, nor of tiny ice pellets falling from the sky.

Go figure!

First of several loads of laundry are a-spinnin’ downstairs, and both litter boxes are scooped, thankyouverymuch.
I also have another bag o’crap to donate ready by the door.

And I do have science experiments a-plenty to toss out. I think the beef stew is gonna start waving back at me soon.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s November and that means I am once again going to give myself the additional stress of NaNoWriMo…started this morning and have 2K words done already.

I am avoiding the book of face for a while, there’s way too much stupid on there about our new national lockdown and those who weren’t able to make sense of what the bumbling buffoon was saying are now flooding it with nonsense questions, and panic-buying loo roll again.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. it’s cold and drizzly, but I got Gordie to do his business anyways.

" Watching porn gives an unrealistic expectation of how quickly a plumber will show up"

You can never have too much loo roll or whiskey when the COVID Zombie Apocalypse starts.

And the monsoon has begun.

Morning all. Up at 6:45am (7:45am on my body clock), still need to change a couple clocks, several do it themselves which makes my job easier.

Trick or treat went OK, about 30 customers, all parents that I saw waiting on the sidewalk were masked (as was I when I opened the door) and the kids were pretty well-behaved. Still have way to many Kit-Kat and M&M’s in the house than is healthy for me.

doggio, my most recent ref uniform doesn’t have too many stripes…but it is bright enough to stand out in a crowd…https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1662/6383/products/trjtykytbsddsfgewr677_1_530x@2x.jpg?v=1541876150

Dice, not only that, for the ‘roomette’, you have to go downstairs to use the facilities. Still enjoy it, though.

All y’all have a good Sunday now.

It’s Sunday, so no laving or shaving around these parts. All the clocks save one have been reset or reset themselves. I need to be fully awake to get the stepladder out to reset the big clock. Laundry has been started. Then it’s litter boxes, a good washup, then the making of the pulled pork and deviled eggs for dinner. Sunny and warm here in SoCal. Smiles for everybody getting snow and sleet.

A blessed All Saints Day to those who celebrate.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, clocks that needed to be reset reset and fixing to put some Ethiopian chicken in the crock and do KP. Not much beside the usual Sunday chores slated for the day.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Trash and recycling was disposed of before the rain set in. Immediately afterwards, we headed towards WalMart, only to remember that we didn’t have masks in the truck, so home again, home again…

We headed south again in my car, got what we needed, found a short check-out line, and got out of there in a reasonable amount of time. Then we swung by daughter’s place for a minute before returning home. Since getting back, we’ve lunched and cleaned the dehumidifier hose. Second load in the washer, first in the dryer. I pulled a sack o’soup out of the freezer for supper.

I also reserved parking so daughter, Roxy, and I can go to the National Zoo in DC on Saturday. SIL has to work and FCD doesn’t want to have to walk that much. We’ll take the stroller for when Roxy poops out. We plan to go early - weather promised to be loverly. Fingers crossed…

FCD is in veg mode. I’m playing on the computer. Rain continues. Just another soggy day in southern Merrylande.

Wait! What??? Swampy’s gay? :scream:
(INGO)

Somehow those two sentences together gave me an unfortunate mental picture.

I spent a winter at my Gramma’s farm in central Michigan one year, and I remember having to use a long stick to probe for my car (a Triumph TR4) in the snow.
Have fun, Shoe.

When does FCD get his new ride, Mom? I used to turn up my nose at Caddys until I rode in one. Very nice. You should enjoy it.

We replaced our terlet last night with a taller one. A bit of advice: do NOT start a renovation project on a Saturday afternoon just before the local hardware store closes.
The old water supply line was too short.
The wimminfolk drove to The Dalles to get a longer one. 40+miles away. They had a good time at Home Depot though.

We’re a’fixin to have biskits and gravy for breakfast/lunch here in a bit. :yum:

It’s 40F outside.

Not much happening today. Might try to jerry-rig a light out over the deck.
there’s a couple of switches by the side door that don’t go to anything. We think there used to a porch on that side of the house and if the wiring is still there for a porch light and that’s what the switches were for, we’re golden. We’ll see.

Have a nice Sonday everybody.

Hope you got the parking space lined up. The Zoo sounds like great fun for the Rox. I have a grand zoo very near me for when you two want to visit, plus the SAC Museum, betcha Roxy would love that too. I’ll show her live bison in the nearest state park to me. No beaches to speck of, but there are seas of grass.

Why am I always the last to know? Sheesh. Not promising to remember it though. And another thing, is there such a creature as a swampbear? Are they to be feared, like badgers? I have a friend down the block who is Steve, the Badger. He taught my sons AP Science lo these manyyears ago. So I know about badgers but not swampbear.

Having my granddaughter wrangling Sunday, which being lots of fun and pretty much what I live for all week every week. It’s cool here but marvelously clear and sunny.

Hope the project worked out. I have ambitions of putting a motion sensor yard light up in my backyard next spring for when my roommate starts parking her car back there, off the alley, on the cement pad where the decrepit garage o’ mine used to be. Exactly how I’m going to get electricity to it is a whole ‘ other question.

First step is to verify that our credit union has fixed their IT issues. Then I need to move some money around and arrange for a wire transfer to the dealer. With luck, I can get that done tomorrow. Once they have the $$$, they’ll arrange for transport so we don’t have to drive up there. It’ll be about $400 to have it delivered, as opposed to driving 5 anna half hours there and 5 anna half hours back. Anyway, I’m guessing we’ll see some time after Nov 9.

Then it’ll have to get a MD inspection so FCD can title it here. Plus we need to make space in the garage, since it’s a bit bigger than his HHR. That means daughter needs to move some of her crap out.

BBBoo - I’ve got my ticket for parking ready to print. In normal times, we’d go via Metro, but not in plague days. Roxy will love the train… some day in the future. And I’ve been to the SAC museum - that’s the one with the Blackbird, right? I visited there 20 years ago when I was on a training trek for work. My guide was a retired USAF vet who I knew from another job.

MetalMouse - you’ve got me interested in taking a train trip. Does the Empire Builder make stops so one can be a tourist? I need to do some investigating.

The rain stopped early and big ball of fire is lighting up the world! Last load is in the dryer. Soup is thawing and I’m thinking about making a blueberry crumble for dessert. So goeth my day.

Mumpers, I gotta admit: I’m anxious and having a hard time focusing. It’s the impending election and how much is riding on the results. And I don’t like what it’s doing to my personality. Example: last night I did something I’d often fantasized about but would never dare do. I…pounded on the ceiling with a broom when the Boys Upstairs had loud music going for too long. It worked, too, but I immediately worried I might have upset them. And I find I’m liable to burst into tears over moving stuff that would have merely elicited an “Aww” a few weeks ago.

I need Tuesday to be over. I know the election probably won’t be decided, but surely we’ll have a better sense of how things are likely to go.

Yes, there is. He posts here frequently, and the only danger is you might chuckle to death.

Bumba, hope you, uh, enjoy the Tall Terlet.

I thought that was the whole point of Halloween.

I have enough loo roll to last me a good while. I didn’t think about the whiskey, though. How much is one supposed to have? Will I have to elbow thirsty people out of the way to get the lone remaining bottle on the liquor store’s shelves? “Back off, b*tch–I mean Sister–that bottle’s mine!” [shudder]

nut, that is seriously messed up. No masks on students in classrooms? No masks on teachers? Whoa. I just read that unmasked, they’re the most likely ones in a classroom to spread COVID because they DO have to shout. My teacher friends are all required to mask up. One said her throat is perpetually sore from having to shout through her mask. She teaches a lot of freshmen. “Shout” is her default setting.

Dice, as I’m sure others will attest, Glacier is stunning. I used to live in the general area and was awestruck on every one of many visits. I wish I could go back.

shoe, it really will be OK. You’ll get acclimatized in no time.

I built and baked a blueberry crisp for dessert.

I also went to a vacation-by-rail website and found a trip that starts in Chicago, goes to the west coast where you catch a cruise ship and cruise Alaska. If I can figure out a proper return by rail, I may book it. Not sure when - I need to work it around our other cruises.

In a little bit, I’ll warm up the soup for supper. It’s definitely a soup-for-supper day!

Yep! Official guidance here is that wearing masks in the classroom is to be discouraged- it’s not technically completely banned, for staff, but my irkplace certainly doesn’t allow teachers to wear one, though support staff working one-on-one are being allowed to.

Students may wear masks, but we’re not allowed to ask them to. Hardly any are where I’m working, and I’ve even caught some of the staff -in the staff room- laughing at the students who are choosing to wear them  One of them went from ‘It’s stupid to wear a mask- the incidence rate is pathetically low round here, so why worry?’ to ‘It’s stupid to wear a mask, it’s spreading so fast we’re all going to get it anyway and we might as well just get it over with’ in under 3 weeks. At no point did he pass through sense.

Half our students are adults, incidentally, so I really don’t understand why the guidance which repeatedly claims that it’s OK because kids without underlying conditions rarely get sick is being applied. I’m hardly convinced it’s OK to turn teens into plague vectors anyway.

As you may imagine, I’m not looking forward to work starting up again tomorrow after a week’s break. It does look like it’ll be dry enough that I can have my one class outside though- that’s only 2 students anyway, so easy enough to keep distance.

[/grump]

:cheese:?
No.
:poop: :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:.

swampbears are not to be feared, unless you mix stripes and polka dots, or wear seersucker after Labor Day. Drop bears are another matter.

{{{nellie}}}

I don’t know anything about swampbear or badgers, but I have a couple friends who are Turtles…

Ever since I was a kid and saw the ads for the dome cars on western railroads, I’ve wanted to ride in one. So far the closest I’ve come is the C&NW commuter trains to Chicago… It seems the Conway Scenic RR up in NH has a dome car, though, so maybe when things get back to normal we can go up there… Diesel power, but one can’t have everything… :frowning:

Cars are just transportation to me – I never got into the hotrod/sportscar scene. But as far as I’m concerned, the best-looking cars were built in the late '20s and early '30s.

Drop bears must have been what I was thinking of. Noted, I’ll stay away from nether regions of Australia. Heck, as for swamp bears, I don’t wear white between Memorial Day and Labor Day, much less after or seersucker. I raised myself right, against great odds, after all.
Moooooom Yes, the Blackbird, Peacekeeper, Goblin and Sabre and a MIG or two, assorted missiles. Pretty amazing museum-they expanded and redid it recently. Pre Covid there was an air show every summer that attracted hundreds of thousands, which is devotion, standing out on tarmac for hours in Nebraska sun. My dad always took my sons, fools and Englishmen, yah know…Which brings us back to boys and their toys-glad FCDad got his coolio caddie. He can now take you on really creature comfortable road trips (tell him I said you get to control the radio stations and AC temp).

This particular vehicle has separate temp controls for each side, so he can have a/c and I can have heat. Or whatever. Radio isn’t an issue - we tend to like the same stuff, mostly.

Supper was the last of the veggie/beef/noodle soup. Blueberry crisp for later. Nothing else productive for tonight. As it should be!
