Tiger Woods injured

People were just assuming that since he wasn’t photographed for so long that perhaps he had some damages done to his face. Cookie cutter statement or not, I’m interested to see and hear him on Friday.

All kidding aside, the hospital spokesperson described the injuries.

This is also during the tourney sponsored by the first sponsor who dumped him - Accenture. He wants to take away a bit of their publicity.

Some Notable Golf Pros speak out of the timing of the Press Conference.

Ernie Els:

Rory McIlroy:

Geoff Ogilvy

I love this from his agent:

It’s always good to get your information right before commenting. It’s strictly a timing issue. There is a very good reason (for Friday) and not do it next week.

Of course, he wouldn’t want to share those very good reasons, would he. :stuck_out_tongue:

The guy has chosen not to compete for 3 months, and now he has absolutely no control over his horribly hectic schedule to read a prepared statement…

Won’t somebody think of the poor global management consultancy firms?

Yep, Accenture was one of Tiger’s sponsors that dropped him. Coincidentally, Accenture is the sponsor this week, on the biggest pro tournament thus far this year.

Tiger knew this would detract attention from Accenture’s event.

I don’t think it was getting that much attention anyway. It’s not exactly the Masters. If anything the carping of Els and the others will bring attention to the tournament.

Seriously, is Tiger making a statement on friday going to stop anybody from watching the World Match Play?
Frankly, the biggest factor that stops people from watching golf tournaments, and depresses media attention is if Tiger’s not playing in them.

Extremely doubtful, since TV coverage will not begin until well after Tiger is off the air.

Tiger is lucky that most of his appeal is to men. When they show the women he was doing, a guy thinks,“I would hit that, if I could get away with it:”. Women fans, not so much. They will not forgive.

The sports/talk radio show on my morning commute today asked listeners to send in what they thought Tiger would say at tomorrow’s event.

This one caught my attention:
“I apologize to every one of the women with whom I have not yet had sex.
Give me time. I am moving as fast as I can.”

He will probably play a small tourney or 2 and then the Masters. The Masters people are so uptight there is no way they will put up with anyone heckling him.

Well I’d say you are 0 for 2 at best.

It was: carefully scripted, not vague, admitted to nothing new and asked for privacy for his family. I’d say he was 3 for 4. He could be 2 for 3 if you give him a sacrifice on the admitting nothing part.

He’s still (probably) the best golfer in the world which is all that he’s ever really been. I agree with Ernie, Tiger is just being selfish, again.

You don’t think it was carefully scripted?

He admitted to nothing specific, just affairs and he cheated.

And he told the press to stay away from his business.

Yeah, I agree with Ernie, too. He should’ve done this on a Monday. It’s not a huge deal, but it would be the right thing to do not to interfere with an ongoing tournament. Sure, the press conference was before the tournament began, but I’m watching it now, and Nick Faldo did a recap for us all and gave his comments.

What “new” stuff do you think he should have admitted to? He admitted to cheating. What else is there? Do you think he also killed somebody or cheated on his taxes? What kind of a criticism is that?

So what if it was scripted? What kind of an idiot would go out there unprepared? What is the relevance of observing that he thought about what he was going to say before he said it?

How so? Tiger is going back into rehab tonight. This was the only window he had to make this statement. How is Ernie Els (poor baby) being injured by Tiger giving a speech?

he couldn’t have waited until monday. He was on a short break from rehab, and he’s going back in tonight.

I really don’t see Els’s point at all. No one who cared about this thing this weekend is going to suddenly STOP caring because Tiger gave a speech.

None of that was criticism. It was merely disagreeing with Contrapuntal’s score keeping of notfrommensa’s prediction.

I don’t believe that Ernie said he was being injured. He said that Tiger was being selfish. He’s drawing attention to himself during the biggest match play tournament in the world. One put on by one of the first sponsors to drop him. Do you really think Tiger couldn’t have waited a few days to make his announcement? What purpose did this “press conference” serve that had to be done today? He could have released the statement on Wednesday and it would have accomplished the same thing. He could have waited until Monday and released it. Doesn’t the timing seem the least bit fishy to you?

On preview: Assuming that, for Og know why, this was the only time available because of his short break from therapy, why not wait until his therapy was finished? Was the golf world clamoring for a prepared statement that only acknowledged what everyone already knew?

From what I understand, he was off all week. Nothing preventative him from having this “chat” on Monday or Tuesday of this week.
