Tiger Woods injured

He’s a trained athlete, so I’m assuming (I know nothing of his wife) that if he wanted to, he could physically overpower her.

I would guess that he didn’t want to. Maybe he won’t defend himself out of guilt (I assume here she has good reason to be angry with him) or maybe he simply refuses to raise his hand against his wife, no matter what she does.

So instead he runs.

I assume she smashed it as he was leaving. A window smashing right behind him may certainly cause him to turn around and see what hell happened; if he didn’t stop the car first, that’s a destraction that could very easily cause an accident.

That part could be quite real.

Edit: I see Ferret Herder has already covered this.

As an aside, we’ll probably find out eventually.

Other than spousal abuse, you mean. (I know, your wording wasn’t clear. Not trying to nitpick, but it’s worth pointing out that a crime may well have been committed, just not by him.)

Has it been bothering anyone else that everyone’s taking the National Enquirer’s allegations of an affair so seriously now? Do we really think there has to be a good reason for Tiger’s wife allegedly hitting him with a golf club? I mean, the Toronto freaking Star seems to equate the abuse with an affair. But he’s a major celebrity — surely there’s a tabloid accusing him of having an affair about once a week?

It bothers me somewhat, but here’s the thing: his explanations for what happened have been incomplete and both the story and his actions are raising suspicion. That makes the rumors easier to believe. And I think the Enquirer story came out before the accident. If it had come out after, it would probably look like opportunism. And the Enquirer was correct about John Edwards having an affair, which is probably fresh in a lot of people’s minds at this point.

The idea that she hit him with a club is ridiculous on its (heh) face. He’d have been seriously injured or killed. I guess you’re right that she could have gone after him for no reason rather than for a concrete reason, assuming that happened at all.

A 4 Wood. She chose it for Woods.

You become eligible after three years. You still have to apply for it though.

If she is a permanent resident and was convicted of a felony, that could jeopardize her residency status.

…and what do you get for supervising the Straight Dope Celebrity Death Pool?

Well, I am sure that “influencing the results” is a major felony…

You mean injured to the point where you are lying in the street drifting in and out of consciousness?

She wouldn’t have had to hit him flush, either. Maybe she landed a glancing blow off of the hosel of the club. (At which point, Tiger could have told her to close her stance and move her right hand further down, )

And that would be why Tiger left in such a hurry. All golfers know that sh**ks are contagious. Indeed, the word cannot even be spoken or written without risk of catching the affliction.

I still say continued stonewalling is his best approach - and plays to one of his strengths.

The public is VERY forgiving of accusations of infidelity, and will soon lose interest so long as no new material surfaces.

Any imagined scenario is better for him than one in which Elin had shown visible injuries.

This is my daughter Sam Alexis and her younger brother Charlie Axel and here’s the new arrival, Joseph Paul… but we just call him Grudgefuck.

Heh imagine the media circus if his and his wifes’ roles were reversed in this scenario.

Timed out…

Who was it, ESPN(?) that mentioned yesterday that while we as a public look down with some distaste upon our heroes that philander, it pales in comparison with how we view those that aren’t honest with us. I’m afraid Mr. Woods is doing himself a bit more harm than he realizes by being less than forthright about the incident. If he’s concerned with image then tell what happened and move on. The public will forgive.

I think she beat the crap out of him and chased after him with a golf club, breaking a car window in the process. To cover up the damage to himself and the car, he deliberately ran over the hydrant and into the tree. I think he’s stuck with an unplayable lie.

I’m not sure of this. Who are some examples of “heroes” who fall in public view for not being “honest with us.”

I think the ones who get in trouble are those who actively lie. As I see it, simply refusing to talk is somewhat different. All he has to do is keep saying, “This is a family matter. Thank you for respecting my privacy. Please judge my accomplishments on the course, and my contributions to charitable endeavors.” So long as he does, any commentary is nothing more than unsubstantiated rumor.

It is no secret that a great many athletes - pro golfers no exception - are total horndogs. So long as Tiger and Elin keep quiet, the worst that could happen is the “other woman” opening her yap. If Tiger refuses to acknowledge that, over time she will simply come across as a gold-digger/family wrecker.

JMO.

A bit of a double standard took place imo what would have happened if the roles were reversed, ELin in the getaway caddie with Tiger to the rescue with his club? I don’t think the authorities would be so accommodating, and they might press a little harder to speak with the missus even if she didn’t want to talk them.

Dang though to actually pick up the club and chase his ass down and knock out the two rear windows of the car, what a spectacle! ANd the neighbors were awake, I would think at that time of night, behind the walls of my mansion I wouldn’t hear a thing. Were the Woods getting loud? They live in a security patrolled subdivision, why weren’t the local rent a cops on the beat? And the 911 caller was not very revealing, keeping the report very simple on the details.

The NY papers had the best headlines “Tiger hides his tail”

Dunno about that: if his wife did assault him, the cops may lay charges and in that case it will not blow over.

The last part doesn’t make any sense. All he would have to do is cancel his appearances & keep his face hidden for a few weeks. Staging an accident that would make everything public would be a really dumb idea.

With nobody talking, what would be the point of filing charges? No way in hell there would be enough to convict anyone.

You do dumb things in a panic. If he got beat up by a woman, he may have been desperate to make the injuries more plausible and protect his male ego. Stranger things have happened. That’s my speculation and I’m sticking to it.
