Polycarp was an excellent, well known poster. I am so sorry to hear this.
My condolences. I always enjoyed reading his posts, and the reasoned and civil arguments he made in Great Debates. He was one of those dopers that have made this place great.
Wow. This is a shock. He’s been a fixture here for so long. (I see he signed up a couple of months before I did.) I never, until just now, looked up the origin of his name. I liked to think it meant ‘many complaints’. 
(Not that he was a complainer; just how I parsed his name.)
I’m saddened by this news, and wish you and yours comfort.

I am so sorry! I had a fondness for the guy before, but now having read his past stuff, my heart aches that we’ve lost such a good soul and passionate warrior for Christ. I only hope that his eternal resting place can be a true source of comfort for you.

OHnoohnoohno! I don’t log on frequently these days and this! He was erudite and (IMO) patient and I learned interesting things from his posts. He’ll be missed.
I was horribly afraid of this after noticing his prolonged absence form these boards.
My most heartfelt sorrow and sympathies to you and all others who share our grief at this profound loss.
There simply is no way to express my sorrow for you and the others blessed with his love.

I’m shocked and saddened by this news! Thank you very much for letting us know, Mrs. Carp. I was just thinking recently that I hadn’t seen him on the board lately. There are very few people whose absence from the board I would find so noticeable. He was (and is) one of my very favorite posters, and I always wished I could meet him in person.
