My gosh Mrs. Carp, his loss is a blow to us all and I’m so sorry to hear of this. As you well know he held a special place here in a lot of hearts and minds and will be missed in so many ways. Polycarp never ceased to amaze me with his tremendous knowledge of such a wide variety of subjects. He also had a very human, approachable quality that endeared him to so many. I really enjoyed discussions with him both public on the board and private through PMs. His unique personality shined through each and every time.
This is awful news. Polycarp is one of the first people I remember when I think about my initial experiences with Christian Forums and the Straight Dope. He was a great influence and seemed like a really great man.
I didn’t always agree with him, but I respected him and enjoyed his posts immensely.
Oh, no, what horrible news. My sincere condolences.
He was an eloquent, sincere man of faith who was comfortable speaking to and listening to all. I remember ages ago, he invited me to participate in a forum called “The Pizza Parlor” because he and his fellow Christians were interested in hearing an Orthodox Jewish perspective.
I am very sorry to hear of Polycarp’s passing. Although we followed very different spiritual paths, I very much enjoyed conversing and learning from him when I was an active participant here on the Dope. My thoughts are with you and your family.
Thank you for taking the time to let us know about David - I am so sorry.
I always looked forward to seeing Polycarp’s name in a thread - knowing that he would provide insight and wit - he seemed like a very kind, loving person who lived his faith on a daily basis.
I always enjoyed reading his contributions in Great Debates. As an atheist, I was usually rooting for the other side of the argument, but when Polycarp posted, he always scored points. He was very respected here and it was obvious that as a Christian, he was the real deal. This world will be a darker and colder place without his light.
I’m so sorry to hear about this - Polycarp was a very well known, respected and liked member of the boards, and it’s a diminished place without him. Thank you for letting us know, and my condolences to you and your family.
