To: The NYC mob of "planned civil disobedience" FUCK YOU

God, so much stupidity in one paragraph almost dont know where to start. First i see that you let your anger drop your IQ by about 60 points and it seems to have effected your reading comprehension. No one here has in any way shape or form challenged a persons right to free speech. Lawless free speech<ie violence etc> is not free speech in and of itself but an excuse for behaving in an uncivilized manner. There are clear laws that have been established and voted on by our Representatives that establish what constitutes free speech and when and where and what you can do and cant. Learn them and DO them. Civil protest is an old and respected form for getting change and there is nothing wrong with it. However, violence and not treating your fellow man with respect as to his/her opinion is acting like a barbarian and there is no room in this society for such nonsence.
As for your stated reason to “piss you the fuck off and remind you that a far off war affects you” is such a festering load of alligater come that it makes me see red. <Pardon the “red” pun>. First off, the war is the largest media event on the planet right now. I nor anyone else need YOU to remind us of ANYTHING regarding the war. There is no lack of reading materials to better inform yourself of the pending issues of this conflict. What we DONT need is some self rightious assholes running around in the street thinking its his mission to inform all those people that dont believe what he does that they are wrong and to better prove his point break stuff and hurt people. i mean…HUH??? Did you just have a complete logic burnout?

And a robotic Richard Simmons.

I suspect not. People like Ace of Swords are more interested in mob rule than either teaching or learning.

I don’t have a TV and haven’t heard of the incident(s) you folks are describing here. Nice to know that (most of) you aren’t hitting all anti-war protesters with the FUCK YOU pellet, just the jerks you’ve described.

::sigh::

I don’t really like any of the “march in street / chant slogans / carry picket signs” stuff, neohippie or not. In addition to making me feel like a kindergartener playing musical chairs or something, the events seem to attract the kind of people who like black-and-white worlds. Four legs good, two legs bad. What do we want? Absolutes! When do we want it? Now! Bleah…

Unfortunately I haven’t been invited by my representatives to a town hall meeting to discuss the issue.

And sharks, with frickin’ laser beams on their heads.

No shit, Sherlock. This may come as a surprise to you, but I already know that! I’ve had this war cost me at least one job, and possibly others. I know at least one person IRL who is now over there fighting in the Army, I’ve met Kurds who escaped from Saddam’s Iraq, and in case I somehow take leave of my senses CNN’s kind enough to broadcast the war 24/7 so that I don’t forget! Jeebus! Do you halfwits think that we’re behind this war because we don’t know what’s going on or that it affects us? Keerist! I got news fer ya, we’ve got a very good idea of that, thank you very much. Now go do something productive with your time and let me do something productive with mine.

Ah, yes. Thank God those antiwar protesters are around to enlighten me. I was so complacent yesterday, but now that I’ve seen that news report about the rioting and violence, my horizons are so much broader now. Why, shit. I think I’ll go stomp on a few puppies tonight to remind people of world hunger. Thanks, Ace of Swords, your keen insight and moral steadfastness has made me a better person!

I too am inspired! I’m conducting a lie-down in my office right now!

I just wish that everybody in the office hadn’t already left for the day…

…zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz:o

Why are you being so passive? Freaking organize one! Call up your Representative and figure out a date in the relatively near future. Contact local community groups for help.

I mean, if you really want a chance to have a community discussion about it…if you were just making an offhand remark, I take it all back.

Yep, that’s the image I was referencing. However, it’s still the first image on my link for my computer. Bizarre.

Fuck that’s a stupid sign.

World Eater, gobear, think you guys misunderstood what the irony I saw was. IThe irony I saw was the fact that the violent/obstructionist protesters are protesting the war in a manner in which it is patently obvious they do not give a fuck about anyone but THEIR opinion and view, they must be right (accroding to them), and hence, don’t give a shit who they inconvenience/injure/run roughshod over to get their own way.

Much like the manner in which the US government decided and declared this war in.

Irony. Mmm, mmm good.

Fuck people who are trying to get to their jobs.

Fuck liberating the people of Iraq.

Fuck deposing Saddam.

Fuck giving aid to the Iraqis.

The real fuck here goes to those who adhere to those beliefs, purposely or inadvertently.

So Cerri, why have you arbitrarily decided that the government has somehow decided that they dont give a fuck about anyone and are shooting at the hip terrorizing innocent countries or something with no basis for thier action? I prefer to believe that they have informnation that neither you nor i have and are making an educated desicion to best help protect ourselves from future harm. Why does it "HAVE" to be an ill considered desicion, and why do you assume that the government doesnt give a shit who they injure? Maybe they simply made a risk analysis of all the facts that we clearly arnt privy to and made a reasonable judgement call to do a certian action? Why does the government have to be somehow inherently evil..when its entirely possible that they are doing what is in all of our best interests using information that we as citizens dont have?

jonpluc this is the SDMB where everyone knows everything about anything. Anyone who speculates that the government might actually do something right once in a while is clearly ignorant, and only believing the tripe they are served by corporate media, which is just a tool of the military industrial complex. Where have you been?

As a follow-up…if Iraq turns out NOT to have WMDs President Bush will have destroyed his credibility and his re-election chances. In terms of pure self interest above and beyond just having the will to “do the right thing” is enough incentive for me to believe that Iraq does indeed have WMD and are willing to use them. I dont think that George has ANY interest in going down in USA history as an agressor that attacked a Country for reasons that turned out not to be valid.

Gotcha, your post makes more sense to me now.

Right, jon, which is why the US will immediately launch a program of planting WMD if our troops don’t find any. Please do try to keep up. [sub]Notice to the Sarcasm Impaired: This post was made using the new Sarcasm XP Generator™[/sub]

Perhaps it was because nothing else was working? That we’ve been tired of being marginalized and herded and dismissed?

“Lawless Free speech?” Civil disobedience is certaily lawless, as were the protests of Ghandi, MLK, and Vietnam. How are they suddenly equated with acid-throwing punks?

Violence and “lawless” civil disobedience are not the same thing, no matter how often you conflate them. I’m defending the latter, not the former.

What you have is repetitive and useless information – what many of you lack is a sense of impact and priorities if a traffic delay makes you see red but “Operation Iraqi Freedom” doesn’t.

I’m all for peaceful protests, as are the vast majority of protestors and police, though, yes, there are bad apples on both sides.

Which is mostly irrelevant, except for those demagogues who want to hold up a bad apple to the light and condemn the whole barrel.

If you’re interested in counting up the bad apples on the other side, you’d have to turn to the web:

Start at the NYCLU’s page where they have received 250 violence incident reports from NY Feb. 15th march alone. Also here or here.
