She reminds me of Ayn Rand. And his shot will take on a whole new meaning once his Nazi movie’s in wide release. They look nice, but I think you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who wouldn’t with that lighting/make-up/retouching job.

A turned-up collar and black & white photography don’t make give Mr. Cruise a 40’s vibe to me. He doesn’t have a 40’s face.

Slightly off-topic, I just found this old picture of Tom and laughed my head off. What a weird, cheesy smile.
He’s holding his jaw wrong. It’s hard to describe if you can’t see it. His face is a little too relaxed and his mouth is a little too soft.
I agree with this. This type of shoot would work better with an actor who had a more old-fashioned look about him, like Jon Hamm or Aaron Eckhart. Cruise doesn’t have that classic movie star look (which isn’t to say he isn’t handsome, of course).

Katie looks good (except that last picture… freaky) but Tom looks like Dustin Hoffman.
It looks like they were going for a Montgomery Clift look for Tom, and failed.
I think they made Cruise look a lot like Michael Rennie as Klaatu in The Day the Earth Stood Still.
I’d have to say that’s more of a Thirtieslook than a Forties look.
