Tony Snow dies.

Trolls care what people think. They are trying to piss people off, afterall.

Guess bad taste is here to stay. And we are all the poorer for it.

R.I.P. Tony Snow and my condolences to all of your loved ones.

Well Diogenes, I also can say that I do respect you. I even understand why one should despise Tony Snow.

However wishing death, pain and suffering is not deserved in this case.

The case of Jessie Helms was different for me because unlike Tony Snow, Helms was on record of really dancing on the graves of thousands of Central Americans (What about if the death squads or the military are killing priests or syndicalist leaders? “Who cares, they are communists anyhow” Helms was reported to have said then). And when one takes into account his senate votes and actions made it easier for the military monsters of Central America to kill priests and peasants then I see a good reason to celebrate when the perpetrator is no longer here. (Bush does get into this area BTW but not third string minions)

Unless you can show me when Tony Snow said that he was glad of the many deaths in Iraq or deaths caused by his direct action I do have to say that that post of yours was really improper.

Whoa. Dude. Harsh.

Each man’s death diminishes me,
For I am involved in mankind.
Therefore, send not to know
For whom the bell tolls,
It tolls for thee. ~John Donne

The bad acts continue to exist, and can certainly continue to be decried and fought, but the bad guy is done; he’s either dust or facing whatever religion may have prepared for him.

That’s at least the origin of the concept.

By all means start a thread to discuss the legacy of Tony Snow, the role of the press secretary, his contribution to various atrocities, etc.

But in spite of my almost total disagreement with his politics, I liked the man, and I’m sad that he had to suffer and die so young.

A message board, even the BBQ Pit forum, is supposed to be a dialogue, not some jerk shouting his hatred at the world. He can start a blog, for that.

Diogenes, you didn’t even have anything gleeful to say about Reagan’s death.

If you have more bitterness and disgust and schadenfreude at the death of a mere spokesman than you held for Ronald Reagan, you have changed, and not for the better. Re-examine.

Irony overload! Are you trying to make my head explode?

That there’s funny I don’ care who y’are! :stuck_out_tongue:

I think he was ugly, rude and assisted in telling lies which resulted in the deaths of thousands. I will readily admit that’s no reason to die of cancer, though. As someone else said, having the lies exposed and held up to ridicule by honest journalists (that may be stretching it, I admit) would have sufficed.

You don’t want to go there.

But suffice it to say that that is trolling.

Bravo.

I believe there’s such a thing as common human decency. It goes against this to dance on graves and wish suffering on people. There’s a big difference between that and being glad somebody is gone. Whatever wrongs he committed, Tony Snow was a person, and by sheer virtue of possessing a membership in the human race, he deserved a better death.

When have I ever said anything hateful, or even approaching something like “I’m glad it was something as painful and undignified as colon cancer and I hope he suffered”?

There cannot be any reason for Dio’s post OTHER than trying to get a reaction out of people. Maybe you could do your job and moderate, or is that too much to expect? Oh wait, you’ve already answered that.

(sigh) We had such hopes for her. She made a funny, just last month! Ah, well…

There are 2 different topics.

  1. How much respect should be afforded to the dead?
  2. How happy should you be that someone died a horrible, undignified, painful death?

What’s been under discussion is #2, not #1.

I’ve honestly never been happy when anyone died, just relief in the cases where I thought the person deserved it. Delighting in the torture and agony of your fellow human, particularly when said person did nothing to rouse offense except speak to the press, is just scary sadism.

No matter how much you don’t like a person, there’s almost always something surprising about them.

And Beats Workin’–Great Band Name

After thinking on it for a few hours;

Still not sorry he’s dead.
Still not aggrieved by any suffering he might have gone through.
Still think he was an asshole who should be getting called on it more by the media today.

Have I really, literally taken pleasure in his death? Not really. I’m basically indifferent. My reaction was partially a hyperbolic reflex against the usual media whitewashing when any villain dies.

If I have any regrets about my post, it’s that I ratcheted it up so much that I didn’t leave myself any room to elevate for the real, true demons in that administration, like Cheney or Rummy or that pig, Karl Rove.

Snow is no loss and merits no sympathy or regrets but seething hatred…nah. I should save it for the bosses.

I didn’t say you said anything similar to Dio’s statement. However, given your style of posting, you’re one of the last people who should be lecturing others on failing to engage in dialogue. (And, in case you’re confused, drive-by sniping and partisan non-sequiturs don’t count as dialogue.)

Well, there could be one other reason: that’s his opinion of Tony Snow’s death, so he posted it in the thread on Tony Snow’s death. That it’s a shitty, nasty opinion is not my problem as a moderator. We don’t kick people off the boards merely for holding shitty, nasty opinions.

OK, a positive step. Are you still hoping that other FOX commentators suffer agonizing deaths soon?
