I think the version issue does pose a bit of a problem here. The OP asked for movies and TV shows, and most fans seem to think both the movie and TV versions of Hitchhiker’s were significantly flawed. The books are brilliant, of course, and I’ve not heard the radio version.

Americathon? I did not see it in a theater, but I saw it during its run on one of the pay cable channels (probably Showtime) which would have been a few months later. I’ve got a friend who’s a huge Firesign Theater fan; I keep forgetting to ask him if he’s heard of it.
