[Pit nitpick] “…defenestrating through a window” is redundant: exiting a window through a window. -3 for grammar error, -1.5 for lack of measured response. Total of 5.5/10. Better luck next time, man.
Get you’re grammer write, bitch.

Uh… I changed my name once. I used to be SPOOFE Bo Diddly. Now I’m just SPOOFE.
Are you telling us that you’ve only changed your socks once in your lifetime?
Wrong, Ed, it isn’t improper grammar. Translated, the sentence is “Exiting through a window, a window on the 27th floor.”
In this case, “defenestrating” is discussing about “exiting a window”, and “through a window etc.” is clarifying WHAT window.
So it’s merely awkward, not entirely incorrect. So he only loses 2.5 points for aesthetic reasons.
I think I may have it figured out Coldie,
‘Size 7’ is really his hat size.
Being unfamiliar with vagina’s, they must overwhelm poor Torgo so badly, that he resorts to the one practice that has not failed him thusfar in life…sticking his head right up the only orifice he finds familiar. It may not be his own, but any port in a storm…
Spoofe, that’s what they all abbreviate it to anyway, isn’t it?
I haven’t read the threads in question and don’t plan to, but wanted to comment that I find Torgo to be one of the funniest posters on the board. I still go back and re-read this one occasionally: http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=28605

Hey, speaking of size 7 poop-chutes, why don’t you give me a call sometime?
That’s a great comeback there, Torgo. You sure know how to weasel your way out of a bad situation. Do I have to remind you about that “Don’t piss off the moderators” rule again?
Next time, remember that foul language has its limits on these boards, especially outside of the Pit. If you don’t feel inclined to take note of that, your posting privileges will be revoked. Another veiled insult towards a moderator will have the same result. Do I make myself clear?

mouthbreather: in this case, yes, I read the reference in this thread before I scanned ahas thread in MPSIMS. It happens. And because Torgo seemed to be active in this thread, I asked him to explain himself here rather than there.
While we’re on the subject of Torgo,
What does "“My hovercraft is full of eels.” mean? "
AcidKid
It comes from a Monty Python sketch about a very bad translation phrasebook
Another phrase is “My buttocks are exploding with delight”

I haven’t read the thread in question and don’t plan to.
But I’m glad I read this one further, because it showed me, Bill dear, that poor Torgo’s not so much funny as possessed of a good memory. All the good bits turn out to be quotes from professional comedians.
Now, back to Aussie reality TV…
Andy’s out and Sara Marie’s still there? And Todd CUT HIS HAIR!! No Dreads?
How I wish I’d watched Popstars…
And now for a really good exit line: (thinks, recalls, recollects) ah yes - Sock it to me!

[sub]missed by THAT much[/sub]
Coldie, I think you missed a post. Two posts before you asked for your “And make it snappy” response, Torgo DID say:
Er, which foul worded comment? That’s like asking Mickey Mantle to explain a specific alcoholic blackout. In any case I’ll try contain my obscenities to the Pit, where they flourish like farts in a Greek restaurant.
Which I took as admission of fault. However, I imagine you’re looking for the specific words of “I’m sorry” or somesuch. In any event, I’m just pointing something out that you MAY have missed.

Is this an “official” rule? Is an insult in the Pit toward a moderator going to be treated differently than an insult toward a regular member?
Just use common sense and don’t poke at the moderators. That’s all. They don’t like it and don’t have to take it. Nothing more nothing less. It isn’t quantum theory.

Well, let me put it this way. If you posted something questionable, and a moderator asked you for an explanation, do you think it would be a wise idea to include a veiled insult towards that moderator in your explanation? Or would you figure that that would only get you in bigger trouble?
coldfire, youre acting like a bit of a jerk. you bust torgo for cursing outside of the pit, yet you cursed out handy but good in the “new domain needed” thread. pretty lame. and as to your contention that torgo threatened you, oh, come on! how ridiculous is that? is it an insult, why, yes it is. A threat? hardly. Get over yourself, stop acting like being a moderator is some kind of high and lonely destiny, and please stop underlining your muscle- flexing reprimands. they come off as puerile as hell.

No, pretty accurate, as handy had just broken one of the boards’ most fundamental rules: don’t post links to porn sites. And for what it’s worth: the fact that there are rules to what language a poster should use in what forum doesn’t mean a moderator can’t yell at an idiot.
and as to your contention that torgo threatened you, oh, come on! how ridiculous is that?
That’s pretty ridiculous indeed. If you’d open your eyes and read what I posted on this matter so far, you’d learn that I never stated Torgo “threatened me”.
is it an insult, why, yes it is. A threat? hardly.
I’m glad we feel the same.

All in a days work. I’m glad you like our service.
High and lonely destiny? Puh-leeze. Re-read your own post to get an idea of the sort of shit a moderator has to put up with from time to time. High and lonely my ass.
sorry, coldfire. my mind turned the word that followed ‘veiled’ into ‘threat.’ my apologies.
as to your incredibily ridiculous rationale for blithely breaking the very rules you see fit to bring up because someone else has broken a rule, well, ‘pretty lame’ sums it up pretty good.
i still think youre being a bit of a jerk.

I gotta say, man, that’s pretty weak right there. Dressing down an idiot is one thing, but applying a double standard in posting etiquette is not cool.
Seems to me what Coldy is trying to say is that it’s A-OK to insult him normally, just not when he’s acting in his role as moderator as it shows disrespect for the rules.
Sorry if I’m putting words in anyone’s mouth, of course.
Can’t everyone just get along?
I just saw the Barbara Stanwyck post and cracked up. I’m not getting the disdain here.

Ok, that’s fair enough.
