I know the area although never been to that particular restauant. There’s an underground parking lot right next door. The Metro Toronto Convention Centre is across the street (IIRC $5 parking on weekends underground next to the CBC building).
So do these meets usually have an itinerary? Or is the meet going to be held completely in the restuarant?
You know, if the search functions here were working properly I might have stumbled upon this thread sooner. grumble grumble. As it is, just yesterday I committed to something else on the 11th. Ah well. Plus, the Eonwe-mobile has been acting a little odd lately, so it’s probably best to keep the 1,000 mile weekend jaunts to a minimum.
Hello to everyone I won’t get to meet or see again. And, here’s to thinking about another fest sometime when it’s warm.
I second the request for pictures from the last fest.
Also, Booker57, if you’re having money issues I could mail you the Canadian dollar bill you gave me from this summer. I keep it in my wallet and wow all the ladies with it (unfortunately it doesn’t seem to do much for wooing the ladies).
I don’t know it I can make it. My MIL is planning a dinner for the next Saturday, and I don’t know if I can take two Saturdays in a row off. I’ll keep you posted.
There’s a manual? We’re supposed to write a manual?
[sub]whisper whisper[/sub] ahem
We would be perfectly willing to advise the beautiful Maastricht on hosting a dopefest [sub]if, afterwards, we can remember what we did[/sub].
Matt, I’d be happy to do something else. I haven’t been to a museum lately either. Perhaps on Saturday afternoon before we meet at the restaurant? What time do you think you’d be arriving?
It would depend entirely on what we were planning to do. I need another subway excursion (north Yonge line and a bit more detailed view of Danforth and Scarborough); and for museums, I’m open to suggestions.
Eats, would I be able to enjoy your hospitality once more?
I’d be happy to do another Saturday-afternoon (or even Sunday) Subway Saunter. I just thought you’d had your fill of T.O.'s subway, is all.
Museums… how about the Museum of Television? I think they’re open on the weekend. Royal Ontario Museum, Bata Shoe Museum, Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Art, the Powerplant, and of course the Art Gallery of Ontario (right next to the Tabletop).
The Modigliani exhibit is great (a touch pricey) but when I was at the AGO a few weeks ago, I found it quite messy. Areas were closed for renovation, and the area where they usually have the neat modern art stuff was really sub-par. Overall, if not for Modigliani, it would have been a downright unpleasant experience.
Then again, that was a few weeks ago. Perhaps they are done with all the strange stuff they were doing.
Oh, the ROM is being renovated too. They are remaining open although some of the fun things - like the bat cave - are closed. They currently have some exhibit going on about pearls.

Pearls, Chinese textiles, the expansion, tallgrass prarie, Greek and Etruscan. When I was there a year ago, we saw Egyptian, medieval armour, and birds, plus the dinosaurs.

The big-name exhibit is Modigliani. There are their ongoing exhibits (Canadiana, etc), but this one looks interesting: Mark Lombardi
Ugh. Unfortunately they mean “charted” quite literally. Each is very interesting if you spend a lot of time with each one, but I found in a gallery context I actually found it hard on the eyes. They are literally charts of fine lines. If you’re in the gallery to see Modigliani, stop by, but I wouldn’t make a special trip.
The AGO has a bad habit of hanging works so that you often see your own reflection in the glass of the frame interfere with the painting/photo/drawing you are trying to see (I was livid when I went to see the Cindy Sherman exhibit because many of her photos are really dark and I mostly got to see myself as if looking at black glass.) I started to go through the Lombardi exhibit and gave up because it was just not worth the headcahe to squint at the fine lines through my reflection.
Matt I DO have your shampoo still. As well as some of my mom’s Oil of Olay body wash in case you’re feeling wrinkey.
Well, hey, if there is something happening during the day, myself, MrsFantsyPants, and BabyFantsyPants might join in. Our evenings are booked solid by the teething fairy though.
