Trolls R Us redux [Now the argument clinic]

Ummmm. No. Talking to the dude whining that he can’t have a “reasonable discussion” . Sorry for the confusion.

Huh. I don’t remember clashing with you before, much less anything “abrasive”. Care to share more to help me fix myself?

This is going well.

JFC he’s not talking about you.

Apologies, then! My mistake.

A little hypersensitive, are we? I saw no ambiguity at all. When someone refers to an “abrasive shithead” with @damuriajashi anywhere in the vicinity, there ought to be no doubt whom it’s referring to.

Indeed, you are correct sir.

No worries. I should have been clearer about the exact identity of the abrasive shithead. In my experience, you are neither.

Are you trying to say that I’m hypersensitive?

Not my reading at all.

I have never thought that of you either.

Thank you all for the kind words, and apologies for my own misreading.

Good thing no one is saying that, then.

If DA is taking back his claim that my preference for this particular reduction of test score requirements is racist, then I’d be pleased. But he hasn’t done that, as far as I can tell.

As in the space inside his skull?

Given there are other options for increasing diversity that wouldn’t advantage white students over Asian ones, yeah, this particular plan to lower requirements is racist.

Not all racism is ‘I hate ____ people’.

Raising test scores would advantage Asians over everyone else. Would that be racist? Does that mean that the test score requirements MUST REMAIN THE SAME and any change at all is racist? Somehow, that school found the only perfect, magical non-racist test score requirement number?

If so, that’s just ludicrous and laughable. If not, then my position is not racist.

So the school board wants to increase the number of underrepresented minorities in the school. One way to do this would reduce the number of white students, and also reduce the number of Asian students to a small extent, while another option would increase the number of white students even more than the minorities they intended to help, all at the very large expense of Asian students. And surprise surprise, the mostly white school board, who have to answer to majority white voters, pick the second option. In fact, they don’t even consider the first.

You don’t see any racism here? Because I do.

I see racism in the motives of many of those in favor, some of whom are supporting this policy to help their white kids (at the expense of black, brown, and Asian kids). I also see racism (lesser, but still real, IMO) in the motives of many of those against, some of whom are opposing this policy to help their Asian kids (at the expense of black and brown kids). I support this policy to help black and brown kids, and an unfortunate side effect is that it also benefits some white kids at the expense of some Asian kids. I’d be more in favor of other policies that helped black and brown kids but not white kids. In the choice between this new policy and the old one, I prefer the new one, even though it’s flawed. Other policies might be even better, but this is still an improvement on the prior policy, since black and brown kids are so massively underrepresented, while Asian kids are not (in fact, they’ll probably still be very overrepresented).

Asian kids are only over-represented if you believe they are getting some kind of unfair advantage. Otherwise they are correctly represented because they are the ones doing best academically, and that is who the school is intended to serve. Changing the admissions policy to reduce their numbers is discriminating against a group because of their race.

Anyway, I’m not accusing you of having racist motives, just of supporting a racist policy.

Isn’t there a whole thread in which you can talk about school admissions policies all you want? That’s not, I don’t think, the point of this thread.
