Nah. I had no problem with Shodan, never paid attention to him, couldn’t have told you much about him. The subject of his banning came up recently and I dug up some of his old posts. Holy shit did that guy get a long leash. He even openly admitted to trolling. He racked up countless warnings. I’m shocked he wasn’t banned sooner.

If you mean the “How reprehensible…?” thread, it contains a lot of evidence that your opinion is that the late Shodan’s banning was unfair. Which we already knew, tbh.
But as I said, plenty of people have opinions on that subject that differ from yours, as Spice_Weasel has illustrated.
Well, if your bias has led you to form an ill-judged opinion on the subject, then maybe the “official action” you complain of was perfectly reasonable, and all your whining about it is off the mark.

Tbf, given the years of overt trolling Shodan was guilty of, it was a bit odd that the particular straw he got banned for was the one that broke the camel’s back. But that doesn’t mean that he wasn’t a toxic asshole who got away with a ridiculous amount of trolling before the banhammer eventually fell.
Shodan got banned before I was a Mod so not sure of any details. But whatever post was the trigger for him getting banned, was not of course the reason he got banned. I get you didn’t say otherwise, just clarifying for all
Past history, warnings, suspensions all add up to make a post that would normally be just a warning, a suspension or even it is time to Ban.
Past history plays a big part in making decisions for mods. I think that is true on most message boards, but not sure.
As to octopus, he follows the board’s rules. Has no warnings I know of and saves his attacking posters for the Pit where it belongs (if it belongs anywhere). I don’t agree with his opinions on almost anything but that doesn’t = trolling. I do think he is wrong more often than not, but Mods are suppose to ignore that and for good reason.

IMHO he also does like to pile up his hate speech (not just against minorities but against women too) also with tons of equivocations and ignorance like (as one example) he did in a drive by in the CRT tread. It is also implied by his constant pap when willfully lying about BLM protesters that riot are not arrested and prosecuted just to claim that the authorities in blue states specially are looking the other way and supporting the rioters.
