Actually, it’s because I tend to keep the racists and the like on ignore. Uncovering their posts only occasionally to see if there’s something I can report. That is, my aim with racists is to see them cut out like a cancerous tumor. Ditto with misogynists, COVID deniers, etc., etc. Those people are hopeless. You can’t fight willful ignorance, you can only expose it for ridicule.
ILMVI, on the other hand, is someone I wouldn’t have had on ignore, but for their acronym crusade, and the fact that moderator action was unlikely as a source of corrective action.
I post in here (I mean this particular thread) about easy targets, I suppose, but to the extent I would take the trouble to actually pit someone in a stand-alone thread, I’d say it’s more like an airing of grievances with a hope towards some level of improvement.

As I said in the thread itself, I’d had him on ignore for some time. But it wasn’t enough, because he’d still derail threads with his crusade. That’s the thing. Ignore only works if everyone else ignores the problem poster as well. Short of a board-wide shunning of ILMVI (which I would not endorse) direct an open confrontation seemed the best option.
I will do none of those things because I don’t feel I have acted out of bounds. Moreover, I don’t see where you have standing to argue on his behalf, dragging this matter out even further.
