Trolls R Us redux [Now the argument clinic]

So, from your post I should take away: guilt by association? Inability to take a step back and see things from a different perspective? Unwillingness to provide a substantive answer, instead throwing mud? Or the Trifecta?

I"m sorry, who is speaking again? It’s like the two of you share the same notebook of illogical crap.

Show me on this doll where the mean Liberal touched you.

None of the above - I just think it’s funny and ironic that you and Octopus whine about the mean scary hive mind in perfect unison.

One difference that could be noticed, if you wanted to pay attention: I haven’t complained about ill-treatment for myself, because (possibly up until now) I haven’t suffered from it.

I observe that my crime in this thread appears to be that I don’t think that this thread is a faultless gem in the area of reporting and controlling troll activity, that this thread has flaws built in that may not be beneficial to the SDMB in the long run.

I also think that some people in this thread do what they do because they get a kick out of it more than because they care all that much about getting rid of trolls. Maybe that doesn’t matter. Anyway, as I’m sure you’re all saying to yourselves, if it’s so bad in this thread why don’t I just keep away from it, so that’s what I’m going to do.

Who the fuck said you committed a crime in this thread? What the fuck are you whining about?

It’s a decades long and multiple site game for these mentally damaged ‘souls.’

Mayo sauce?

Have you no shame?!?

Sorry, that was shameful.

Umm, if you add; curry, lemon zest, and lemon juice to mayonnaise it does stop being mayonnaise by most people’s definition.
I mean would you call tartar sauce mayo (with stuff in it)?

What you did was make a bad argument, saying that this thread was some “cool kids table” when it very much isn’t. I refuted said argument. We could have left it at that, but then you felt the need to accuse me of impropriety. No refutation of anything I actually said, just ad hominem.

So, yeah. If you don’t like this thread, you can avoid it. But obviously coming in and saying that everyone in said thread is acting like popular bullies in high school is going to ruffle some feathers.

You even mention another thread where this one is being discussed. Why not post your criticisms there?

This thread is no “cool kids table”.

My posting here is my cite.

If this were true, every thriving online community would have a space like this. I’m not aware of any thriving, growing community that has a place where they call out trolls in their own community publicly. I know of only 3 places where this happens. All of them are either declining, dying or stagnant in membership.

I could be convinced that this is a coincidence if people could point out where and how this works in other growing communities, but since this is off-topic for this thread, it would need to be in another thread.

Besides matching IP addresses or a few solid identifiers (which would be a tiny minority of the trolling cases I was talking about), that you think this is troubling.

Ah, I see.
I’d been thinking more along the lines of heating up a whole bunch of it into a more liquidy state and trying to pass that off as sauce.
TIL.

I love mayo, I even use it in hot food, but hot liquified mayo on its own?

How many thriving online communities of 20+ years can you name?

Other online communities don’t need a pit because you can call a troll a troll, a liar a liar, and a racist a racist anywhere, and so then you don’t need to have a bunch of hand-wringing over whether, say, rape denial and misogyny are among the things that are okay in said pit.

That seems to me to be an extremely misguided observation. I see no “cool kids table” here at the SDMB. I do see a “dipshits and douchebags table”, and it’s really small, and with rare exceptions most of its occupants tend to get thrown out of school and never seen again.

Speaking only for myself, I tend not to join in pile-ons and I think most here don’t actually make a habit of it. When apparent pile-ons occur, they’re usually well deserved, and yes, I do join in if and when I have a particular beef against a poster who has mightily pissed me off. And needless to say, most of us are intelligent enough to distinguish between “pissed me off” and “disagreed with me”. The evidence that pittings are well deserved is that there’s a pretty high correlation between posters who have been pitted and posters who are no longer with us, except perhaps as reincarnated footwear.

You’re both wrong. Using mayo as a base for a tangy or spicy seafood sauce is an old culinary tradition. One of the best sauces to have with lobster cakes or crab cakes, for example, is chipotle mayo, which is not the same as the mayo sauce recipe here, but the same general idea of tarting up a mayo base to make it a great seafood accompaniment. :yum:

Nope, speaking for me too.
