They should read some history. That’s how human beings work. It’s not about right or wrong (and for the record, killing people because they are wealthy is morally wrong and I strongly oppose it) – it’s that it’s inevitable when exploitation and inequality rise to a certain level. The world would be a better place if those exploiters and manipulators recognized this truth about human history, and started to support progressive policies because they don’t want this to happen again.
I put it this way because appealing to their sense of decency or humanity has no chance of success. But maybe appealing to their sense of self-preservation and fear could work.
Yes, I think the implication, even if hyperbolic, that fear and lethal force is a remedy for what ails society is an extreme position and should not be advocated.
There was an implication that “fear” could be this remedy, but no implication that lethal force would be this remedy. Violent revolution by the masses rarely, if ever, works out well for anyone (except the new power structure). But it’s inevitable when exploitation and inequality reach a certain level.
Please read my post again, and tell me specifically what words/phrases you disagree with or think are “extreme”.
…or less bullshit knee-jerk skepticism of strident language (or perhaps just my strident language), and less benefit of the doubt provided to lying trolls like DemonTree. Maybe more reading comprehension too.
Not trying to gotcha: is there a qualifier in there (“except for when the fear and lethal force is part of the government”) that I should be assuming? Or are you opposed to the use of fear and lethal force as part of policing and criminal justice and military protocol? Or is it something else?
Isn’t the quote: “Those who make peaceful evolution impossible, make violent revolution inevitable (or words to that effect)” what we’re talking about here? I thought it was pretty self-evident.
Because you still put in the bullshit that I was implying lethal force was a remedy (as opposed to a sad inevitability if exploitation and unfairness continue to rise).
Come on – you know this history, don’t you? Is it really a mystery what I was getting at?
I think we’re talking about lethal remedies for the billionaire “problem”. If we’re now switching gears and talking about an authoritarian government, then it’s a different problem and I believe it requires a different solution. I’m hardly a pacifist, if that’s what you’re asking.
What the fuck? Is there a reason this revolution conversation needs to happen in the trolls thread versus wherever you started it? We were just ending the endless Max/rape tangent.
I certainly do. I know what it means to live under a post revolutionary authoritarian state.
Because you’re still trying to bullshit your way out of the fact that you did exactly that: ‘I’m not saying that some unfortunate incident might befall your dog if I find shit on my lawn again, Mrs. Travers…but you know the tragic history of the Jones’ poodle…’
