I followed the announcer’s suggestion to “log into HBO.com to see tonight’s post mortem,” and then spent about 15 (increasingly annoyed and ultimately fruitless) minutes searching for it. Not sure if it’s been posted since then.
For a moment I considered sending an angry email to HBO for wasting my (obviously precious) time, but decided that I’d just sound like a crank and nobody would read it anyway.
I, too, was shocked that they introduced Hunter so early in the series, but I guess they really want to get some bang-for-the buck out of the Stackhouse genealogy. They alluded to it a bit more when they showed the article about Earl Stackhouse being a hero and saving someone due to his “sixth sense”. They need to just come out with it already and get on with it.
Franklin’s scene was awesome, Russell was awesome. Can’t wait for the battle between he and Eric.
I feel like I missed something about Sophie-Ann. She’s still alive, just holed up at Russell’s right?
I figured it’s pretty much the same as with Eric “Northman”. In his human life Eric was from a noble or royal* Swedish family, but in those days I don’t think anyone had surnames as such. Important families would have names attached to them, but that’s not quite the same thing as a surname. By contrast, by the time Bill Compton was made, the use of last names, and essesntially modern English was already well established.
Godric does seem to have been something of an anomaly in this regard, apparently having made no effort to modernize his name.
I’m starting to think Jason is going to turn into a renegade/vigilante. I get the feeling Andy might have to take him off the force and he’ll start distributing ‘justice’ as he sees fit. Some people will be okay with it, some won’t. And what will happen when there’s collateral damage?
Andy had vials of V in his desk drawer. Wiki said they were his. I figured they came from Hot Shots guy that Jason tied to the tree. Have we seen Andy with V before?
ETA, Wiki also says “Russell had his [Talbot’s] remains placed in a glass jar which he now takes with him wherever he goes.” Which has been all of one place now, I don’t think that counts as taking him ‘wherever he goes.’
Who was Earl Stackhouse- Sookie’s father? (I thought his name on the chart was Corbett.)
As are Jack Nicholson and Bill Cosby. Strangely I can imagine either of them doing the news scene from last night (except that Cosby would have taken much longer and had a drawn out story about an old guy in Philadelphia who kept moss in his shoes).
Probably a patronymic like Eric Thorwaldson (no idea what his father’s name was). Now that he has the crown perhaps he’ll change the name to honor his father.
Now that Russell has gone rogue (or is it “gone Palin” by now?) I wonder if Sophie Anne is free to go.
And I’m guessing Sarah Newlin got the kind of sex Talbot was only dreaming about that night after Steve saw that broadcast. His stock would have just gone up about $800 per share in the American public’s view.
The official HBO synopsis will be up sometime today. In no particular order until then (and others can fill in what I miss):
Russell flies back to his mansion to find Talbot dead (which he already knew) and to of course go ballistic in his mourning.
Bill and Sookie have sex in the shower then discuss their future together (a-gain) while disposing of some dead naked guys/werewolves at his house (the ones he and Jessica killed last week).
Crystal’s cousin and betrothed husband arrives at Jason’s place to “rescue” her, unaware she left of her own volition. Jason walks in and Crystal accuses him (to her cousin-fiance) of abducting and raping her and holding her for ransom, but then clubs him on the head when he confronts Jason and the two of them together hogtie him and leave him in a field where Jason disguises his voice and calls the sheriff to come get him. When the deputy (Kevin- he’s been on the show before) goes to check out the complaint he’s ambushed (offscreen) and beaten nearly to death, which makes Jason tell Andy that it was the folks from Hotshot responsible and that they’re dealing V (which he tells Andy is a hunch). Andy opens his drawer once Jason leaves to reveal several vials of V, not yet explained, and implies he’s going to lead a raid on Hotshot.
Sam’s kid brother Tommy is being a trashy little prick keeping up Arlene and Terry with a wild out of control sex party with some girl he picked up (the evening’s main source of gratuitous nudity, though the shower showed Sookie’s boobs and more boobs await). Tommy tones down the noise but accuses Sam of being a prude and a pussy.
Later at Merlotte’s Tommy steals Arlene’s tips (or is accused of doing so- you don’t see him do it but it’s implied he did) which causes a showdown between him and Arlene. Both accuse Sam of being a pussy (her for his brother and him for his waitresses). Arlene is worked up and goes to cry and tells the new waitress Holly that her baby isn’t Terry’s and that she doesn’t want it. Holly suggests she get an abortion but Arlene says she has moral problems with that and won’t consider it, to which Holly says “There are other ways” (or something like that).
Jessica greets Hoyt and his new (tiny) girlfriend who’s a chatterbox and nice to Jessica, though Jessica shows her fangs and is openly hostile to her. When the girlfriend goes to the bathroom she takes Hoyt to task for coming in on her shift (since obviously he could come in on any daytime and not see her or on her off-nights) and Hoyt admits he can’t stand his ‘girlfriend’ and wants Jessica back.
Crystal’s dad comes into Merlotte’s because he knows- correctly- Crystal is there with Jason. When Sam tries to stop him he calls him a pussy and he and Sam get into a fight, which is to say Sam beats and kicks the shit out of him and he’s taken away in an ambulance. Crystal insists on going with him even though Jason tries to stop her and Jason’s left standing outside at Merlotte’s.
Franklin appears and traps Tara outside Merlotte’s, telling her how much he loves her and how much she hurt him. Tara stands her ground and basically tells him if he’s going to kill her just get it over with because she’d rather die than be with him and he starts to oblige her when Jason points a shotgun and tells him to leave her alone. Franklin reminds Jason that shotguns don’t work on vampires to which Jason responds by pulling the trigger and Franklin breaks into a gooey mess- he used one of the pointed stake shells he got from the Fellowship of the Sun.
Jesus takes Lafayette’s mom back to the home (she tries to lift one of his rings and uses a lot of his makeup but otherwise not a lot happens there).
Eric has fled to Fangtasia after killing Talbot trying to think of somewhere to hide and settles on the home of a human waitress, but the question’s moot since Nan arrives and questions him in depth about what’s going on between him and Russell and what happened to the Magister. Eric tells everything to her and to the Authority (who are watching on video conference- you only see the back of their heads [about three of them])- it’s unclear whether he tells about killing Talbot but he does tell about wanting to kill Russell and why. Russell is outside with Talbot’s remains in a crystal decanter, but can’t enter because Nan’s guards have the place sealed; she leaves to go testify on the Vampire Rights Act clearly believing Eric’s tale is horse shit and Eric and Pam sleep at Fangtasia.
The following evening Nan returns with the Authority’s verdict, which is basically they disavow any knowledge of anything Eric has said but if he wants to kill Russell they’ll be happy, so long as they’re not involved and so long as he understands they’ll disavow any knowledge of it.
Nan, who has told Eric that she has only fed on True Blood since it was released, leaves in her limo to catch a plane to Portland to testify for the Vampire Rights Act, which leads directly to the Not Safe For Worklast few minutes.
Obviously the serial killer, and I did remember the dream sequence I just had no idea who Rene was. Having a name doesn’t necessarily make me remember why he was so evil, or what his actions in previous seasons were(especially for a minor character). After reading the others comments about his death in the first season, I do remember who he is. I just did not think she would be pregnant still from season 1, it didn’t occur to me. I thought I remembered Arlene participating in the orgies brought on by MaryAnne, and had assumed she was pregnant from that. Which was why I was confused about this mysterious man who was so evil, without an explanation as to why.
One of the best episodes so far. And the season is pretty solid too. Russel is a great villain.
My problem with this series is the subplots: they are pretty lame: I don`t care about Lafayette, Tara, the weredogs, etc.
But the thing that disturbs me the most is, why hasn’t the entire human race been converted into vampires?
They can feed from humans without converting or killing them, and in fact converting them is always a conscious choice on the vampire’s part. They’d never want to get rid of all humans for the same reasons hunters wouldn’t want to kill all the game in a forest.
What I don’t understand about Arlene’s baby daddy is that you’d think Terry would be able to do the math as well.
Sampiro, but what about true blood?
First, vampires don’t need to feed from humans anymore.
And second, I would surely like to be converted as would most of the population: vampires are a minority and we have all the F22s. Do the math
I have been assuming that Arlene has been lying about the due date. I mean, it’ll come out in the end (ha) but maybe she’s hoping she can think up a good story before it becomes necessary, or the demon spawn baby will summon its hellish minions and they’ll come and take care of it for her or something to that effect.
