Make that two.
I read the article. I actually agree with the first part of it. I want Trump out of office, I want his hordes of fans to come to their senses and abandon him, I want the country to survive his influence and to come out stronger.
But I don’t want to give in to anger. Anger leads to hate; hate leads to suffering.
Rachel Maddow tonight led off with sympathetic sentiments (she has to) and gave an analogy about how if your friend kept smoking despite all warnings, and then got lung cancer, you’d do all you could for them. Definitely true.
But the analogy breaks down because in this case the friend just didn’t smoke, he led an effort to increase smoking, lied about the impact, and also tried to hook kids.
That mutha deserves to die.
I’m gonna go on the assumption you meant, “DON’T want Trump to escape justice but I’m also hesitant about the political optics. . .”
I’m of a mind that he is a problem that needs to be addressed head-on. If we avoid talking about the Trump problem, for any reason, when he’s gone, then we’re enabling the next Trump.
If we throw all his kids in jail, that would solve the problem.
I think you know what I meant. . .
Pretty sure most of them deserve it, though.
As always, my heart is with everyone affected by this global pandemic.
Hah. She claims to have a heart.
Trump reportedly has gotten Remdesivir and is not requiring any supplemental oxygen which is a good sign. Just need to wait and see for now.
On the subject of wishing ill on others:
In my life I’ve never wished for others to get sick, or hurt, let alone die (aside from theatres of war, obv). I don’t get pleasure from watching suffering, no matter who it is.
But if there were ever an exception, it would be this. Hundreds of thousands in the US have died (and millions more sick) because of Trump’s callous disregard for human life and willful ignorance. And who knows what the long term effect of the US being a reservoir for the disease will be…it’s way too soon to think we will eradicate this thing.
So yeah, I hope he gets a severe case and it somehow causes him to have the first epiphany of his life, followed by the first apology he’s ever given.

The other thing that imbues this with a strong Schadenfreude is that this is an individual who has never in his life been held accountable for anything, who has never suffered the consequences of any of his callousness, narcissism, and general malignancy. Most of his life he was protected by daddy’s money and empire, by paternal favoritism, and by the gang of sycophantic yes-men he always surrounded himself with. In public life, he’s been subject to a lot more criticism, but today’s completely unprincipled Republicans have circled their wagons to protect him for their own self-serving reasons, so once again, he gets away with everything and is accountable for nothing.
Until now. Now, one might say, Nature has done what Man could not: finally brought him the consequences of his callous indifference and willful ignorance. I genuinely don’t wish him ill but I do hope it gives him a perspective on this disease that he’s been so lacking. I doubt he’ll ever have an epiphany because he’s too stupid, or that he’ll ever apologize, because he’s too narcissistic and deluded. But this personal scare might be enough to change his approach to managing COVID policy over the next few months, until the voters kick his ass to the curb once and for all.

Gosh, it is unbelievable how people are reframing this: I have read that “the US is a country built on risk, which is why we need to support a President who puts his own health at risk” (what about others’ health?).
Also, the fact that he has got the virus only now, is a sign of strength, because “he has been working for 20 hours per day, meeting with thousands of people and dealing with unprecedented challenges. He deserves our gratitude and blessing for not putting his own health above his duties.”
And the most ridiculous assertion of them all: “And despite his critics, those who work with President Trump know that he follows the science and the advice of doctors, he social distances and wears a mask whenever appropriate. President Trump deserves our thanks, support, and blessings.”
Those people are truly lost.

Priceless! Thank you.
These events have me re-thinking my atheism.
Trump on whether someone who gets sick is fit to be president.
Spoiler: he thinks it means you can’t handle the job.
OBAMA!
Or Hillary.
As usual.
Ruth’s revenge. That’ll teach you to call her dying wish a hoax.

Who would of thought that 2020 might turn out to be the best year ever?
Honest to God while that is a pretty bad scenario, IMHO it would still be a very mild win for this country. I’m not a fan, but I’ll take a somewhat sane plutocrat like Romney over an unstable, irrational plutocrat any day of the week.
The way I see it, Trump took 6 weeks of flight school and only knows how to crash the tower or flee the country. Romney is the pilot with a full load of bombs and a hundred combat missions under his belt.
There are no moderate Republicans, I don’t want to see a competent Republican politician in office. I’d rather see Trump hit the tower.

Awesome analogy — seriously. I’m surprised I hadn’t heard it before now.
