“sorry sir, I meant ‘makes double plus ungood’”
My favorite tweet so far: Where’s Al Haig? lol
The lawbreaking will continue for sure. Barr and McConnell have made it safe for them to play out their worse impulses in public. The “normal” Republican voters (what’s left of them) will vote for whoever’s an R, and would probably be relieved to have someone other than Trump on the ballot. It’s the right wing crazies, the Proud Boy types I’m thinking of - are they Pence fans also? I thought their allegiance was pretty much specifically to Trump, as he’s the one who publicly lavishes praise on them. Even McConnell types will (usually) say the safe thing and distance themselves from too much overt racism. Trump eggs them on.
I don’t wish death on him - add me to the “rather see him in prison” group, although I doubt that will happen. But I would love to have him on a ventilator just to shut him TF up for a bit.
I’d just like to say that in spite of my feelings towards Trump, this is sad news. The Covid virus is a nasty thing, that I wouldn’t wish on anyone, and so I hope he and those he has come in contact with have as mild symptoms and make a full and speedy recovery.

Unfortunately I am not as forgiving and magnanimous as I would like to be, so I can’t actually say that. Fuck him I hope he as a full blown case that lingers on through the election and makes him regret being alive.
My thoughts exactly.
I think the concern is that those types of Republicans who have been turned against Trump would come back if the nominee becomes Pence, Romney, or some other mainstream Republican.
ETA and whether that will offset any losses of hard core MAGA crazies who hate them.
Not to pick on you in particular, because a lot of people has said similar things… but I’m really perplexed by this attitude. It is absolutely good news.
I don’t believe in punishment solely for the purpose of retribution, so I have no desire for Trump to suffer just for the sake of seeing him suffer. But he has done immense harm, and this country needs him gone. Anything that happens to make it more certain that he cannot cause more harm is good news. I think the best possible outcome for the country and for the world is that he remains seriously ill until January - but remains in office and on the ticket. So that’s what I’m hoping for. Whether or not Trump suffers or (later dies) in that process is of absolutely no significance, it’s simply not an important consideration compared to the lives of millions (and probably billions) that he could harm if remains a factor in U.S. and global politics.
“Normal” Republicans who are smart enough will associate any other Republican candidate with Trump enablers and not vote for them.
Please scroll down a little bit and read the rest of my post.
Yes. Compos enough to fend off a 25th Amendment challenge until Election Day. After that, I just hope the virus leaves enough of his sorry ass in functioning condition to give testimony to SDNY and Attorney General Elizabeth Fucking Warren (we can dream, right).
Oops… pseudo-ninjaed by the very post I was replying to. Sorry, scanning through posts too quickly this morning!
Unless, of course, he wins. Then if he dies, we’re stuck with four (or eight) years of Pence.
If Trump is unable to attend the next debate, I see no reason that the debate needs to be canceled.
I absolutely don’t either. I think this is a sympathy ploy- look at the patriotism upwelling for Boris Johnson. Trump is going for the same thing! Trump is going to come out and say, “look! it’s not that bad! We’ve overestimated this virus yet again!”
On a separate note, this is the most interesting/fascinating prediction of Trump’s COVID positive news: about 90 minutes before Trump’s tweet last night!
He sees a surprising military plane show up “decloaked” and then a little later another on the West coast, but with an attempt to show strength and preparedness. Absolutely spot on analysis. Truly fascinating!
That’s not an “unless” - no scenario reduces the probability of a Republican win to zero, but my claim that this scenario implies the lowest probability of a Republican win. Do you disagree?
Maybe. As I said back in post 89, I suspect that there are a lot of people who like what they understand to be Republican policies but are disgusted by Trump. They might actually be more comfortable checking “Trump” on the ballot if they believe he’ll soon be replaced by Pence.
But that’s why I said I think the best scenario is Trump quite ill but hanging on - in office and on the ticket. If he dies quickly or is incapacitated quickly and removed from the ticket, then we have certainty of a less nauseating Republican candidate.
COVID has Donald Trump. First time I’ve ever felt sorry for a disease.
