My sentiments exactly. I want the fucker to be a long-hauler, living a couple more decades in a broken body. (And preferably in a prison cell to boot.) He deserves the worst that this virus can give him, after all the pain and death he’s brought to others.
Oh, and I hope he’s too incapacitated between now and the time the votes are counted to issue the orders for any of the assorted election interference plans he’s been generating. But that’s less about him than about preserving our democracy.
This is what I’m thinking. Obviously, Trump is concerned about optics and always wants to portray himself as the toughest guy in the room. Succumbing to a multi day visit to the hospital, for a nothing virus, with only 1 month to the election is something that doesn’t support that image. However, today he was able to walk to Marine 1 from the White House unassisted. He was able to walk from Marine 1 into the hospital unassisted. And he gave a brief speech of thanks while appearing relatively strong and capable. I think the only reason he did that at this time is because he’s rapidly losing the ability to do so. Better to walk in than be wheeled in.
I don’t wish him ill, but all signs point to a pretty horrible week for him.

I would not accept anything coming from the White House as accurate unless it was heavily verified as true by reliable sources.
Here’s another take.
I think the ideal scenario politically, ( and a totally awesome fantasy) would be:
He recovers quickly and gets back on the campaign trail. There are enough Republican senators deathly ill or dead that the Supreme Court confirmation is derailed. Joe gets to take off the gloves again. The negative ads go back up. Trump hits the campaign trail and rally circuit hard. He’s still sort of sick and it shows. His doctors try to help by giving him steroids and Adderall. This gives him more energy but it also makes him angry.
He debates Joe again. The debate makes the first one look like the Lincoln-Douglas debates. He’s insane. He’s angry and incoherent and does not utter one comprehensible sentence. He also looks like he’s about to drop dead.
The election happens, with Trump still alive and but everyone but his most ardent supporters realize he’s now completely unfit. The Republican leadership tries to get him to drop out, and a bunch of them cut him loose. But he refuses to step aside.
The election happens. Biden’s wins historically, taking AZ, ME, CO, MI, PA, OH, NC, SC, GA, FL and TX, plus any states that are remotely a toss-up that I might have missed.
Then Trump relapses right after the election and dies. I know this is where I would break ranks with a lot of you. I really do want Trump to escape justice but I’m also hesitant about the political optics and precedent of prosecuting a former President and our new Congress will have better things to do.
We will need to prosecute Barr, though…because the details of the crimes and cover-ups should be made public, also I really need to see his fat ass in a jumpsuit.
I got caught up in that fantasy for a few minutes…
It also occurred to me that the timing of this health crisis is awfully convenient for Melania - a former aide and friend who had a falling out with FLOTUS wrote a book that comes out Tuesday. She was on the TV circuit last night, with secret recordings of Melania being a huge bitch. This happened a few hours before the COVID announcement.
Now that story is history not just because it was outshouted by the big story, but because it’s unseemly to run a negative story about Melania under the circumstances. Plus it makes Melania’s ex-friend look like a bitch for releasing the book at this time.

Breaking news on MSNBC: Kellyanne Conway is now reporting that she is positive for COVID. Speculation is that the announcement of the nomination of Barrett to the Supreme Court is the event where many of the people now testing positive were infected.

I’m gonna go on the assumption you meant, “DON’T want Trump to escape justice but I’m also hesitant about the political optics. . .”
I’m of a mind that he is a problem that needs to be addressed head-on. If we avoid talking about the Trump problem, for any reason, when he’s gone, then we’re enabling the next Trump.
It’s a sticky problem, but no one should be above justice. Further, if there’s a way to avoid some of the problems we have had with this administration in the future, we need to work that out.
Last Presidential tweet was four hours ago, he was on his hind legs in a short video thanking people for their thoughts and prayers.
