I sincerely believe that she is somewhere on Putin’s payroll, and has been for decades, though I have no evidence for this whatsoever. I suspect it’s not as much what she could do, as what her connections could do.

It would be verification from someone who MAGA theoretically respects. There would be a lot of ‘a woman scorned’ pushback that would let lots of them flip-flop on her, but at this point it’s all about chipping away at the edges.

In my consideration of this possibility, “what Melania knows” isn’t the sort of thing that would ordinarily turn the opinion of a reasonable public against a public figure. It’s much closer to ‘where the bodies are buried:’ possible evidence of probable crimes.
IIRC, Florida has the common prohibition against compelling a spouse to testify against the other spouse in certain conditions.
In the situation we’re imagining, however, I wouldn’t think Melania would need to be forced to give damning testimony against her husband.

There are two types of privilege , and in some states and situations, although Melania coouldn’t be forced to testify against him, she could choose to. In other situations, he can prevent her from testifying against him.
You are correct, of course.
In Florida, though, the general law is that DJT could prevent Melania from testifying as to anything she and DJT discussed, but DJT could not prevent Melania from testifying as to what she witnessed:

I would assume Melania represents a genuine threat to Donald if/when she chooses to be one … until and unless it were proven otherwise

I think the specific context of this somewhat surreal discussion, though, is the ostensible hit that the Iranian government has put out on (Donald and) Melania’s son, Barron.
Which, one would have to assume, would be unimaginably devastating to Melania if it were to occur.

He murdered someone? He and Putin were lovers at one time? He has fathered dozens of children with different women and has had sex with all of them – moms and kids. He trafficked these secret kids? He throws kittens and puppies into a Vitamix every day just for shits and giggles. Shocking-- yes. Surprising? Probably not.
There’s “reveal”, and then there’s “testify about in court”.
