Trump is dying

Great little ditty! I especially liked the kazoo solo and hope to see the US Marine Marching Kazoo Band playing “Oh Happy Day” as his carcass is lowered into the firmament.

I’m personally fond of when John Cena announced it live on PPV right after winning the WWE Championship.

It occurred to me that, for the Make America Not Suck Again movement, for Felon-ONE to kick it right now or in the next month or so would be problematic, because he is their biggest asset. His copious flow of nonsense gives more traction to his opposition than if it were suddenly turned off.

Who likes shirts?

True. The last few months of his term could also be a problem. All the grief over losing him could give Vance a boost in his effort to be reelected. Some of that gave LBJ a boost in 1964.

I don’t know, perhaps it will be a similar situation as to when Kamala Harris stepped in for Biden and it didn’t go as smoothly as expected.

JD Vance automatically becomes POTUS if/when Trump dies but if that is (all gods great and small willing) soon, would the Republicans look at him as the candidate of choice in 2028? Or would they say that he’s responsible for all the things that will still be fucked up from Trump? And how much backstabbing will there be? Republicans are known to fall in line but for this guy?

As for the electorate, I don’t think Trump dying would translate into success for Republicans at the ballot box. At least, I don’t see how that would work. But I could potentially see it happening just out of “worst timeline” spite.

He’ll make a useful scapegoat. Nobody likes him, he’s tied inexorably to the Trump administration, and he’ll have no government position after the end of Trump’s term so it’s not like anyone has to fear retribution. Harris was similarly blamed for everything that Biden did that people didn’t like.

I think Vance’s usefulness will solely be as the blame guy. I’m not going to shed a tear over that.

Having lived through that election as a teen, I will say he probably didn’t need it, considering who his opponent was (Barry Goldwater, AKA “In your heart you know he’s a nutcase.”)

Nevertheless, I agree with the main point, that all the weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth among the 25% of Trump’s deep supporters might drown out some of the memories of what a dirty gasbag Trump is.

It was a genuine landslide and would have been either way. Yes.

I was in elementary school. The joke that went around the playground after the election was:

Q: How can you tell that LBJ is rich?
A: He flushes Goldwater down the toilet.

As a nitpick you are mixing a slogan with its rebuttal.

Goldwater: "In your heart, you know he’s right”
Johnson: “In your guts, you know he’s nuts”

I don’t remember hearing that version, but there were a lot of them around. It is snappier than mine.

The one I remember:

“In your heart you know he’s right”

“Yes, extreme right”

How quaint that Goldwater was viewed by many Democrats as a dangerous loon back in '64.

These days he’d be condemned by most Republicans as a RINO dangerous to the MAGA cause.

Even St. Ronnie would be called a RINO now.

If Goldwater was a RINO, Reagan would be the evil empire.

He allowed in immigrants from cuba

Raised taxes to keep social security solvent

Reduced the amount of nuclear weapons the US had

I’m not reading this whole thread, but trump really is evidence that lifestyle isn’t everything. He has one of the worst lifestyles possible and is still walking around at 80. Everyone keeps teasing me with hopes that his kidneys and heart are failing, but I’ll believe it when hes dead.

The version I recall hearing. Much later, of course, but still:

Goldwater: “In your heart, you know he’s right.”
Johnson: “In your heart, you know he might.”

Referring to using an atomic bomb in war, of course.

Kids in the playground at school would chant “Silver water’s OK, but gold water- yuck!”

There are several examples of “Goldwasser” on the market - liqueurs that contain floating gold flakes, which supposedly make them look ritzy.

One of them has a flavor described as sweet and syrupy with hot cinnamon, which sounds particularly nauseating.
