Turkey Time MMP(Somebody's gotta do it!)

So I need some advice. How can I make Thanksgiving dinner on less than $30.00?
I already have the fixins for green bean casserole
I have punkin pie filling
stuff for cream cheese corn
And I think I have a box o’ stuffin
I want to get a turkey, potatoes for mashin, and dinner rolls (though I could just make bizkits with my mix in a box)

We only have 150 in the bank, so spending any more is not an option. I just want to make Thanksgiving dinner special, not thread bare

I bought a 14lb turkey for $8.

You may be able to buy less than a full turkey… a breast and a couple drumsticks or thighs… cheaper than a full turkey. Definitely go with the bizkits if you already have the mix. Also, there’s a lot to be said for the presentation… eating by candlelight will make it special and memorable, even if you don’t have much to eat.

Oh it sounds SUPER NUMMY! If I ever bake again . . .

Howdy all, hope all are well

Well aren’t we all getting excited for Turkey day, I shall begin the cooking tomorrow am with dessert.

Productive day, paid my bills, had band practice, ate, posted on the dope. Yep a virtual whirlwind of activity

Apes you can do T day on the cheap, get a small turkey, raw sweet NOTs, make yer own stuffin, pumpkin pie filling and a frozen crust, make yer own whipped cream and Voila awesome T day. It will take some sweat equity. Good luck and happy eating

That’s all I have

Jim

Shoplifting? Hiding the turkey under your skirt doesn’t work unless you have the thighs of a young Schwarzennegger. And if that’s the case eeeewww give em back!

Actually, have you checked out the sale shelves at bargain/value stores? Otherwise I’d try food banks. My local shelter would load you up with stuff just to have a volunteer for dishes.

Today has been sprinkly all day which I still adore, ex desert rat that I am. Volunteered making flower arrangements for a shelter fundraiser. It’s amazing what Trader Joe’s donates; food, flowers, herbs, plants. Yay TJ’s!

Now I’m prowling the intarwebs while drinking ever more echinacea tea. At this rate my immune system is going to be strong enough to wipe out Tokyo, Godzilla style.

Have I ever told all y’all bout the time I invented turkey curling?

So, would Godzilla eat Istanbul for Turkey Day?

Apes a small turkey, some N…O.T., and what you have on hand would make a nice TDay feast on the cheap I’d think. I’m sure whatever you do will be appreciated, so don’t sweat it too much ok?

Chikin pot pie was nummy. I need to do some prep stuff for Thursday but I don’t wanna.

So I going to somebody else’s house for Thanksgiving, and I am making my Mile High Apple Pie, a deep dish apple pie that starts with five pounds of Granny Smiths for one pie. I am also making Braised Kale with Linguica, and Cornbread Muffins.

Mrs. Plant v.3.0 says that the Kroger where she is employed is marking unfrozen turkeys down on Wednesday; that is when she will buy ours.

She adds if your Kroger doesn’t do it by Wednesday afternoon, they will do it on Thursday.

Yay for exams done, Apes! That’s gotta feel good

I’ve done squat today. Got the CORRECT typing certificate, and while I was at it set up what needed to be done between the State and the job agency that does the exams. The state requires certain things, the agency didn’t know what was needed as they don’t actually have the software for something that specific. So now everyone knows what needs to be done, and that’s a good thing as there were more people lining up behind me for the same test, hehe. 5 minute test, 75 wpm, no mistakes. I can live with that.

And bought stuff for my cold rice salad, for which I still can’t think of a name. So if anyone has any suggestions, lemme know!

Actually, wait. No point in naming the deceased, lol. Better make sure it turns out before I start naming it.

Cookin’ is done, everything is away 'cept I gotta clean the smoker. Tonight’s dinner was:
smoked Copper River King Salmon with a hoisin sauce glaze,
turkey andouille snausage (I wanted a bite but ended up eating the whole piece),
smoked gouda cheese, &
(roasted) garlic. Normally, I’d spread this on bread, but given the lack of bread, I just squeezed the clove(s) into my mouth. It was all nummmmy!

Finishing packing since I need to leave at dark:30 tomorrow. I have a programmable thermostat, so it’s set back at night. The last item on the packing list is adjust the thermostat (so I don’t freeze when I get up waaaay too early tomorrow.)
As I might not get another shot at a 'puter, Happy Turkey Day all!

Thanks for the advice everyone.
I am going to go with the bizquick mix for bizkits. I ended up getting two Cornish game hens and a package of chicken drum sticks for about 14 dollars total. I also got stuffing mix, chicken broth, canned corn, refrigerated pie crusts and the other ingredients for punkin pie, golden N.O.Ts for mashin, some disposable casserole pans, $1 plastic leftover containers, and assorted spices for about $37. Hopefully it will all turn out ok. I am just praying that the check my husband is supposed to have coming for his profit sharing form work arrives soon so we can pay day care and bills without getting past due. I hate being late on bills.
So the Menu for Thanksgiving will be:
Mayo Basted Cornish Game Hens and Chicken Drumsticks with Greek Seasoning
Chicken flavored stuffing
Cream cheese Corn
Green Bean Casserole
Hand Rolled Biscuits
Sour cream mashed potatoes
Homemade punkin pie (which will be square shaped because I broke my pie dish a few weeks ago)
Sorry I have been such a downer, I don’t like feeling sorry for myself. :frowning:

This is for everyone in the MMP and everyone in my life who has helped sustain me this holiday season and helped bring a little bit of Thanksgiving and Christmas spirit to my family. I can never express eloquently enough how I feel, go I will let someone else’s words do it for me:

“In the end, though, maybe we must all give up trying to pay back the people in this world who sustain our lives. In the end, maybe it’s wiser to surrender before the miraculous scope of human generosity and to just keep saying thank you, forever and sincerely, for as long as we have voices.”
― Elizabeth Gilbert, Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman’s Search for Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia

So thank you all. Thank you for ever. I can never say it enough. Now I need a tissue :stuck_out_tongue:

Smartypants?

Good gad.

Blurf.

Apes, you know the rule: pay it forward when you can. 'cause someday you WILL be able to. Right now you have 2.5 little ones and a hubby and a house and your OWN life to take care of, and we’ve all been there one way or another. So just shoosh and force the wee ones to make hand-turkeys to hang on the fridge, lol!
Oh, and Spidey? Just how long is your smoker going to be unattended for, hrm?
Just curious…
Oh, and what’s your address? I want to, um…send a card, yeah. That’s it!

Any salmon leftover, by chance? You can leave it on the front stoop if ya want.

Blurf.

Hey, at least it’s not a blarf. Yet. (Flu season is killing off everyone around me; I am in the trenches holing up!)

I got a flu shot, administered by my husband, and all my family is properly inoculated so no fear of any major flu epidemics in this home.

Haven’t had my shot yet this year - the station gives them out each year but I missed it due to something at work, I think it was the Sandusky sentencing, so I’m at risk this year.
