(Old) Turning up the heat in the MMP

:birthday_cake::bottle_with_popping_cork: Happy birthday, nellie! :birthday_cake::bottle_with_popping_cork:

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 16c/60f with no predicted change, and a chance of showers. Weather app says “According to my fucking sources, rain sucks ass.” Not today it doesn’t, I’m in the house, no plans to go out again, so it can rain all it wants.

Assuming the tyres are the same ones that were on the car originally, that would make them 9 years old, and I’ve had the car for 5 years so I reckon they’re about due for a change then.

Spend it on your garden before he spends it on the boat, or a dog, or both!

One thing I always liked about moving to a new town was finding a different supermarket to explore!

What a lovely gift from the groomers, that’s so thoughtful. When we collected Shadow’s ashes from the vet, they gave us a sympathy card with a packet of forget-me-not seeds inside, and also a card with some seeds embedded in it that you plant in an indoor pot. A lovely reminder of any of our pets.

VanGo sorry to hear Miss Peach found something to gnaw on that she shouldn’t have. I hope you find all the bits!

{{{{{sensei}}}}}

I saw your post on FB about it, I hope you enjoy the day even if your expectations are not high.

Not at all - Buck House has the builders in! It was quite widely reported over there that they would not host anything at the Palace because there’s renovation work going on. Personally I think it’s so he couldn’t pocket any of the gold fixtures and fittings.

Yesterday was a pleasant enough evening, I made chicken curry for dinner and have leftovers for the freezer which will probably be dinner for me on Monday and Tuesday. Today has been a busy one already - I was up early for the gym, I was booked on two classes but wasn’t sure they’d go ahead as there were only two of us booked on. Fortunately the other person turned up, and things went ahead as planned.

Got home and had a shower, and a couple of cups of tea, fussed Muffin a bit, gave the cats some more food, and then we headed out. I parked on the little retail park where the pet store is, and we went across to Jack’s Café for lunch. Then walked into town and went our separate ways to do our various errands. I didn’t have much to do so I got a little wander around until it was time to meet up again and go back to the pet store for cat litter, mog food and bags of treats.

We’re back home again, missed most of the football traffic and came home to find nobody had blocked my gates so I was able to park in my off-street space. Another cuppa is going down, and I have nothing else to do with my day. We decided on chippy tea tonight, and our entertainment will be a film or two, and a cocktail or two. Espresso Martinis and Margaritas will be order of the night.

Everybody breakfasted. French toast with orange zest this morning (not for Sadie). The NYT puzzle was a bear. Had to cheat on one clue.

Found three cracked eggs in the carton this morning. I could swear they weren’t there before. So now I get to go to the store again this week, as the wife is also out of milk. Then I have to make the lasagna sauce. I’m feeling a bit like Ray Liotta in “Goodfellas” at the moment; where’s my lucky hat?

I’ve just put the bacon into the oven. I’m making cheese omelette-and-bacon sandwiches.

Maybe you do this; but when I buy eggs, I wiggle each egg (two at a time) in the carton to make sure they’re not stuck to the bottom. I started doing this after one time an egg had cracked on the bottom, and stuck to the carton.

We’re planning on going down to Fort Casey and the Admiralty Head Lighthouse in a couple of hours. I’ve laid out our Discovery Pass. Maybe I should put my wallet around it just to me sure we take it.

I’ve sent an email to set up a meeting so I can sign the contract and give them a down payment. And ask a few questions, Sometime this coming week, I hope.

We came home for a couple of quick tasks and a couple of forgotten tools. FCD was going to try to make do, but I suggested we do it right. Plus I got to have lunch. We’ll head back and finish what we can (that is, he’ll finish and I’ll stand around till he needs something.)

Our marina is apparently known for being a good place for catamarans to haul out for a quick hull cleaning before heading on their way south - the travelift is wide enough to accommodate them. We counted 4 in the water and at least 3 hauled out for reasons. There were big ‘uns, too, not measly HobieCats. At least 2 are 45’ long. Lots of big $$$ floating around our little project.

OK, it’s about time to gather stuff up and head back. Hope we can make quick work of it.

When I was a kid in San Diego I really, really wanted a Hobie 16. But I had to make-do with Lido 14s, Capri 16s, and an 8-footer whose name I don’t recall. Nowadays I could buy a Hobie 16, but my knees are too bad.

Find the Cornhusker and Michigan Wolverines game and cheer Nebraska on, we could use the good vibes. It’s at 2:30pm Central.

I’ve been invited over to my grandchildren’s house to watch the game but I suspect it’s more to help with my 4yo grandson and the 6 month old baby so my son-in-law can watch the game (my daughter and grand daughter are going to a puppy yoga event).

Go :american_football: Big :ear_of_corn: Red!!

I’ve done that in the past; but these were cracked on top, which is weird. These particular eggs are in a clear plastic container, so I’m sure I would have noticed any dings at the store.

Thank you for the birthday wishes, Mumper chums! I decided to spend today counting my blessings. I’m going to venture out long enough to deliver cake slices to a few people here in the complex. I’ve always liked the Hobbit tradition of giving to others on their birthdays. I used to bake cupcakes on my birthday and bring them in for my students plus apple whiskey cakes for select faculty and staff. This is my retired version, I guess.

My brother and family just called, and my great-nieces said “Happy Birthday!” in their clear, fluting little voices. Then everyone sang to me, including SIL, nephew, wife, and the little girls–off-key, but so sweet it brought tears to my eyes. (I’m a sap.)

Cookie, I had the same thing happen to me the other day, only it was one egg instead of two, and like you, I’d jiggled. Are shells thinner these days or something? Also, I hope Sadie got an extra treat. It must be hard to be a cat and unable to eat the lovely-smelling human food.

Oopsie, I’m glad I’m not the only one who reads “marina” as “marinara..” I always think, “Italian must be contagious!” Also, Happy Birthday Eve!

Door! I’ll be back.

Hapy birthday Nellie!

Having a somewhat lazy day. Pottering around the house is a fair description, though at least I’m getting some of the tiny jobs that I keep putting off done. Shame all the little jobs keep making even more jobs. They’re breeding somewhere.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

In other news…

  1. Our Discover Pass expired at the end of August. I had to go down to the corner market for a new one. Of course there was someone buying a (time-consuming) fishing license.
  2. We got another mole. The Missus got a bag, and I opened the trap to dump it in. I’ve reset the trap.

The mail carrier was parked in front of the mailbox when I got home, and I had to wait for him to leave. Wifey, RN finally got her pay from DSHS. I told her earlier that it would arrive today. She’d seen the mail carrier and was on her way out to get it. She’s the one who saw the mole trap had tripped.

Heading out on our outing in a few minutes.

We’ve kept boats here in Solomons for most of the last 21 years. And for the 3 years we lived in Virginia at the end of the 90s. And just a little bit ago, FCD asked - “Do you know where the McDonald’s is?”

:face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I’ll blame it on preoccupation. Um, yeah, I know where it is…

Watch out for helicopters!

I gotta go back to work, and after last night’s bullshittery, I’m not at all looking forward happily to it.

Y’all, I may need to start looking for a new job. In this political climate, in a small town in the Rust Belt … fuck me sideways.

Add getting to the post office before it closed so we could mail a package. I swear I spotted a chopper on the way.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, NELLIE!

Happy marina news, hope lens #2 is not in dog, hope that’s the last mole, good luck with job search. Everyone, enjoy the weekend! It’s sunny now, but we’re hoping for rain tonight. I must conduct mowage within a few days.

Home again. For anyone who really cares, this is one of the old fuel tanks. The arrow is to give a point of reference for the new tank installation.
Imgur
What you can’t see (nor could we) was the amount of corrosion on the top of the tank, among other places. But note the height.

These are the new tanks on the starboard side:
Imgur
The arrow points to the same vertical support. Instead of one 200 gallon tank on each side, we now have two 70 gallon tanks on each side. So less fuel, but a much simpler installation. Some people have had big sections of deck removed in order to replace the tanks. FCD sized these so they’d fit thru the doors plus there would be space on top so we could see if any corrosion develops. And no, there’s not rust on top - it’s sawdust.

Also in the first pic, you can see the generator. It hasn’t yet been reinstalled - that’ll come next week. All the wires on the right side will attach to the generator. Except the orange one - that’s an extension cord that FCD was using. But as you can see, my attention to handing down tools has led to a perfect installation!

I believe I’ve earned chillage.

Lunch with my 24-year-old “nephew” was great! He brought my early birthday gifts from my BFFs: gift cards for Lego and J.Jill, plus homemade banana muffins and chocolate chip cookies. I might be most excited about the baked goods! We tentatively agreed that I’ll visit TX during his spring break; he’ll discuss it with his GF when he gets back home. We have a few months before I’ll want to buy plane tickets (it’ll be my first flight since January 2020!). After we ate we went to Old Navy and Kohl’s so he could look for pants: he has a funeral tomorrow and the family has asked that no one wear black, and all of his “good” pants are black. He found a pair of grey khakis at Kohl’s that are a little long, but WifeBFF can cuff them. I picked up a shirt and some earrings. I’ll see him and his GF (who I love) here at Christmas, then hopefully again – in TX – in early March.

I’d expected to wind up at my BFFs’ and hang out there for the rest of the day, but since I got home “early” I texted another good friend – at around 2pm, with apologies for the short notice – and asked if she and her husband might be up for an early dinner and live jazz at a place near both of us (same place we went to almost exactly a month ago). Happily, they are! So, I’m killing time until I head out again. I’ll stay in jeans, but will swap my t-shirt for a casual blouse and my sneakers for flats.

(I’m so used to only being out either during the day or in the evening, because of the dog: I’m definitely still adjusting to the fact that I can be out whenever and for as long as I want now. It’s both a happy and a sad thing…if that makes sense.)

Since this thread is the home of the mundane and pointless, I will share that I’ve decided to relocate my Atari system from the living room to the home office. I’m on my home computer right now because a little while ago I had the Atari console on my desk, connected to my PC for a firmware update. When the update finished, I thought, “Hey, I bet I can hook this up to my external monitor…and wouldn’t it be easier and more comfortable to play in here??” There’s also a lot more space for a rolling “game cart” in this room. I need an HDMI-to-USB-C (video) converter to make it work, so I just ordered one – and a cart – from Amazon. They’ll both arrive tomorrow. Given the room change, I was able to prioritize function over design with the cart: I wound up choosing this one.

Ugh. :frowning:

I’ll say!

Wow! Fuel tanks are in!

I was loading 200 Top Red/Top Green today. 7 cars, but it wasn’t as many pacakges as last week. I did the damages/clerking, that took till 12:30, and I got home at 1. Which meant Spot was alone for 15min.
Spot: “You are late.”
Me: “It was 15 minutes.”
Spot: “I could have choked to death on a martini olive in that time.”
Me: “Well, give me some winning Powerball numbers.”
Spot: “I won you $7 that one time.”
Me: “The jackpot was $1.4billion, dude.”
Spot: “7, 1.4 billion, how many green pieces of paper do you primates need anyways?”
So after a short nap, I’m watching Wolfpack handegg and having a gin&tonic, since it’s 91 degrees outside.

:champagne: :birthday_cake: :partying_face:HAPPY BIRTHDAY NELLIE!!! :birthday_cake: :champagne:

At least you’re not in Texas, I guess?

Nice tanks Moooooommmmmm!!!

Ah, yes, the “well, things could be worse” thing.

I think this worked, so I’m shamelessly double-posting.

(If the link doesn’t work, I apologize.)
