Now THAT completely slipped under my radar- and I occasionally watch him (6 am Mondays WGN L). Yeah, I have a nostalgic affection for the philandering twice-excommunicated but still rather charming Bible teacher. In my teen years, developing my Christian faith, I listened to him & his Dad tho I didn’t take any of the fringe teachings seriously, and of course I got several years of free PLAIN TRUTH magazines. I’m surprised no one here posted anything. Even more surprised that the broadcast doesn’t mention it (something like “we present the messages of our departed pastor…”).
Goodbye, Garner Ted. You were a scoundrel & a borderline cultist, but you were a damn good communicator & gave me a lot to think about & some entertaining moments (a rather perverse Christmas tradition for me is to catch an Armstrong “C’mas is a pagan holiday” message.)
Now you know the Plain Truth & I’m sure I’ll see a much-chastised you (as well as a much-chastised me) in The World Tomorrow.
Btw, he was 73 yo, died of complications from pneumonia, left behind the Intercontinental Church of God in the hands of his son Mark Armstrong.
