TV shows you wish had not been cancelled

Sportsnight
Family Guy
Firefly
The Tick

A third for Cupid

A second for Twin Peaks

A second for The Tick (Even though we have the whole series on tape…:D)

That one about the obsessive-compulsive detective got cancelled, right? I loved it when we had cable.

Martin

If you mean ‘Monk’, I don’t think it got cancelled. USA Network is still showing it on Friday nights at 10 p.m., last time I checked. They are currently showing reruns, but I expect a new episode any time soon.

Sapphire and Steel (a Brit TV series)

  • Andy Richter Controls the Universe (I’m still checking tvguide.com 2 weeks in advance and it hasn’t been airing for months)
  • Family Guy
  • Firefly
  • The Tick (both animated and live-action)

Profit.

The Adventures of Brisco County Jr.

The world clearly needs more Bruce Campbell, and this was his vehicle program. Too bad it petered out. I guess I’ll toss in Jack of All Trades in that same spirit…it was crushed by the desire to make Cleopatra: 2525 an hour long, despite it’s obvious shortcomings and character as yet another typical and unoriginal Raimi/Bellisario production. They’ve always needed a great lead who understood the B-movie nature of the series and could play the character with that sort of flare, they had Scott Bakula, Kevin Sorbo, Lucy Lawless…they needed Bruce, but they have forsaken him. For shame!

Oh and BTW, Quantum Leap (which I was a huge fan of) was extended waaaaaaaaaaaay past it’s normal lifespan becaue the guy in charge of programming at NBC owed Bellisario a crapload of favors and had a special place in his heart for the show anyways. So it really got a far longer run than it “should” have, I’m not complainin’…well, we can all complain about the way the series ended, but other than that

Another vote for Brisco County Jr and MST3K, although once Forester went away and his mom took over, the out of movie bits really sucked.

Personally, my favorite show when it was out was G vs. E. It was hilarious, incredibly well put together, had some amazing camera work, an interesting premise, and was just enjoyable as hell. Then Sci-Fi bought it from USA and flushed it down the drain.

And although I haven’t seen it for a while, I was sad to hear Farscape is going off the air. In my opinion, it’s the best sci-fi show out there right now.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith !!

I could watch Maria Bello 24 hrs a day 7 days a week.

Doctor, Doctor, Matt Frewer
Friends and Lovers, Paul Sand, Penny Marshall, Steve Landesberg (anyone remember this 70’s show?)
Hooperman, John Ritter, Barbara Bosson
The John Larroquette Show
Eerie, Indiana, (great for skeptics!)
Dinosaurs
Duckman, Jason Alexander
The P.J.'s, Eddie Murphy
Open All Night, (Dave Letterman had a cameo)
The Duck Factory, Jack Gilford, Jim Carrey
Brothers
Brooklyn Bridge
Dream On
Fernwood 2 Night, Martin Mull, Fred Willard
My Talk Show, (wonderful collection of cameos from B-grade, even C-grade celebs)

Some of these and others mentioned on this thread, like Clerks, for example, are available as VHS or DVD on Amazon.

Obviously, with this list of obscure and short-lived shows, my tastes could not be called “mainstream.”

Tenspeed and Brownshoe. It did not last very long but I like Ben Vereen.

** The Tick **
** Freaks and Geeks **

I have to agree with everyone who’s mentioned “Twin Peaks,” “Cupid,” “American Gothic,” and “Sports Night.”

I’ve got a couple more
“Picket Fences” - delightfully wierd without becoming a complete twin peaks rip off
“Relativity” - a little cheesy but fun all the same

I agree with RealTronic, Mr. and Mrs. Smith had some potential.

I’d forgotten about that show! I liked it, too. Jeff Goldblum was so cute. Still is, actually.

Family Guy
Titus

Oh, yeah, How about “Get a Life”. Thats the one where this 30something paperboy still lived at home with his parents. Damn funny, if you ask me. Cancelled way before its time.

I’ll 2nd, 3rd or 4th Sports Night, Now and Again & Titus.

Add to the list Jack & Jill (I not only loved the characters and story, but they played the BEST music!) and a very short-lived show called Cold Feet.

FARSCAPE!!!
(Though we can still catch the end of the 4th season Friday nights @ 7p Central on the Scifi channel!)
Due South
MST3K
The Adventures of Briscoe County, Jr.
Futurama
Firefly
The Tick (Live & Animated)
Earthworm Jim
