TV Trivia: States

Utah - Donny and Marie?

Coach could also be counted for Florida.

That sappy show with Kelly Martin, Christy was filmed in Tennessee and I believe was supposed to take place in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee.

I always try to do things in chronological order.

I remember an old detective series called BOURBON STREET BEAT set in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The younger sister on My Sister Sam" (the girl that got killed, can’t think of her name right now), was supposed to have moved from Oregon to live w/her sister in San Fran. A stretch, but better than nothing.

Man, I watched way too much TV growing up…

“Newhart” was set in Vermont.

“The Torkelsons” was short-lived and deserved it, but it was set for a while in Oklahoma.

And I’m sure that “Wild Bill Hickock” would have been set in Deadwood, South Dakota. But it was on before I was born, so I don’t know.

Indiana wants me. Lord, I can’t go back there.

wasn’t there a TV series “The Big Easy” after the movie with Dennis Quaid? That would be ok for Louisiana.

I am diagonally parked in a parallel universe.

Judging Amy is set in Hartford, Connecticut. Of course, nothing has been filmed here and in every episode it’s fall.

For Louisiana… in addition to the already mentioned The Big Easy and *Bourbon Street Beat *(nice one, kawliga, BTW), add:

Frank’s Place (w/Tim Reid)
Orleans (w/Larry Hagman)
Longstreet (w/ James Franciscus)
NOPD (an early 50s syndicated crime drama)

Actually, all are specifically set in New Orleans. Don’t recall if any series used any other part of Louisiana as the setting. The first season of In the Heat of the Night was shot with Hammond, La. doubling for Sparta, Miss., but that’s not quite the same thing.

And here’s one from the past… anyone recall Carter Country? Late 70s sitcom, set near Plains, Georgia. It actually lasted a two full season.

On a whim I decided to look up Carter Country to see if there was anything else interesting about the show I was not remembering…

Get a load of this: One of the cast members during the second season was Melanie Griffith(!); and the fictional Georgia town in the show was Clinton Corners! Hmmmm… Carter Country… Clinton Corners…

It’s a tenuous link, I admit, but anyone out there willing to put money on the next democratic adminsitration being led by “President Evening?” (A big tip 'o the hat to the first person to unravel that obscure reference!)

Evening Shades, Arkansas.

Tennessee: Petticoat Junction and, I believe, Green Acres, plus several individual episodes of The Beverly Hillbillies

West Virginia: The Real McCoys

Kentucky: Daniel Boone

Wyoming: Kind of a reach, but if you assume Jellystone National Park = Yellowstone National Park, then the Yogi Bear cartoon series is set there.

Better example for New Mexico: Roswell.
The show sucks, but it’s definitely set in NM.

Because of Roswell, I’m sure there are X-Files episodes set there too.

There is one safeguard known generally to the wise, which is an advantage and security to all,
but especially to democracies as against despots. What is it? Distrust.

Well, first of all, the show for Md. was called Homicide: Life ON the Street, not INthe street. And Roc was set in B-more too.

Cecil said it. I believe it. That settles it.

I always had the impression that The Lawman was supposed to have been placed in Montana, but I can’t find anything to back that up.

OTOH, Lonesome Dove (the series) was definitely set in Montana (at least in the beginning.

Tom~

The Real McCoys was set in California.

From the theme song:

“Want you to meet the family that’s known as The Real McCoys.
From West Virginee they came to stay in sunny Californi-ay.”
