TV Trivia: States

Heh… the one thing mentioning Oregon was someone leaving it to go to California… Methinks it shoulda been the other way around, perhaps.

“I never meant to hurt you,” you said,
And buried yourself in lies instead.
Next time I would rather be slain,
Than forced to bear your mercy again.

Oregon - Hello, Larry
Utah - Encyclopedia Brown
West Virginia - It’s a Man’s World (?)

Which Great Plains state was afflicted by Pa Ingalls and his treacly family?

Tom~

Anyone know where F Troop was supposed to be set?

I believe Little House on the Prairie was set in Kansas, but I am not 100% certain.

Little House on the Prairie was set in Walnut Grove, Minnesota.

For Kansas, try The Phil Silvers Show (a.k.a., You’ll Never Get Rich) set at beautiful Ft. Baxtor, Kansas. Sgt. Bilko and the gang later moved further west (California? Nevada?), but the first few years of the series were set in the proverbial “middle of nowhere.”

Re. F-Troop, no local was ever specified. Ft. Courage exists in the the mythical “west.”

I think AfterMAS*H was set in Missouri.

“Sherlock Holmes once said that once you have eliminated the
impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be
the answer. I, however, do not like to eliminate the impossible.
The impossible often has a kind of integrity to it that the merely improbable lacks.”
– Douglas Adams’s Dirk Gently, Holistic Detective

Wyoming- Here’s a better one for Wyoming: “Cheyenne” (a 1950’s western series).

New Mexico: “The Rifleman”

Still don’t have them all. Any more?

Looks like we’re down to:
Alabama
Idaho
Nebraska
New Hampshire
North Dakota

:::cheating again:::

Nebraska – Heartland

I am Mr. Know-it-all
I am so eloquent
Perfection is my middle name
And whatever rhymes with eloquent.
- Primus

Pick a better example than Scarecrow and Mrs. King for D.C. Both the office and the home scenes there were set in Virginia, which is where the C.I.A. is located.

Looks like we’re still missing Alabama, Idaho, New Hampshire and North Dakota

I have racked my brain, and I just don’t believe any television series has ever been set in any of these states. A demographic wrong must be righted! We need to make a pitch to the TV studios for the following series:
[ul][li]Lost Highway Serialized story of the young Hank Williams, growing up in and around Montgomery and Mobile, Alabama. (Similar to “Elvis: The Early Years”).[/li][li]Tater Tots The story of a group of angst-ridden teenagers in rural Idaho (in a nod to the “Party of 5” demographic), who refer to themselves, in mock derision, as “The Tater Tots”. (Alternate choice: A series based on the nutty hi-jinks of a group of strident and paranoid, but incompetent, militia members. Kind of F-Troop meets the militia movement. Title suggestions?)[/li][li]New Hampshire. OK. I’m stumped.[/li]North Dakota is easy. Just do a television series based on the movie Fargo. No-brainer, doncha know?[/ul]

The movie Fargo is set in Minnesota, except for a single scene in Fargo.

OK, I’m stumped then. What the devil is North Dakota known for? Was Dances With Wolves set there? There must be something series-worthy there.

*Wendell Wagner: Pick a better example than Scarecrow and Mrs. King for D.C. Both the office and the home scenes there were set in Virginia, which is where the C.I.A. is located. *

OK, how 'bout “Six Million Dollar Man”, even though the out-of-town scenes are obviously neither Virginia nor Maryland.

Better yet: “The West Wing”. There.

As for other US Territories: “The Flying Nun” for Puerto Rico.

How about the Simpsons for every state that has a Springfield?

Ah yes, but only Illinois, Tennessee, Kentucky and Missouri have both a Springfield and a Shelbyville.

Of those, only in Kentucky are Springfield and Shelbyville in close proximity, and anywhere near the same size.

The Simpsons set in Kentucky??? It would explane Cletus, the slack-jawed yokel, I guess…

I’m kidding, I’m kidding! (I kid Kentuckians,'cause I love 'em!)

Murphy Brown or The West Wing should do for DC.

I came across an old western series called The Dakotas, set in “the Dakota Territory.” Close enough for North Dakota for me. One episode was called “Red Sky Over Bismark.”

Recap: BOLD - Nothing yet
