Biggleswade

now that is a word…

We can probably manage more than one pub, I hope

The pub doesn’t look to be that near any station. Maybe the Barton Arms could be a daytime activity and back to the city centre in time for an evening session?

OK, how about this for a plan.

Meet in a city centre bar, eg the Iron Man for 1pm.

Head to the Barton Arms.

Sit in Barton Arms and drink lots of beer

Go for a curry.

Go to a pub near the curry house, eg the Goose at the OVT afterwards.

bring your lecturer and we’ll have words

It’s a start. You’re missing a few essentials:

  • assemble in ‘Borg-like’ hive mind mode in front of a pub quiz machine, full of bravado and determined to win enough cash for a round or two

  • retire gracelessly from quiz machine defeat, bickering and blaming one another for the loss of £20 decent beer money

  • fixate endlessly on an immensely trivial point of pop culture, involving heated dispute and debate, only resolved by a ruling from Steve Wright (in person or on phone)

  • presentation by Tansu and Fierra (if present) on marketing plans for Cleavage Beer line of pubs

  • freestyle ranting from Twisty on whatever he’s been most appalled by lately, followed by sustained applause and admiration

  • what about this Cadbury’s World place? Has this been officially dropped?

I think the cadbury world thing is a side project for early risers.

Ianzin - if you are going i can bring your Web Planet vids if you want them. (Will cost you a couple of Britneys)

I’ll be there. Or I’ll be square. One of the two.

With a sharp pointy stick? I’ve just seen him actually, and casually ribbed him about that photo and his 2nd year students. He seems very non-plussed by it all, and at least is thankful that it wasn’t a photo from later on in the evening!

Cadbury World can be done if people want. It would involve getting to Brum about 10am though…

It’s a done deal!

I’d love to come, and they’ve just restarted the Knock-Birmingham flights and I’ve priced it at 76Euros r/t, but I can’t figure out to get from where I am to Knock.

Anyone have any info on how much the accomodation might cost?

So there are at least 3 IOM dopers. Me, Oblong, and I know of one other not mentioned (a student with a screen name with the word ‘green’ in it, if I remember correctly.

You see? - we do have electricity in the Isle of Man.

Angua did you take your name from the Discworld character?

just because you have the leccy doesn’t mean you are civilized

Lobsang, yes. Seethis thread as to why

It looks unlikely that Washte and myself will be able to make it.

:frowning:

Accomodation costs seems to be around the £50 mark centrally (or more of course). Further out around £25-35 a single. Some of the places on smoothhound has twins and triples, so that could be another way of saving.

I would suggest not going too far out - Edgbaston has plenty of hotels/guest houses, particularly along the Hagley Road (the lower the number, the nearer to the centre), so might be a good choice.

The Sunday papers sometimes carry ads for Holiday Inn etc special deals - might be worth looking out for (I daren’t buy one myself. I’m already finding enough excuses not to finish marking a bunch of assignments :frowning: )

I may well not be able to get there until at least 2pm (unless I feel like paying thirty quid extra for a non-cheap train ticket). But that’s OK, as I can get to wherever you all are by means of bus or taxi (probably bus, you know me and buses)

I think an early run down to Brum and a look around the National Motorbike Museum seems an interesting option.

Those of you using travelling may want to bear in mind that Birmingham City, West Bromwich Albion and Walsall are all playing at home on the 26th (although not, fortunately, Aston Villa). May be worth setting out a little earlier.
