UKDopeFest

Okey dokey!

So it’s some time early afternoon @ the Old Joint Stock (sounds like a hippy bar!), look for the group of vastly more intelligent people…
I guess nobody’s got a copy of the Chicago Whatsit that they could put out on the table for easy Doper Spotting?

Also, still having tremendous trouble with the hotel. Does anyone mind sharing a room somewhere since hotels don’t seem to take Ye Olde Cashe but I expect you guys might

I asked for a double - but if you want i’ll see if they’ll swap it to a room with 2 singles.

Always happy to share costs

That’d be wicked, if it’s no trouble! Cheers!

Nope. I haven’t. Maybe someone who’s going to be there early could be wearing something distinctive? Or else, there’s always shout out something like “gotcha ya” and see who responds

You will spot the Dopers. Trust me on this.

don’t get any funny ideas though - i’m a trained ninja.

paperwork is at home, but i’ll give them a ring tomorrow.

I’m at the Campanile too, and will probably be on the same train as Fran arriving around 12:30.

It could be arranged.

could someone maybe bring a stuffed animal?

that would stand out.

I have a little yellow ducky who’d enjoy a DopeFest…

that could work.

is it good at quizes?

There will be a small sheep too. Many of you have met the small sheep before.

Small Sheep. Click on pictures for profiles.

She is. She spent four years sat on top of my monitor when I was an undergrad. She probably absorbed more knowledge than I did

I might bring a small penguin.

Will the small penguin be covered in bechemel sauce?

Queen Francesca may I say how honoured I am to have a sheep named after me (for any 'merkins, that’s the correct way to say “named for me”). Not much of a resemblance, though. And ‘sheeps’ is so much better than ‘sheep’.

Is there any ‘official’ London > Brum train on which a number of us are planning to travel? If so, do we want to estabish a meeting point / place so we can clump together afore boarding? Or is that really just [too organised?

jr8 I doubt you need to slog away making up quiz questions. Your nearest book shop is groaning with the weight of cheap pub quiz books, but the best are the ‘Who Wants To Be A Millioniare’ books, which can be ‘played’ in a pub easily. People can play individually or in teams, and we see how far up the ladder each team can get. “Phone a friend” means nominating one person from the opposing team you think might actually be able to help, and they have to truthfully be as helpful as they can.

Rejoice in the fact that these Boards are the only place where you will see a post like “Will the small penguin be covered in bechemel sauce?” and nobody considers it unusual.

Loser team buys the winner team a round of drinks. At a Dopefest, I suspect the best part would be having team captains (e.g. Queen Fran and Alex B) pick their teams, trying to achieve that fine balance of strengths across several subjects. Then, of course, there are the internal team rows about which is the right answer… always good fun and ripping excuse for a good sulk afterwards.

Hmmm good point - didn’t think of that.

For what its worth i’m currently booked on the 12:00 from London Euston to Brimingham New Street.

I’m going via Reading, I’m booked on the 11:05 Virgin train, I don’t know if this one originates in London or not.

While I’m here, there was mention earlier in this thread about drinkies in London this Saturday, what’s the story with this? I could get into town for an afternoon or evening session.

Where’s the fun in copying all the answers out of one book? I want to put in some … creative… questions.

<cackles fiendishly>

However, some WWTBAM lifelines might add some spice to the game. I’ll start putting something together. If we don’t use it, well, I can always find another group to torment.

Twisty and I will be around this Saturday… apparently Madam Tussauds has an exhibition of Serial Killers going on… I am so there!

Wanna meet up for a beer?
Have you got my number, or Twisty’s?
