Hm, I can’t seem to find my copy of the book for the course, I think I left it at work. But here’s a link to the Professor’s blog: http://thecrimeprofessor.blogspot.com/ If you are interested in the topic, I suggest listening to his podcasts posted on there. It’s more of a conversation of the topic with music playing than it is a summary of the chapter. My favorite quote so far “These individuals have lives like you’d expect from those who have utterly just failed at everything”.
John Wright. Nice guy, good sense of humor, and actually teaches his online class instead of just writing up a syllabus with assigned readings and expecting us to write papers.

Awesome, I will check that out. I had 2 years of Criminal Justice at the U of Wisconsin/Superior before I elected to change my major. The department head was one of only a handful of guys in the country with PHD’s in criminology, Gary Keveles. Wonderful professor, and one of those people you meet who astound you in every way.
I’d wish you good luck in your studies, but it sounds like you have it about wrapped up, so I’ll go with congrats.
Well, that was a fun break. It was time to get Mrs. Dvl up (she caught a couple hours shuteye), so I took about a half hour to chill. Something nice about a standalone house (and no visible neighbors), a djembe, and a wife who recently started taking djembe lessons with me
…now, if anyone out there can help me remember the parts to Zaouli…
The US men are playing basketball in the gold medal game like it’s a pickup game against some high school kids. They look horrible.
On the upside, I’ve finally gotten a chance to listen to the new Islands album, and the new album by Human Highway, both being side projects of **The Unicorns’ ** frontman Nick Thorburn. I am in love. Both albums are wonderful.
Yes, it’s a live feed. I have to be here to run the live breaks and whatnot.
The Unicorns were an amazing and critically acclaimed indie pop band from Montreal, Canada that released one major album, and two others with limited presses. They broke up shortly after thier first album, and thier front man went on to form Islands and Human Highway. They are very hard to describe; melodic and sweet, yet thier songs tend to zig when you think they are going to zag. They don’t follow the traditional chorus-verse-chorus pattern, and for that reason thier music seems to always stay fresh.
Try the song “Tuff Ghost” for starters. “Jellybones” and “Do The Knife Fight” are also favorites of mine. Thier best song, “Child Stars”, is, sadly, not on the page.
Then check out Islands page, and listen to the song “Swans”.
Then you Americans have your clocks changed for summer…
Then we have ours changed back for winter…
Then the opposite happens…
And of course, the Brits chime in…
With their own summer clock changing…
Net result? When posting on the SDMB, I don’t know whether I’m Arthur or Martha as far as posting here goes. If I post something witty and brilliant, and nobody replies, I just put it down to the time difference…

Arthur or Martha? Um… who? Don’t you only have that one celeb down yonder … that guy with the big hat and knife … sang about vegamite or something… let’s see, who could that (have been) now? Care to share an idiom?
Yeah, time difference. That’s what happens to all my GD posts. Time difference.
The few seconds I got to listen to the Unicorns sounded pretty good (when slogging through paragraphs it’s kind of impossible to listen to music), and I look forward to catching more of them later.
If I can repay with a musical notion–if you don’t already know her or have a strong aversion to blistering funk, check out Betty Davis. No, not BetteDavis the actress, Mrs. Miles Davis. Jaw-dropping good, and with a history to match (married to Miles, alleged affair with Hendrix, probable inspiration behind Bitches Brew…) Oh, and don’t let the jazz ties fool you (if for some reason you’re jazz-averse), she’s much closer to Parliament/Funkadelic than Miles.

Musical notions are the only currency I accept. I can’t wait to get to my home computer to give this a go. I do have a natural jazz aversion, but George Clinton has long been a favorite of mine. Thank you so much, and if it’s ok, I’ll pm you my thoughts.

Oh, I’ll be up all night too!
I have a paper to write for grad school.
Then I have a final exam to write for the same class.
Then I have to finish packing up all my stuff as I have to be out of my apartment by Thursday morning.
Then I have to fill out a job app that is about 45 pages.
Then I have to fill out another job app that is about 40 pages (both due by Thursday).
Then I have to change my address with about 12 different businesses.
Then I have to find a power company for my new apartment so I can move in.
Then I have to see if AT&T will switch my DSL service, or if I am better off signing up from scratch.
Then I have to pack all my worldly belongings into my car to make sure they will fit for the upcoming move.
And then my corporation in the game EVE decided to break up, so now I have to move all of my virtual property halfway across the damn galaxy, which I do NOT have the time for this week.
And to top that all off, I’m working 10 hour days until Thursday, when everything absolutely has to be done.
I’m going to need more coffee.
Also, if anyone knows anything about how many of the “causes” of delinquency and criminalistic behavior are actually “outcomes” associated with misconduct due to biological effects and deficiency within the developing brain… yeah, if you are an expert on that, it would really help me out about now regarding those papers I’m writing.

It’s really funny that you should mention that. My best friend’s husband is an expert on the subject. I’m not even making that up. Small world, isn’t it?

He changes jobs and apartments every week? Damn, busy guy!
(Reminds me of an old SNL skit: “In New York City, someone is mugged every fifteen minutes. Tonight, we’re going to meet that man.”)

WOW! The Olympics only went until 4 am instead of 5 for some reason! Im Out! Im Free! Sweet elusive mistress Sleep, you shall soon be mine.
Thanks for the company, but SO LONG SUCKERS!

Ah, sleep, perchance to collapse in a heap without even taking your shoes off.
Ah, night audit. I was a bellman at a Hilton years ago (one of the best jobs in the world at the time). Saw the NAs come in and leave, depending on my shift. Sometimes both in the same night/day. Some absurdly fun times.
