US Capitol under siege

Better info: the guy who tased himself had a heart attack, another man apparently had a stroke, a woman carrying a “Don’t Tread On Me” flag was trampled in the riot, and the police officer who was in critical condition after being bludgeoned with a fire extinguisher has died.

I just heard about this:

Stolen.

You can find it in the responses to his tweet, if you need it back.

I’m sorry you had to be associated with that/them in any way. I hope you took a long, hot shower later. The stink is fierce in that cohort.

[A bad burger ? At a mostly Greek restaurant ? Oh, the humanity. I hope they, at least, have kick-ass French Fries]

NewsNation on WGN America is reporting members of the Coup Clutz Clan have been on social media, promising more riots.

If one lives in a state capital, one should be wary. As it happens, I live in a state capital. I expect 1/20 to be bad.

Apparently 1/17 is the day to be wary: https://www.cnbc.com/2021/01/08/twitter-permanently-suspends-trumps-account.html

FWIW those of the police who have enabled out of sympathies for the cause are likely both not as sympathetic now that one theirs is dead as a result, and very aware that they will be held to account for keeping things under control.

Anything that is tried will be met with, if anything, excessive force.

Here’s a better picture to remember him by.

Another take on the question by Marist. Page 8 on.

Of Republicans 80% oppose what was done but split 47 to 47 whether it was lawful. Oddly though 82% think those who broke in should be prosecuted? 69% do not hold Trump as responsible for it and 82% would be against his removal.

Mind you only 28% were willing to identify as Republican now.

He never actually attended the BLM rally. I believe a disagreement over masks was the stated excuse. But you’re pretty much right about everything else. He is sincere, although dumber than dirt. His take is that since he had a friend shot and killed by federal law enforcement, they should have common cause. The rest of his “movement” disagreed.

I just learned today that Brian Sicknick is from my home town in New Jersey. I don’t know him or his family, but this makes it feel close to home.

I live down the street from a state Capitol, in a state capital in a really red state. I’m turning out my porch light on the 20th.

1/17 seems to be a day, too, for some reason. Keep your head down.
You stay safe.

Same here. I’m also painting my lintel with the blood of tyrants, just to play it safe.

Of course it would have to be the 17th. You can’t overthrow the government on a work day

CNN just played a video of an officer being crushed in a door by the mob(other officers behind him). Why were none of these rioters shot under such conditions?

That video of the officer being chased up the stairs by a mob. Why didn’t he start shooting?

Aren’t they supposed to be all at church that day?

Interesting poll. On the good side it seems that the proportion of Republicans who supported the attackers has dropped significantly from what it was a day or two ago. Presumably there has been enough negative press about it that the Republicans are beginning to see the writing on the wall that oppenly supporting sedition might be a bit of a faux pas.

On the mores disturbing side, all parties seem to agree that the issues that divide our nation are a serious threat to Democracy (85% of Democrats, 86% of Republicans, 77% Independents.) But while 85% of Democrats think our democracy is likely to survive, only 63% of Republicans and 69% of Independents do. Which means as far as they are concerned there is nothing left to lose.

I’ll just say it: Osama Bin Laden defeated the United States of America…first while hiding in a cave, and then from beyond the grave.

He defeated us, by making us defeat ourselves, by forcing us to fundamentally appeal to the worst of what we are.
