What I was referring to, is unlike most of the protests this summer and most large public events, there weren’t any network reporters covering the STOP THE STEAL insurrection.
me ranting at a Republican on TV :::: enough already, quit making excuses, this “not technically illegal” crap is what got us to where we are now. Nobody’s claiming he said “Break down the doors of the Capitol and lynch Mike Pence”. He invited 250,000 people to STOP THE STEAL and told them to go to the location of “the steal” and stop it.
By the way, read that last sentence again, consider that we knew everything in it at least three weeks ago and tell me the government isn’t complicit. This isn’t just the President refusing to leave, it’s the entire outgoing administration (except for the ones that jumped ship.)
No government agency has given a press conference, answered any questions or made any substantive statement, which is starting to smack of complicity.
Who’s supposed to be speaking in that line, the ObL character who doesn’t like Americans? Or is it an American who doesn’t like the Islamist terrorists? Kinda necessary information to get the tone right.
Has this been vetted by a reliable fact checker? Fate is rarely that on-point.
There are photos floating around of the woman holding the flag earlier in the day, but no one seems clear about whether she was holding it when trampled.
Breaking into the Capitol with the intent of holding mock trials and hanging the VP and members of Congress-What do you think would be commensurate with those crimes?

I’ve been outside feeding the birds and trying to lure in a Tortoiseshell who we saw over the summer with kittens. I’m hoping my Calico would accept a female cat. She’s only loved the neutered males she grew up with (RIP Link and Gannon) over the years. Intact and then neutered males… nope.
Acceptance or not if that Tortie comes inside… she’ll be speutered.

What I think is that you look at each case individually, and actually establish what the intent was. If you can establish that this was, in fact, the intention of some of the people who entered the building, I imagine that there are charges that would reflect those circumstances. But you need, also, to establish that the intent was sincere and not hyperbolic on the part of each person concerned. Saying someone “should be hung” for being a traitor or an anti-Trumper or whatever is not the same as an actual intent to kill that person.
I’m not sure how many people ended up inside the building. It was at least hundreds, and may have been thousands, but I’ll bet that a significant portion of them were just idiots following the crowd. You can see from the video clips and pictures that some of them are surprised as all hell to actually be inside the building, and are treating it more like a caper than an attack.
That doesn’t mean it wasn’t serious, and all of these people should be charged based on their actions. But it also doesn’t mean that they should all be charged with conspiracy to commit murder, or with seditious insurrection.
Since the actions themselves are so horrendous— people dying, the Capitol vandalized — many of us are (understandably) losing sight of the stated PURPOSE behind this insurrection. It was to PREVENT THE RESULTS OF AN ELECTION. It was SPECIFICALLY to end American democracy.
Lest we forget, Trump’s calls to the Georgia election officials the day before were already being discussed (correctly) as grounds for immediate impeachment, removal, and even criminal conviction thereafter.
This was a coordinated effort by his self-appointed minions to carry out this same goal.
But if they had succeeded in dragging Mike Pence out and hanging him from those gallows, you can bet that all those people who were “just idiots following the crowd” would have been cheering and laughing.
