No, it doesn’t mandate it, I don’t see how an Executive Order could do that - separation of powers and all that. It states that it is U.S. policy to prosecute to the fullest extent possible, and notes that the maximum sentence under existing legislation is 10 years.
It is the policy of the United States to prosecute to the fullest extent permitted under Federal law, and as appropriate, any person or any entity that destroys, damages, vandalizes, or desecrates a monument, memorial, or statue within the United States or otherwise vandalizes government property. The desire of the Congress to protect Federal property is clearly reflected in section 1361 of title 18, United States Code, which authorizes a penalty of up to 10 years’ imprisonment for the willful injury of Federal property.
I think it does give the Feds some ammunition to put pressure on people to talk, perhaps it will help in the identification of the most serious criminals.
Well, come on - I hope you’re not really suggesting that people should go to prison for 10 years for vandalism, as a way to circumvent due process.
Maybe some of them should go to prison for 10 years, but then we need to actually prosecute them for a crime for which that kind of sentence is appropriate.
Well, I think that would be very stupid indeed. But it certainly would be scheudenfreudy if these folks faced that very punishment… when it was actually their very own Dear Leader who was pushing for that for “other people”.
I guess they did not think the leopards would eat their face.
No, I think that’s what Trump was going for with his asinine executive order, trying to get 10 years in jail for the crime of painting a slogan on a wall.
I guess my point completely evaded you. I’ll try to be more direct next time.
If someone posts pictures and videos of themselves in the middle of a huge jostling crowd not wearing a mask, that alone should put them on a no fly list until they can show a negative COVID test.
I should explain that. I’m seeing that the NG was requested to respond by the DC mayor, but since DC is not a state, that request had to go through the federal government, which is Trump’s lackeys now.
I’m less pessimistic at this point. I’m astonished at how the FBI are rounding all these fuckers up so quickly. They don’t seem to be dragging their heels. And then it will be the DOJ under Biden. If Trump doesn’t get away with pardoning them, I think they are in trouble.
Bullshit. We have HD video’ of this shit. This was the point I was trying to make about the rule of law. Everyone can see that these people are being treated differently. We all know that if it was anybody other than white people they would be facing some serious charges right now.
This is a huge problem. If these assholes can get away with sacking the US Capital and only face a year in jail, and in my state you don’t go to prison for less than a year you go to jail, then way should anyone worry about anything.
People are doing more time for pot than these people are looking at.
