Valar Hiatus: The Game of Thrones offseason thread

Is he heir to Dragonstone now, or how does that work? All I can tell is that bastards don’t inherit over trueborn sons, but someone’s got to inherit and I imagine the lords of the Stormlands really don’t want Tommen as ruler considering they’ve been traitors to King’s Landing for the last few years.

Tommen would definitely be the legal heir, but whether he could claim it or would spare the forces to claim it is another matter. I’m wondering if Davos might make a claim (purely by right of conquest).

The Stormlands are ruled from Storm’s End not Dragonstone.

Right, I got them mixed up since Stannis kept talking about Dragonstone all the time. Still though, who gets it?

It’s going to be interesting to see what he and Melisandre will do now, but I don’t think the lords are going to fall into line behind a hedge knight.

The actor who plays Jaime is in a funny new Apple TV ad: http://www.cultofmac.com/419738/apple-tv-is-a-tool-of-seduction-in-hilarious-new-ad/

Some photos from the new season released. A little spoilery, but not TOO much, I’d say: HBO releases new photos from 'Game of Thrones' Season 6 - cleveland.com

Forgive me if this may have been hashed over already but having to wait for the discs, I’ve come late to the party.

What derailed the Stannis Express to the Iron Throne? Stannis was an early convert to the Red God and it seemed sincere. Melisandre kept telling him he needed to be the sole person in charge of the continent when the Long Night arrives and was equally sincere. Stan did what he was told, sacrificing bannermen and even his own daughter on the pyre, yet all that came of it was to be lured into a fight he could not possibly win.

With the other events of the season this leaves the bulk of Westeros in the hands of a young, weak ruler who, along with his advisors, doesn’t really believe what is about to befall them from the north. Mel kept telling Stan she had visions of his success and I believe she did see them — she was genuinely shocked at Stan’s position after the melt.

So why would the Red God inveigle his most powerful priestess and adherent into disaster? Perhaps hailing from east Essos, he doesn’t really believe the Long Night will happen either.

Mind you, I’d personally like to see the Red Woman get a taste of the own medicine — death by fire is the purest death — right alongside that Bolton kid.

You’re assuming that there is actually a Red God and he actually is interested in and capable of giving Stannis exactly the advice he needs to accomplish X goals?

There are those who think Mel’s vision was correct generally but wrong in the specifics. Like which Baratheon is the one true king. Which leads us straight into Jon’s parentage.

What if a lot of people’s theory about Mel bringing back Jon is correct? How are they going to sell that to the unsullied without Lady Stoneheart to foreshadow?

Prophecies are fickle things. Bringing balance to the Force sounds nice until you realize in involves slaughtering a lot of younglings.

Well, somebody fed Mel those visions, unless they were just 'shrooms, and there’s the little matter of Thors rezzing Beric a number of times. I’d say there’s at least as much evidence of the Red God as there is of The Seven or the Old Gods of the Forest, or any of the other minor deities cluttering up the place.

That’s evidence that magic exists. That is not proof that everything a red priest says is true. They might be mistaken regarding the source or nature of their abilities.

Well, the name of the series is “a Song of Ice and Fire”, and seeing as Ice exists as an actual magical force (embodied in the White Walkers), it’s a reasonable assumption that Fire exists as well - especially as they have parallel capabilities, e.g. bringing the dead back to life. Whether or not Fire is personified in the form of a “Red God” is a different question.

They have Beric Dondarrion and Thoros of Myr, whom she actually met and learned about the resuscitation from unlike the book.

That’s how I see it. And, as noted, prophecies can be misinterpreted, partially wrong or flat-out wrong.

Lol, I was watching the skit and my wife walked by:

“Wow, it’s cool how they do all that CGI stuff”

No, it’s definite. Although he’s not The Mountain anymore, he goes by Robert Strong now.

I’ve insisted on it before, and I’ll say it again: CleganeBowl is 100% happening.

That Arya photo! Thought for a second they cast her as an extra in The Walking Dead.

I think Jon Snow is living with the Russian guy from the Sopranos.

In case Jon really is dead, it’s nice to know he has other career options: http://www.theperfumegirl.com/perfumes/fragrances/jimmy-choo/jimmy-choo-man/images/jimmy-choo-man-fragrances-lg.jpg
