You probably don’t need to be a Targaryen when you’re the Night King, riding a dragon you personally raised from the dead.
From Tyrion to… Tattoo?!?: My Dinner with Hervé (TV Movie 2018) - IMDb
Lots of different people used to ride dragons before the fall of Valyria. The Targaryens are just the only ones that went over to Westeros.
Do we really know that? I thought that era is pretty much lost to history. I don’t remember Martin ever writing that dragon-riding was common at all, let alone by non-Targaryens.
Bran and he look vaguely alike and the Night Kings broach emblem looks like a tower to me.
Seems too convulated to me.
IIRC, only Valyrians could ride Dragons (there were the ones who domesticated them in the first place), and the Freehold of Valyria had shown no interest in Westeros before the Doom. It seems unlikely to me that some random Valyrian could have ended up in the North and turned into the Night King, but I guess anything can happen.
Anyway, it’s a moot point: only Valyrians could ride dragons because *living *dragons would not allow anyone else to ride them. The Night King’s dragon is a zombie under his control - it has no choice other to obey him.
In the background “history” books that GRRM put out, occasionally a non Valyrian would tame a dragon.
I’ve read those too, and IIRC, all those people came from places like Dragonstone and King’s Landing, where plenty of Targaryan genes had trickled down into the general population.
Me likey!
Hmm, it’s certainly an interesting trailer. I’m torn about the last season though. Very excited to see how everything will end, but I’ve always thought the most interesting parts were the characters and politics. I think this season will be much more action heavy.
Regarding the Night King being a Stark: people from other places on the internet might have a more diverse set of information that they’re basing that theory on. There are youtube videos on the subject if you’re not afraid of possible spoilers/contamination.
I cant breathe! Cant breathe!
If this show doesn’t end with Brienne and Tormund killing sixteen enemies apiece and then catching sight of each other across a bloody battlefield as they slowly walk toward each other and tear off their armor…I shall be very Put Out.
Oh, yeah. Those two kids have to get together. And survive the end credits.
The only thing we can be sure of is that by the end of Episode 6, the body count will be staggering.
My list of people I’m fairly sure will live through it is: Arya, Tyrion.
The only one I’m certain of is Sam.
Trailer was cool, and I’ll look at one of those fine-tooth synopses later as it didn’t look like much new. But it looks like Jon’s about to ride a dragon.
Edit: no pun intended.
The trailer did show us that Tormund and Beric survived The Wall coming down.
I feel like this season is just going to be a couple episodes of build up towards a big climatic battle, dealing with Cerseis betrayal and the inevitable bitter sweet ending. I put Jamie and Cersei as the only significant deaths.
Apparently George’s wife has threatened to divorce him if he kills off Arya.
She must know David Weber’s wife.
