Valar Hiatus: The Game of Thrones offseason thread

Halfway paying attention to Downton in the background while while the SO is watching it, I feel like there are many actors I am expected to recognize. I really don’t, even if the names are familiar. But one who popped out immediately is Iain Glen aka Jorah Mormont, in a few episodes.

Woot! Got season two DVDs. Will make some popcorn and watch an episode or two friday night.

Season Three Trailer.

It’s only one minute, but we must make do with what we can get.

Pretty solid. It hits on a lot of the big events without giving much away.

Episode titles are out:
Ep. 301 – Valar Dohaeris
Ep. 302 – Dark Wings, Dark Words
Ep. 303 – Walk of Punishment
Ep. 304 – And Now His Watch is Ended
Ep. 305 – Kissed by Fire
Ep. 306 – to be determined
Ep. 307 – The Bear and the Maiden Fair
Ep. 308 – to be determined
Ep. 309 – The Rains of Castamere
Ep. 310 – Mhysa

Ooh, Ooh! So it does look we get to The Red Wedding this season. In typical 9th episode climax fashion. Also happy to see The Bear and the Maiden Fair making an appearance. I wonder if they’ll use the Irish Moutarde verision.

And I was hoping one of the episodes would be titled “the episode in which we meet Strong Belwas” :frowning:

Who/What is Mhysa? It’s not something I’m familiar with.

It’s Ghiscari for “mother.”

How dare they not include Strong Belwas! Strong Belwas will kill them then eat liver and onions.

Oooooooh. Now I know where they are ending the season.

Remind me again…?

Freeing the slaves in Astapor. The slaves call her Mysha.

I think we’ll see the following scenes:

Mormont being killed in ep. 4, Ygritte/Jon and the Beric vs Hound fight in ep 5, Jaime rescuing Brienne from the bear pit in ep. 7, and the Red Wedding in ep. 9. I think it’s possible we’ll see unCat in ep. 10, since she’s a mother too, but I hope not.

I just had to share this webcomic from a couple days ago:

Pretty much you get to choose what category you are in. Which is why hour-long dramas often are nominated for “best comedy”.

Peter is pretty good, yes, but HBO knows he hasn’t a chance in hell of winning “best actor” but has a real shot at “supporting”.

I’m not going to pop the DVD in to check, but isn’t Dinklage billed as a prestigious “and” or “with,” à la Andy Rooney? And IIRC he got a credits upgrade in season 2. And of course, the series really lacks a lead actor. Tyrion and Ned (for a time) are obvious choices. Others like Jaime, maybe. Really, it just shows the awards are part bunk.

If there ever is/was a poll thread about your favorite character, Tyrion should not be included in the poll because it’s the “well no duh, who else?” answer.

I rarely argue when I come here as doing so is usually puerile, but I have issue with the statement, “Peter [Dinklage] is pretty good…” He owns every scene he is in. His character is arguably the most complex and interesting of the dozens to choose from in Mr. Martin’s panoramic epic. The casting for this series has been outstanding, but the choice of Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister was truly inspired.

“Pretty good?”
I’ll see your ‘pretty good’ and raise you a ‘pretty darned good’.
So there.
Hope I wasn’t too harsh in my rhetoric.

Sure, I’ll buy “pretty darned good” no problem, but still, the role doesn’t have the ummph for HBO to risk trying for Best Actor.

I think Episode 7 will also have Sansa’s conversation with the Tyrells.
