Valar Hiatus: The Game of Thrones offseason thread

A GOT reference in the Michigan kidnap-the-governor plot - see the next-to-last paragraph:

I for sure thought it was gonna be how bottom left guy is part gnome or something.

Sophie Turner to be in HBO series about a local NC murder case. There was already a documentary on this case

House of the Dragon is out August 21

The thread for that: House of the Dragon, an HBO prequel series to Game of Thrones

Is everyone planning to watch? I guess I will, but in the exact same way that I will also watch last Fall’s The Walking Dead, then Fear The Walking Dead, then that world of Walking Dead or whatever, and now there’s the new Spring final season of the Walking Dead, all of which are currently clogging up my DVR. I’m pretty sure I’m going to watch them all, but man I’m not looking forward to it.

I’m planning to wait for reviews. I still like Martin, but the last season of GoT left me very underwhelmed. If reviews are glowing, or at least pretty good, I’ll give it a shot.

If not I might still try it eventually some day when I’m bored, but I won’t rush.

Aha!

I dun wan it.

I don’t know but three years later after a bit of a disaster of a last season, it strikes me it’s a bit late to have a butt-load of spinoffs.

It’s like someone saying “Are you excited for the new Lost spinoff featuring Hurley?”

Similar deal with Avatar. Seems to be a thing in Hollywood lately.

I guarantee you that House of the Dragon is going to be massive. Which will help jumpstart any other spinoffs.

I think there’s a decent chance it will be a success. Not sure if massive though, the world is a bit tainted now.

I’d be shocked if the premier, at least, didn’t get over 5mil viewers.

I want to disagree with you, but I’ll probably be watching so I can’t.

I wouldn’t mind an Arya spinoff, her future adventures seem like they would be a lot more interesting that whatever dumb bullshit Jon is going to do.

Agreed. Jon always was the stupidest character. An Adventures With Arya spinoff could be cool. “Wagon Train to the Unknown Lands” sort of deal.

Agreed.

I don’t think there are nearly that many people who’ll want to watch Boris Johnson.

I dunno, if there’s a chance that Boris is going to be poisoned or toasted by a dragon, the entire nation will be on the edge of their seats.

I think any spinoff series will get massive hype and viewership early on. But if it turns out to be nothing more than weak dialogue and spectacle battles, fans will turn very quickly. A lot of goodwill was flushed down the toilet during the second half of GOT’s run, especially seasons 7 and 8.
