Vanilla is an ignorant bitch.

You’re in your prime, Monty, the full flower of your manhood. You’re a grown man, no longer a callow youth, but certainly no alter kocker either.

Happy birthday!

I think the key words was “Based on your comments”. Monty seemed to be saying that while may Vanillia had read the bible, she couldn’t have studied it/her comments were unchristian.

Yeah, but he called her a liar for saying seemingly the exact same thing that he says she said. I’m so confused!

Ok, lets review. In the other thread, Vanilla says bad stuff about Mormons and that Monty is ignorant of the bible.

Monty says he has read the bible.

Vanilla then says, “So you read the Bible a lot. I dunno what that proves. I read the whole thing every (about) two months.”

Monty then says, “Well based on your comments in the thread, you read it, but I study it”

Then, we come to this thread. Lucki’s rant has backfired, and people are coming to the defense of Vanilla. Vanilla, then, to add to the litany of wrongs done her says:

[q]When I said I read the Bible, Monty chimes in to say “You read it, but I study it.”
Obviously, No proof is provided for this arrogant statement.
Pride goeth before a fall[/q]

That’s when Monty calls her a liar.

From my reading, he’s objecting to the way she’s representing his statement in the other thread. Her comment makes it seem that he’s just arrogantly and pridefully saying “I study the bible”, with no context. He’s saying, “You’re lying, representing what I said to you that way without context”

Shit Monty, I want you as my pharmacist.

and happy birthday

vanilla dear, I’m also much impressed by your restraint.

Thank you for admiring my restraint.
Hey, if someone wants to e mail me(someone mentioned earlier they would like to change my mind on Potter thing) go ahead. I am open to opinion.
Gobear: you talk so much like a christian, are you Sure you not just pretending to be an unbeliever?

Oh my!!!
This is TOO weird, Monty.
I will be 43 on Monday, the 26th.
My long lost brother! LOL
Well Happy Birthday, you old geezer…

Hang on. Twins separated by 6 days? Somebody call the Guinness Book of Records!

Vanilla:

How about we commence with just ignoring Coldfire? Coldy’s comment deserves no more!

Seriously, though, perhaps now that you knoow that not only are we of an age together, but I’m actually older than you (by a week & presumably a couple of hours since I was born in Europe), you see the mistake of using dismissive terms to describe people.

“Young man,” the way you used it, was meant to be condescenting. So was the your choice of words when you refer to Mormons a lot of times on this board. “You cultists,” etc. Those are all dismissive. That’s pretty much why I called you the b-word in the one thread that I did that and I believe you know that’s exactly why I did.

Here’s a fair deal, IMHO: we’ll both quit using dismissive terms. How about it?

Yes, it is. Why? Because witchcraft, as vanilla defines the word, does not exist. Sure, there are people who think they are casting real spells and making things happen through chants and making potions and all the other whatnot, but they really aren’t.

I don’t know who’s sillier: Christians who think magic is real or the witches who do.

Actually, I’m still waiting for vanilla to back up her original claim that HP was written with the deliberate intention of getting kids to practice witchcraft. Many people have pointed out that she kind of weaselled out of that one, and thus far I don’t see her even acknowledging people’s complaints.

So, vanilla, do you still maintain that J.K. Rowling wrote the HP books as a deliberate attempt to spread witchcraft among children? If so, why do you believe that?

-Ben

Yeah, but he called her a liar for saying seemingly the exact same thing that he says she said. I’m so confused! **

I couldn’t see any difference either, so you’re not alone.

I would email you, but you’ve evidently got that option turned off in your profile

This isn’t necessarily to change your mind or anything, but just in the spirit of putting forward some information.

First, Harry Potter is no more an introduction to Wicca than Nancy Drew was an introduction to police work, or Biggles an introduction to a modern air force. It bears no relation to any Wiccan or neo-pagan practice I’ve ever seen.

Second, some kids might end up playing at being wizards, but I used to play at being Princess from G Force, or other cartoon, comic book or book characters that excited my imagination. Temporary fun, and certainly no basis for future plans.

Third, the Narnia Chronicles (written by devout Christian, C.S. Lewis) were high on my list of favourites when I was a kid (and yes, I did understand the parallels between Aslan and Christ; I was raised Catholic, and Lewis all but hits you over the head with it). Childhood reading isn’t necessarily a reliable indicator of one’s future religious choices.

Vanilla’s home page has a link to the James Randi Educational Foundation. Can’t think of too many people, other than Cecil, who have devoted as much time to fighting ignorance than him.

I don’t want to get all caught up in the fray, but I do want to say this:
vanilla says that she has read Harry Potter and that she doesn’t think it’s appropriate for her kids. That’s her choice. She stated that opinion here. I don’t think she has to justify that to anyone.

Not everything in life is a huge debate. Sometimes you have an opinion and that’s that. I know by posting it on a message board she should expect to be called out about it, but at the same time I think she has the right to say “That’s what I think- end of story”. (Unless it’s a Great Debate).

Monty: Young man is meant as a cute thing for me to say (usually to old men) heh heh.
Okay, no more words about Mormons from me ever.
Peace.
And to think, a little ditwad like Lucki caused all this peace to break out…

I will get the tape to find out why my former church http://www.myredeemerlives.com thinks its an intro to spells 101.

I do not know, Ben, if Rowling purposely intended it to be so. Maybe I should say then, that it most definitely could gives kids an interest in the occult, which I say is a bad thing.

My e addresss is orangecakes@yahoo.com

Everyone have a good and pig-out Thanksgiving.

Me too. I used to plan to live under the ocean with Aquaman. I’m still a bit disappointed.

I second this recommendation, vanilla. If you get the chance, read the Narnia books and see what you think. They’re fun for most kids, and the books do emphasize Christian behavior and values. You may have a different opinion of them than you did the Harry Potter series.

Maybe Fenris came come here and make me a song I Am Not A Bitch-O to the tune of I Am Not A Bimbo (done by Victoria Jackson on snl)

Victoria Jackson, if I remember correctly, is also a very christian woman. Maybe Vanilla is Victoria Jackson.
peace,
JB

Maybe the Ukulele Lady has two separate email address and websites.

I could only Wish I looked like Victoria Jackson.

And thanks to all who came to my defense.
The chocolate is in the mail…
