It’s been a lazy Saturday here at ReboVille. We were supposed to go to the races today, but a big cold front blew in. We’re halfway through, it’s still blowing and raining, and the temp has dropped 10 degrees, with a low in the frickin’ high 30’s tonight! Brr. I say winter should be done! All week it was so nice, sunny and in the 70’s.
I’m about to go get the first load of clothes out of the dryer. And I defrosted the big chest freezer, took inventory of the contents, and repacked it. I’ve got a lot of meat! I’m always buying stuff in the about-to-expire discount bin.
Ahhhhh I am headed towards the same state Haze is…I am 2 glasses of wine in after a productive day. I grocery shopped, scrubbed the bathroom, 3 loads of laundry, changed the sheets on the bed, dusted, took a nap, flirted with my husband a bit on the phone, talked to my parents, took a shower and gave myself a mani pedi and I am currently waiting on a baked potato to finish cooking so I can eat supper hence me being on the secodn glass of wine.
Other than that not much going on…movies tomorrow and try on wedding outfit methinks.
Did you make the monkey bread? Recipe recommendation? My nephew was disappointed that there wasn’t any at Great Harvest that last time we went, so I thought we’d make some the next time he’s here.
Back from the park. Have walked around the garden and gotten inspired. I’m in gardening clothes and ready to go out and clean the place up. Woooooohooooo!!!
Probably has to do with the fact that it’s grey and cloudy and cool outside… after all that sunshine, my body probably decided this meant winter was back and is trying to slip into hibernation mode once more.
The Boy and I spent much of the day in the yard trying to get everything ready for spring. The peach trees have been pruned and sprayed, the mulberry has been cut back to little stumpy bits, and . Tomorrow I shall get my 'mater seeds started up… we’re doing five different varieties this year - I have Garden Peach, Mr Stripey, Black Krim, Hillbilly and Yellow Baby Plum varieties. I also bought a packet of physalis seeds, which I’m rather looking forward to trying out.
Dinner with my dad and his wife tonight. We’re going to my favourite little French bistro, so it should be quite nice.
'Ullo, all. Am back from running mega-errands, but still need to get one thing (meds).
I made peanut butter chocolate cupcakes straight outta Martha Stewart’s cupcake recipe book. Eh, they’re ok. I did (of course) make some modifications. I’m much to lazy to post the recipe.
It’s cold and raw here today with sleet/snow, but none of it is sticking. I have crocuses, scylla and snowdrop in bloom. That snowdrop is singular–I used to have about ten plants and there is one left. So much for the whole “snowdrops will take over your garden!” marketing ploy. :dubious: [del]They are[/del] It is pretty.
I have other things to say, but they’re not very nice, so I won’t.
I just make a butter/brown sugar/cinnamon mix with a little water, and use whatever bread dough we’ve got. This time it was with chocolate chip raisin pecan bread, which is YUM. Layer syrup and dough chunks.
Smitten Kitchen’s recipe is very good, but I found rolling the bits of dough in cinnamon sugar tedious.
OK, back with a bit more time to post. I actually slept in till almost 7, then **FCD **and I got cleaned up and ran to the hardware store for the lag bolts we forgot last night. Then we stopped for a quick McBreakfast and had a real laugh - the section where we sat was all old people - we were the kids in the room!! By the time we got home, daughter was up, and in short order, she joined us in the yard. She and I prepared the support beams and cut the joists to size. By the time she left (she, SIL, and their friends had plans for the day) we had 2 joists in place, and **FCD **and I were checking everything for square and level.
We had a little lunch break, the kids took off, and my sweetie and I installed the lag bolts, put up the rest of the joists, and attached the end plank. We also put two of the deck boards in place, just to see how they looked. Then we cleaned up and quit. I’m going to visit my mom tomorrow, but the rest of them will put the deck boards on. We put all the tools in the garage, then hit the shower. And just a little bit ago, we got back from Bert’s, where we had a quick supper.
We’re in chill mode, now. I’m going to assume the knitting position soon. I’m beat. My feet hurt the worst - guess I need to throw the shoes I wore away. They are pretty old and beat up.
Just like rosie, we’re expecting T-storms on Monday. So much for getting the siding installed…
Thus endeth my Saturday. You won’t see me till later on Sunday, so don’t fret. I’ll pop in when I get home from Mom’s.
Man, I’ve felt lazy today. Okay, I moved into my parents’ house last night for spring break. Mom and I were lazy (and in pain) and didn’t go to taijitsu this morning. I finished emptying my car and set up my room and my computer - after blowing my keyboard and computer out with the air compressor. I had hairballs in my keyboard. Seriously, it types totally differently now. And I could recognize which cats it was from too. Not the ones I live with at the moment.
I also ran to the grocery store, worked on a paying gig, and did some homework. Not as much as I wanted to, but I spent half an hour or so fiddling with the computer over a stupid font thing. Oh, and helped mom with three loads of laundry.
The story so far:
My vacation was cut in half, since half my store is sick. On the bright side, I did get monumentally inebriated on St. Patrick’s Day, and a girl gave me her phone number.
Nice deck start, FCM.
TNC 2.0, come out and plaly!
Smokey come home!
swampy, glad your priest saw the error of his ways.
So, last night I went to go see some friends play at a bar (they’re part of a band). Ever since Irish Boyfriend left I’ve been pretty much staying at home (or being with family) so I figured going out and having some fun would be good for me.
There’s a co-worker of mine I shall call Hungover Artist - guy from Canada who’s into literature and films but half the time shows up to work hungover - who’s also good friends with Irish Boyfriend. Hungover Artist and I met up with another guy (also friends with the boyfriend, henceforth known as Inappropriate Canadian) and we went to go see the gig together. It started late because of a bunch of complications (among them being that the drummer had been hit by a car the night before; he showed up bruised and bandaged) but once the band got started the crowd loved them.
While the band was playing I notcied Hungover Artist and Inappropriate Canadian downing shots every other song or so. Now, Inappropriate Canadian is a rather robust lad but Hungover Artist is a rather skinny fellow, so by the end of the performance Inappropriate Canadian was pleasantly drunk while Hungover Arists was off his tits, as the boyfriend would say. Completely drunk, unable to stand up properly, he eventually collapsed in tears on my shoulder and confessed his love for my best friend from work (keyboard player in the band). He was making such a scene that I could sense the bouncers eyeing us, so with the help of the Bass Player (also mutual friend) and Inappropriate Canadian we dragged him outside, where it took another 20 minutes to convince him to let us walk him home.
Except he didn’t want to go home, he wanted to go to McDonalds. Once there, he kept babbling to me about his undying love for the Keyboard Player while sloppily devouring a Big Mac. He then became belligerent and starting knocking over our drinks, complaining that he wanted to go home. I had been amused up til then but when he knocked my drink into my lap I really had to fight the urge to slap him. I did tell him to shut the fuck up. Eventually we sent him on his way and went home ourselves. I didn’t realize how drunk I was until I tried to write an email to Irish boyfriend - it took me 10 minutes to compose a coherent paragraph.
I don’t mind getting drunk, even rip-roaring drunk every once in a while, but honestly that boy does this on a weekly basis and it’s frankly quite sad. He really needs a good slap.
Anyway. Spending my Sunday recovering from last night’s fiasco.
It’s 4 a.m. and I’m awake! I accidentally took a 9 hour nap and woke up at about 3. It was a long day at the auctions, though, with lots of heavy lifting.
Not sure what’s in store for today other than probably some paperwork and pricing out recipes. I’ve got a potential client that’s interested in buy some desserts from me wholesale. He’s already tasted my stuff and is just waiting for a price list on Monday. (He’s out of town until Monday, I’m not a total slacker. :p)
Right now TVMan is attempting to revive my one purchase at the auctions. It’s a 1956 Zenith Bug Eye portable tv. Apparently the heater for the picture tube isn’t cooperating. This is a bad thing. Hopefully he can fix it instead of us having to look for another tube.
Morning, mumpers! I am typing this very quietly in caseHaze, Swampy and ems are suffering today! I had a quiet evening, watched a film and had a little bit of vodka but not much as I really wasn’t feeling that good.
Today I am not feeling much better than yesterday but I have very little planned for the day. I need to cook some pasta to use for lunches on Monday and Tuesday, plus I am planning to make a cottage pie for dinner tonight and tomorrow. Today’s lunch will be leftover beef bourguignon from last night, probably with a jacket spud. Breakfast will be grapefruit followed by yummy toast. The toast will be extra yummy because I have just got hold of a jar of the new extra-strong Marmite which is supposed to be four times stronger than the normal stuff. In fact, I’d better get on with that now!
I’m so chipper right now that sunshine is squirting out my ass, and the sun ain’t even up yet. I’m getting ready for services at St. Bluegills this morning, the first time this year.
Got my license and worms yesterday, new bobbers last week. Now I need uglify (well, NOT purtify) and get my tackle loaded up.
