Video Banner Ads that lock your scroll onto them

What the heck is with the new banner ads that I can’t scroll past?

Whenever I try to scroll down to read a thread, my window immediately re-centers on the top of the thread while the video banner plays. I have to wait for the ad to finish before being able to scroll down. On one reply page, the video kept looping and I wasn’t able to actually write my reply.

The add on this page tried to load a bunch of times, and Chrome just now gave me a message that Shockwave Flash has crashed.

Incredible garbage.

Over the past month or two, I’ve regularly had ads here on the SDMB completely lock up my browser, and occasionally cause the browser to crash entirely (I use Firefox).

I totally understand the need for ads to support the board, but a significant proportion of the ads are badly-engineered junk.

I’ve gotten pretty good at hitting View Source, Select Element, and Delete Element

So don’t keep us in the dark…what browser, and what keycodes?

For Chrome:
F12 or Ctrl-shift-i to open Developer Tools
Ctrl-shift-c or click upper-left icon to enable select element
mouseover unwanted element; click to select and jump to html line
right-click to open options, select Delete Element.

Flash video ads are out of control on this web site.

For Firefox users:

On any page on this web site, right click in some blank area.
Select “View Page Info.”
Click on the “Permissions” tab.
Next to “Adobe Flash” click on “Always Ask.”

It will block all flash content on this web site. If, for some reason, you ever want to watch a flash video while on this site, just click on the video. You will get a notification in the upper left corner of the browser. Click on “Allow.”
