Wait just a dang minute. Bad bad bad Ms. Beck-brain, we gotta talk

The good news keeps piling up. Yay. Both you and Jojo keep on the mend please.

message from the vet tech

She was kinda worried about Jojo.
He seemed super sleepy to her. She got him out let him wander around. Apparently he perked up a bit.

He’s going back to surgery (#4) to put a drain in his neck.
And a another roto-rooter therapy. That crud needs to get out of him.
I feel like this is gonna turn the page. It seems so pervasive. Just nasty infection.
I need you all to cross fingers for him.

Poor JoJo, yet more surgery!

But good vet, who is paying attention!

Fingers crossed.

Oh, dear. I sure hope things improve for him.

What’s the “roto-rooter therapy”?

Cleaning out his absesses.

I’m not sure how they do it. I assume they just dig it out and let it run.

Oh, man. I just grossed my self out the back door.

Ewwwww

Ah. Maybe a water pick like device to flush them out, then?

Poor baby. On the one hand, he must be feeling a lot of relief already. On the other, the process sounds pretty painful.

I’m SO crossing my fingers.
Abscess treatment on humans consist of putting gauze in to act like a wick and letting it heal from the bottom. A cat would probably pull the wick out and eat it too. Opening, cleaning and dusting with something sterilizing, I guess.

Holy cats!

And often oral antibiotics to be given for some time afterwards. And sometimes soaking the wound will help keep it draining.

– I did once bring a cat home with a sort of rubber or plastic tube tied through a bad abscess to keep it open. That was somewhere around 40 years ago, though; I don’t know whether that technique’s still in use. I have a couple of times since had cats with abscesses that needed veterinary care, but those didn’t have anything left in the wound; just opened, cleaned, and antibiotics afterwards at home.

But I’ve never dealt with a cat in the shape poor JoJo’s in. His system’s trying to heal multiple problems at once.

The vet did that for one of my cats about 12 years ago (abscesses due to botflies laying eggs inside his back).

Oh, god. The botfly rears his ugly head again!!

:scream:Aaaaccckkk!

The Vet called after Jojo woke up from surgery. He said Jojo was looking a bunch better.

He did say this is not a chronic thing. So all improvement is a good sign.

He thinks he’ll have to reclean it and put a new drain, probably twice more.

Again, he’s just truly amazed how Jojo is doing and his apparent good nature.
All the vet techs love him.

I ask him for a time line. He said when I go home Jojo can be released the same day. He said not to worry he’s not charging me for anymore
boarding fees.

I’m glad Jojo came through surgery and is looking better. Keeping my fingers crossed for further improvement both his and yours.

Whew. I’ve been worrying.

That is a very nice vet!

– although, he probably doesn’t get very many customers who will pay vet. bills for and give a home to a cat in JoJo’s condition. Probably he’s thinking that you are a very nice cats’ person.

Which you are. And I think he’s going to be a great cat.

Oh I’m so glad to hear that! You just haven’t been having a great time of it, lately. :frowning:
:hugs: to you and Jojo.

@nelliebly, said, Clarence the possum might have sent Jojo to me.
Sounds legit to me.

Me, too.

Agreed!

Clarence was never one to waste a good human!

It makes sense, doesn’t it? Clarence recognized that a cat ain’t right and guided him to you, the one person he knew who loves critters straight through their poor, battered bodies to their endearing souls.

Well, it makes sense to me, anyway.
