Waiting for it to Get Light in the MMP

Red, I need glasses to FIND my glasses.
Today I was checking the outside of the Mothership when I stopped dead in my tracks.
I have Crocus in bloom.
Yes, it’s still February.

Howdy Y’all! What a day! Saw the vampires this mornin’, came back to da cave for a bit, then over to the church house to deal with Shrove Tuesday food fixin’. We had a great crowd and plenty of food. I guarantee no one left hongry! 'Twas a good time and looks like we raked in the loot for the Deacon’s discretionary fund. I got home around eight and I’s tahrd.

I read all but retained little, so, yays, boos, hugs, noogies, trouts, chitlins and how you doin’s all around as needed. Oh and welcome Miss Owl! Come by and play with us a lot, OK?

I am shortly off to beddy bye. I need to be up early tomorrow to go assist with Ashes To Go. Starts at seven in the a. of m.

The thyme and rosemary on my patio never went dormant this winter. The peppermint is already putting out new shoots. Not much of a winter, so to speak.

Glad you’re here. Fair warning: this bunch does not stay on any one topic for long, and silliness is rampant.

Ex-CUSE me, but I get any white chocolate and will share the milk chocolate. Dark is all hers.

Hockey game was bad, and the 3 guys next to me talked about business, not hockey(That’s what the 200 level is for, not the poor people section!)

She knows about the Tiki Bar?

welcome! And if Ruble never said anything about Carson street in August 2011, it was all Flytrap’s fault.

Boofae, did Mum rent Dirk Gently’s old flat?

My Daffodils are blooming like gangbusters. A little early. But I’m happy to see them.
My 250 (count 'em, my sick butt planted them things) tulips oughta be showing by the time I get outta the horsepital.
Can’t wait!

Planted parsley last year, which never really came up. It’s coming up now, along with the chives, peppermint and crocus.

And there’s daffydills blooming at work. Should have cut the grass when it was warm, we got sleet last night. Le sigh.

Blurf.

We got the first daffydils back in December. Partly because where I irk used to be a daffodil breeding centre, before the skool took the site over, and they kept a load. What with the mild seasons and breeding project leftovers, we get about 4 months of daffodils, and they’re just coming into peak right now.

We have proper signs of spring as well- the wild garlic’s coming out, so I went to pick a bunch yesterday to make pesto. No vampires expected here for a few days.

Got an event after skool today, should be interesting. Busy week, wish I was sleeping better, I feel like I have a head full of cotton wool today.

Welcome, Miss Owl - I hope you enjoy the continued silliness here, it’s definitely a distraction when things don’t look so good out there.

Red, I wasn’t there when the sofa was delivered so I can’t say how it got in, I suspect they had to remove the door but I’m not sure I want to do that. Anyway, council lady has called and said just smash it up and stack it by the bins as it’ll be going to the tip.

Doggio, definitely wasn’t Dirk Gently’s flat, she was upstairs but the sofa never left her living room and certainly didn’t want to get anywhere near the stairs

Another joyous day in academic industrial action land, plus we have students in (and out) of both China and Italy so we have the added bonus of Covid-19 strategy planning. This seems to involve the senior management team in our School having meetings at least three times a day. Fortunately, my office has three people on management grades so we get to attend one meeting each, 'cept one of our number is off today so my boss and I have to cover her meeting too.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 60 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 64 and “occasional” rain showers expected throughout the day whatever that means. :dubious: I hope that holds off at least durin’ Ashes To Go this mornin’. Today involves the above mentioned activity as well as servin’ at the noon Ash Wednesday service. OYKW will take care of the layin’ in of provisions this mornin’. Sup shall be salmon patties, peas, smashed N.O.T., and bizkits just cause 'tis easy and sounds all Lenten like.

Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy demands sustenance. Then, alas, alack, and bother of all bothers, I suppose I should purtify (or purify, or putrefy for those who prefer :p) and don appropriate bein’ about the public attire.

Happy Hump Day Y’all! A blessed Ash Wednesday and Lent to those who observe.

Beck - no chance of me ever getting into any sort of food-related business. My mom did catering after all of us had left home. She really enjoyed it and she did well, but I know how much work it is, and frankly, I don’t like cooking that much! But I do have 3 bags of sketty sauce in the freezer for future meals - it smelled really good!

**Spidey **- you’re partly wrong about Da Barrel - we’ve got one in Waldorf about 12 miles from the DC beltway, and another in California (MD), roughly 46 miles from said Beltway. So they do wander afield.

**Nettie **- I’m not much for dark chocolate, tho it’s OK in small doses. I prefer a good milk chocolate, thanks.

re: daffodils - I think my first ones are about to bloom - maybe today. There are tons of clumps of greenery all over the place - not only daffys, but day lilies, naked ladies, and iris. I’m dying to get out there and start tidying the yard, but it’s still too chilly, and definitely to wet today. But soon, I hope.

I know daughter is disappointed that we didn’t have any white stuff - she was hoping Roxy would have her first snow. Maybe next year…

Today is Wiggle Giggle day at the library. Not sure what else I’ll do - I’m still caffeinating, so not ready to plan. I’ll figure it out as I go along. Indecision is the key to flexibility!

Happy Wednesday!

Do you use cubed steak?

Sounds like a good T-shirt slogan; you ought to copyright it.

Morning all. Did my on-line banking and all the accounts are balanced, so I can spend money knowing that I actually have some. Quick trip to Wal-Mart and the banks and gas up car, but colder (45F) today and cloudy so probably hang about the house the rest of the time.

I do not have a green thumb, so nothing except the grass lawn grows here, and it’s not ready for mowing yet.

Alien, my eyes are like yours, if I knock my glasses off the table in morning I crawl out the other side of the bed so I don’t step on them and get the spare pair on top of the dresser.

All y’all have a brilliant hump day.

Happy Hump Day!

It’s a rainy 46 degrees outside. Supposed to rain all day.

I got the brats off to daycare, and put the first load of clothes in the washer. I plan on doing two loads today.
In a little bit I’ll go upstairs, get the cat carrier, get my son up to take it apart, catch the cat, and put the carrier back together around him. It takes two people to do this, as the cat won’t sit still.
After we get back from the vet, I’m going to clean the inside of the truck, although I could do that while my son is in class. I won’t have the dogs with me today. That’ll give me sonething to do while waiting.
I should ride up to the bank and get a roll of quarters for the parking meter.
It’s also pay bill day.

**MetalMouse **- I actually stole that saying decades ago from… someone?? I don’t recall, but alas, it’s not original. Still, you’re right - it belongs on a t-shirt!

**sari **- some unsolicited advice about crating the cat: Ziva absolutely won’t go in the crate when we have to take her to the vet, but I found if I picked her up by the scruff of her neck, she’d tuck her back legs up and we could put her in the crate with the door facing up. Of course, this assumes your carrier is similar to ours.

Roxy finally got up. She’s been fed and she’s watching PBS Kids. In about half an hour, I’ll get her dressed for the liibrary, and we’ll head out.

While she was breakfasting, I mixed up a batch of teriyaki marinade. I used up the last of what I had for supper last night, so I was able to wash the bottle. It’s now full of fresh stuff, awaiting a future meal. Speaking of which, since it’ll just be 3 of us for supper tonight, I’m thinking I might do fish - daughter and SIL don’t much like it, but I do. I think I have cod and salmon in the freezer. I’ll figure it out after we’re back from the library.

Howdy Y’all! Back from round one of Ash Wednesday. I think Ashes To Go went well. We had sump’n around twenty-five or so folks drive up which I say is not too shabby for a first time thing and for a thing we sorta did on the fly, as in not a whole lot of plannin’ for this was done. It was a humbling act to actually put the ashes on someone’s forehead and say the words, “Remember you are dust and to dust you shall return.” Two of our helpers were girls ages eight and five (sisters) and they were wonderful. Both had the opportunity to impose ashes and were very good at it. Zoe imposed the ashes on my forehead and let me tell y’all, I have been definitely ashed! A very deep, dark, cross is upon my forehead. Zoe meant bidness!

ETA: Afterwards I went to breakfast with five other people who were out this morning. I really enjoyed spendin’ that time with those folks and reflectin’ on our experiences this mornin’.

I think I’m a pretty good cook. Some of my cow-orkers are, too. But day-um! Like I said, they fell on that jambalaya like a bunch of pie-ranna fish! I’ve been making jambalaya and cornbread for Mardi Gras for several years. Usually there are plenty of leftovers, and plenty to take home to Wifey. Yesterday I used almost twice the amount of Holy Trinity, and half-again the amount of chicken, shrimp, and andouille. And a whole bag of rice. Maybe we had more people in the office (we have a three new people). One of the new people tends to eat a lot of food. (Incidentally, he used to be a cook in the Navy.) The thing is, someone (my boss, I think) brought out most of a Costco rotisserie chicken. And she or someone else made a salad. With all of that food, it’s really surprising all of the jambalaya was consumed. I know I make some good jambalaya, but I made it the same way I always make it.

Speaking of food, we have quarterly luncheons presented by teams. They started right after the first time I made the jambalaya. Coincidentally, Team 3 is putting on a feed tomorrow. Teams keep the theme secret, but the secret is out. It’s going to be Mardi Gras themed. The team leader told me the main dish is going to be a seafood boil. (He liked the andouille and shrimp I used, so he told me because he wanted to know where I got them.)

I’m on Team 4. Unfortunately, I’m the only one on Team 4 that knows how to cook. AFAIK, our team’s theme will be ‘Asian food’. I think the women are planning to buy heat-and-eat Chinese food from Costco. I’ve only cooked Chinese dishes at home a couple of times. The one Asian dish I make all the time is aspara nikumaki (Japanese). It wouldn’t really fit, and when I make it for me and Mrs. L.A. I like to arrange it nicely. The nikumaki is cut up like a sushi roll, of course; and is presented in two rows. A small bowl contains a Spring mix salad. I use a ramekin to mould the rice, and ramekins hold the salad dressing/dipping sauce. It would be a nice presentation for a lunch with just a few cow-orkers, but would be a PITA for a Team Lunch. Also, the meat would be expensive. I don’t know. It’s unlucky I got on a team that doesn’t cook.

Here’s BooFae!

But then I have ½ dozen local pizza places that will deliver (I think) within 3 miles. They probably got lost & just decided to build where they were. :o
Saw first wild flowers of the year on Sat; snowdrops, but they is s’posed to be a Feb flower.

I don’t know if I could pick Adam up by the scruff, he is so big.

I have two carriers, on is huge, the airline crate Ripple was shipped in. It’s heavy, a bit too big and Adam slides around in it. The other one is shaped like a dome and is just a tiny bit tight for him. He can turn around in it but it is a tight fit. However, he doesn’t slide around in it, and the vet said for the short time he is in it, it won’t hurt him. I like it better, but it is hard to get him in.
I suppose I should start getting ready, I need to leave around 11.
That’s the problem with cat appointments, they are hard to time. Start too late and you might not make it, start too early and the poor cat has to sit in the crate.
Dogs are so much easier, snap the leash on and walk out the door.
