[spoiler]I think I found an eyelash in my nose today. I am positive it wasn’t a nose hair because I don’t have nose hairs (other than the normal cilia, or whatever they’re called). It looked just like an eyelash. Is this possible? I wouldn’t say I’m worried about it, just a little weirded out.
I found it because there was a small nodule on the lower inner edge of my left nostril. I picked at that spot for a minute after I blew my nose, because it hurt a little bit. The hair came out after a tiny scab and a little dab of green mucus. My uneducated guess is that the hair landed there, and my body got irritated and decided to surround it for some reason.
I guarantee what you are talking about is a nose hair. Cilia are microscopic, they’re not the little hairs you see inside your nostrils.
For some reason, in my experience, ingrown hairs -wherever they occur- end up thicker and darker than the normal hairs around them. So an ingrown nose hair could easily end up looking like an eyelash.
I can’t believe it’s a nose hair because, like I said, I don’t get those (none visible and none that I can feel). Also, my body hair is very fair (so blonde as to be practically invisible from a few feet away)–but, I have dark eyelashes. This hair was dark and curly with a white root, JUST like an eyelash after it falls out.
I suppose I could buy an argument that it was my first big nose hair ever and it just happened to be ingrown. But it really REALLY looked like an eyelash. Spitting image. Is there no way for an eyelash to find its way into one’s nose?
An eyelash getting there strikes me as possible, if rather improbable. An eyelash getting embedded and surrounded by the tissue there strikes me as impossible.
Welcome to the world of wonky nose hairs. I have one that has to be plucked every few months, as it grows long and tickles me. Like yours, it is thicker than its compadres.
Things, especially hair, grows in weird places as we get older. I was rather alarmed one day when I realized a few particular nose hairs in each nostril, if pulled on, will curl around the outside of my nostril. So I had to cringe and pull them out. I have three hairs right at the front tip/top of each nostril that I have to pluck every couple of weeks! They look just like eyelashes.
I also have one long hair that grows in front of my right ear and one that grows along my left jawline. I’ve been plucking them out every few weeks since age 25.
Just because you can’t see them or you have light hair doesn’t mean you don’t have nosehairs. Everybody has them. They trap the dirt particles from going any further into your respiratory system and help to warm up the hair. Mine do look like my eyelashes, just like a tinier version.
This is one of those things that THEY don’t tell you in Health class. Certain ethnicities tend to get more hairs, and darker, coarser hairs, than others, but nobody, NOBODY, is immune from old lady/old man hairs. Sometimes the hairs are dark, sometimes light, sometimes they are rather short, sometimes it seems like they’ll never stop growing. It’s a good idea to check your eyebrows and nose and ears for vigorous hair growth.
Which reminds me, I need to make another appointment with my electrologist.
