Wow, that’s terrible. Soapy. I hope there’s news soon.
For some reason, docs love to prescribe the most expensive muscle relaxants ever, Rebo. I think the old school ones make you sleepier than the new ones, but still. Even in situations where they don’t help, they prescribe them. They are of very limited use, generally for about 2 weeks after an injury. After that, it’s all money down the drain (in most cases). (There are certain fun facts that I know because of my job. Woo hooo.)
Work situation sounds really frustrating, Taters. Glad it helped you to vent.
I potted up some plants for the exchange I’m having with friends in the morning. Then local best friend came over with her aunt and daughter and we went for ice cream and came back and hung out in my living room.
Now I need to get to sleep. Have to be at my friend’s by 8:30 to help set up.
I’m sorry your work sucks Taters. You need to make getting out of there a priority.
BTW, I moved out to Orygun when you were just a wee lass, about…umm :counts on fingers, takes off shoes and socks… still not enough digits… .decides to guess: about 35 years ago. Now I almost fit in.
Just got a call from Wifey. she went down to Eugene (about 100 miles away) to visit her mother. As she started back the car started “doing something weird”. The engine revs way up as she drives. Sounds like the clutch is slipping, if that’s likely in an automatic transmission. I am one of those guys who knows nothing about modern automobiles, so I dunno. I quit trying to work on cars when I sold my '53 Chevy pickup. But anyway, we think it’s the transmission. The BoyChild, who lives in Eugene, is with her now at the rest area just north of Eugene. This is the newest vehicle we have. It’s only 11 years old. A new tranny will cost just about what the car is worth. le sigh
Another call. The consensus is it’s the tranny. Wifey is going to try to limp it home, or as close as she can get.
We also have a '94 Suburban 3/4 ton that gets 8mpg. (Hey, it’s paid for), and an '88 Ford Ranger. (which is a total POS). We could live without the Mazda I suppose, but we’d rather not have to.
So, this week two coworkers and I have been translating essays from Spanish to English. This is pretty tedious since these kids don’t spell very well (“aser” for “hacer”? And worse they come up with “echo” for “hecho,” which is only worse because you think “echo” in English-> translate to throw-> realize they meant to do. argh!) and randomly swap Bs and Vs, but there have been some laughs.
As you might know, cognates are words in two languages that share a common root. There are false cognates too, which just look like they share a root (as many embarrassed people learn when they declare “soy embarazada!”) so one of the others looked puzzled and decided that a phrase must translate into fountain of ingratitude. It really meant source of revenue, but her take was better I need to put that in a fantasy story.
Then there was a badly written explanation about cyber stalkers. The kid probably meant that some people use the internet to pick out victims, but it came out as being kidnapped by the internet.
That’s awesome. Whenever I’m late from now on, I have my excuse. “I’m sorry, I was kidnapped by the internet.”
Good morning, sorta. It’s overcast and bleary looking out. The plan for this morning was to load the newly-painted boom into the truck, go get some breakfast, then go to the marina and install the boom. It’s going to make the mast look worse than it already does, but we can’t afford to have that taken down just now. And after we get home, I’ll start sewing the sail cover. Rah.
Laundry is the other part of the weekend plan. Yep, it’s thrilling here in FairyChatEstates…
**Bumba **- sorry about the car. Those things can be such a pain.
**Taters **- how can your management be that bad? Oh, wait, never mind… Is it a good-ol’-boys network (favoritism) or just cluelessness? Either way, I hope you find an escape soon.
Heh. I read comments on my cousins’ Facebook posts and pictures and go and  and :dubious: all at the same time. Funny story, elfkin. Was the translation for school or work or…? Sounds like an interesting exercise.
Sorry about the car troubles, Bumba. (Isn’t one of us supposed to win big in the lottery sometime soon???)
I’m up and ready to go off to my plant exchange. I have some nice stuff. We’ll see what I can score…
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up, caffienated and brekkied! Butter me cause I’m on a roll! ‘Tis 66 Amurrkin out and pleasant due to low humidity. Still lookin’ for that rain, however. :dubious:
Elf “I was kidnapped by the internet” is perfect! I sorta kinda am more than I’d like to admit to due to my proclivity for randomly lookin’ stuff up.
Soapy hopin’ for good news about your friend soon.
Bumba sorry about the car woes. Transmissions in automatic vehicles are a real pain and expensive!
Rebo  I deal with helpin’ senior citizens lower drug costs a lot and pain meds are the worst for their cost. At least you didn’t yell at the pharmacist or the tech. My sis is a pharmacy tech and she tells me some people blame the pharmacist or her when they think the price of their meds are too much.
Ok, I should go purtify now. I need to go to the sto’ for a few things. That is the only thing I have to accomplish today.
I love “kidnapped by the internet!” I shall be using that excuse often.
Swampy - I know it’s the drug companies. I did bitch to the clerk that the drug companies are makin’ a killin’! They need killin’, now that I think of it…
It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood! A high of 80° is expected, with low humidity. The dogs and I are heading to the dog park after breakfast.
Soapy, that’s just terrible. I really hope they find your friend safe soon. Her poor kids…
I’m sorry about your car woes, **Bumba. ** It seems like stuff always goes wrong when one can least afford it.
FCM, yes my management is that clueless. Actually, I think they just don’t give a good damn. Favoratism is rampant in this organization. It’s never affected me in the past, but it bit me hard this time.
Believe me Bumba, I’m working hard on trying to get the hell out of that office. I’m still waiting to hear on a job I was referred for. I found out yesterday that although they’ve had a list of names for a month, they haven’t done anything with it. On the one hand, it makes me feel better to know there’s a possibility; on the other hand, I hate that my hopes have gone up just a little and it could still come to naught.
I have to renew my driver’s license today. The DMV closest to my house isn’t open on Saturdays, so I have to go to the “downtown” DMV. Some of the customers in there would put the “peopleofwalmart” denizens to shame.
Dang CatDude that means I’ll have to smack myself for today. Ok, I did go to the grocery sto’ but other than that I have done nuttin’ and plan for it to stay that way. I woke up from a nap a bit ago and OYKW is still snoozin’. Hee. I closed the bedroom door but every once in a while I hear a sound that’s like I have a wild bear trapped in the bedroom. Hmmmm… wild bear in the bedroom… WOOF!
Back from running about. We had breakfast, ran by WalMart so I could get a skein of yarn, then to West Marine to look at snaps (doggone, marine hardware is EXPENSIVE!!!) Calvert Marine Museum was doing their Patuxent River Appreciation Days, so we walked around there a bit. Several guys had really old (100+ years old) diesel engines on display and running - they were pretty cool! But now we’re back.
**FCD **just left for the marina with the boom. It was raining when we left earlier, so we decided to put it off till tomorrow, then it stopped raining so he’s going now. I’m cutting out the new sail cover and I’ll start to assemble it shortly. I may end up taking the sewing machine to the boat because we’re trying a different kind of cover and I’ll have to fit it to the boom to make it work. Luckily my machine is really lightweight and the table in the cabin is a decent size. Maybe I’ll do that tomorrow.
Grey, dreary, and yuck still, but the temps are comfy, so no need for a/c or heat so yay for lower energy bills! And back to work with me. I just popped in to find out if Sunbrella has a right and wrong side. It doesn’t. So that’s great - it saves me a fortune in fabric. Yay again!
I’ve just returned from renewing my driver license.
It was a madhouse down there today. Lots and lots of people were there to get enhanced driver licenses and those take longer. They kept telling people it might be better to come back on another day because they were backed up nearly two hours on those.
As it was, I sat there around 45 minutes, which isn’t truly awful, but I talked to people who had been sitting there nearly two hours.
You can use them almost like a passport. People here typically get them so they can get into Canada without having to show a passport. They require all the same documentation a passport requires.
I just downloaded the forms for renewing our passports. Man, those suckers have gotten expensive!! Gotta get our pictures took first. I think WalMart will do that. This should be plenty of time to get them by January, eh?
I’ve been weeding like crazy. I’ve still got a ways to go, but I have made a lot of progress. Unfortunately, our yard waste bin is now full, so I’ll have to toss the weeds into a pile until we can get the bin emptied. Fortunately, Wednesday is yard bin day.
