I can haz free lunch. Take that, Robert Heinlein! No cake, sadly, but a day-old donut made a half-decent substitute. I’m going to get fat if they’re feeding us free food regular-like, though… at heart, I’m still a starving university student and stuff my face whenever free food is presented.
Moooooom, I’m thinking chickie soup is just the ticket. We have some homemade chicken broth left in the freezer, methinks, so all I need is rice or noodles to call it a meal. Huzzah! Though
Rick, I’m totally borrowing that “cream of elephant” thing. Where shall I send the royalty cheques?
LV, congrats on the move n’ stuff! The first little while is totally overwhelming, but just think how nice it’ll be once you’re settled in. How are the kittehs settling in?
Bacon and Anti-Craft have joined forces? Crap. There goes my afternoon.
This fudge thing is ruining two perfect foods for me: bacon and chocolate. No way will I ever mix the two. I can eat choccie after bacon, but not together… ugh!
Busy day here, another busy day tomorrow. Weeded quite a bit, foraged for food (and managed to spend $198 with coupon), and practiced my guitar. I so totally suck at guitar, but I shall persevere.
Beat ya to it - I’ve got a chickie carcass boiling away right now, and I cut/shredded the remaining breast. In another hour or so, I’ll strain the broth, pick the last of the meat off the bones, then toss some veggies and rice in the mix.
A nice lemon meringue would go good as dessert. Maybe another day.
Li-Li, I’m not sure about my culinary prowess either. I had outdated tortilla chips for dinner last night.
Rick, welcome! Did you notice that I affirmed your coolness in the Pie thread?
I just woke up from a somewhat disjointed nap. That’s really ok, though, because I at least got one more lunch scheduled out of it. Now I’m sitting here snacking on some potato chips. A week or so ago my dad stopped at the Grandma Shearer’s outlet on his way home from a delivery. Not a good plan when you’re hungry.
I was instructed to post my chocolate chip cookie pie recipe here for proper pie documentation by SmartAleq, so here it is! Trust me when I say it is the most delicious thing you have ever put in your mouth. I will bring it to the New Jersey Dopefest in July so that everyone can experience the wonderousness of my pie.
2 eggs, beaten
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup flour
1 stick of margerine, melted
6-12 oz of chocolate chips (I use 12, but people who don’t feel like they need that much can use 6 oz instead.)
1 tsp vanilla
1 premade graham cracker pie crust
Beat the eggs and add each ingredient individually, mixing after each is added. Pour into unbaked pie shell and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
I am not kidding when I say that I have seen people get into arguments over the last slice of this pie. If you make it be prepared for proposals and offers of cash for future pies.
All that sounds yummy… maybe I’ll make a lemon meringue, I think I have all the stuff.
I once made the mistake of buying a lemon meringue pie from the store (and a key lime). I couldn’t eat it, it was too sweet and just nasty so even though I could eat them often I have to wait until I have the time and inclination to bake.
That is why I am here, I figure it is my only route to true coolness.
Thanks for the welcome everyone.
I go the car shoveled out, and to get the outside washed.
Shoveled out as in the interior was dirty. Soda cans under seats, dog hair in the cargo area, receipts all over, dog slobber on the inside of the windows. You get the idea.
I suspect “shoveled” refers to ridding the interior of an accumulation of miscellaneous debris, like month-old french fries, empty beverage cans, assorted receipts, nesting vermin…
Welcome, Rick! You realize, having posted here, you must now send me chocolate love offerings. Sorry, it’s The Rule. You wouldn’t want to break The Rule, now, would you??
rosie I met JC years ago. Plains Jawja is a whole 25 miles from where I live.
MOOOOOOM what? I’ve been headhunted before. Matter of fact I even turned down a job I was offered due to a headhunt. That term is just gruesome ain’t it!
Ok, ol’ y’all know who is here. He’s tahred from drivin’, poor thing. We’re goin’ to grab sump’n to eat.
Went to pet store to get crickets. They’re going out of business at the end of the month. Had to go to PetStupid which I hate even more because they’re driving all the small pet sto’s out of business.
Went to The Walmarts to get some DVD envelopes. Their DVD-R section is in quite a disarray. Went to Best Buy to get some DVD envelopes. They don’t have the colored kind (I’m color-coding the DVDs I’m burning) and the plain white envelopes are $8 for 50. Went to Tarzhay to get some DVD envelopes. They had the ones I was looking for. $4 for 50. Also got some gum so Complicated Roommate will quit asking me if I have any and a Dr. Pepper with Harrison Ford on the label because I was ticked.
Came home and decided to walk Zeldadog. Walked Zeldadog in the Nearby Circular Neighborhood. Came home and realized I had left the keys in the house.
Went next door to Adopted Parents for the spare key. Adopted Dad let me in the house.
Chef Boyardee is making my dinner tonight. It’s supposed to get down to the 40s tonight. It’s May, right?
No chicken stock left in the freezer. What I thought was the last remaining container is actually lobster stock… which is equally delish, but wouldn’t be much good for making chicken soup.
Soooo… Plan B time. I’ve got the makings of Chicken a la King (since I’m too lazy to bother with pot pie), which I shall serve on some brown rice.
Chicken a la King
2 tbsp butter
2 cups sliced fresh mushrooms
1/4 cup finely chopped green pepper
1/4 cup finely chopped red pepper
1 onion, finely chopped
2 tbsp flour
Salt & pepper to taste
1/2 cup chicken stock
2 cups milk
2 cups cubed leftover chicken
1/2 cup frozen peas
In a skillet, melt butter over medium-high heat. Add mushrooms, peppers and onion (some people might add some finely diced celery too, but I think they’re crazy… celery is for pot pie, not a la king, you heathens!); cook for 5 minutes, or until onions are soft. Add flour and continue cooking, stirring often, for a minute or two (just enough to cook out the raw flour taste, but not enough to give it any colour). Season with S&P.
Whisk in chicken stock and milk. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and continue cooking, stirring often, until mixture thickens. Stir in chicken and frozen peas, and simmer until everything is heated through.
Serve piping hot on rice or fresh biscuits or in puff pastry shells, depending on how fancified you’re feeling.
**swampy ** - I was referring to the job being for the Director’s position. Like being a head honcho wouldn’t make you all power mad…
It’s raining again. According to the weather guy in Baltimore, we’re now something like 4" ahead of the *year’s * rain total. It’s May, and we’ve already exceeded the annual amount. I’m guessing we’ve probably made up for the deficit from last year. On my way home, I noticed several of the newly planted fields are partially flooded. That’s probably not too good…
Papa John’s is cooking our dinner tonight. Neither of us wanted to cook since we’re leaving tomorrow in any case. No point in getting a bunch more dishes dirty.
I’m currently on laundry load #4 – only one more to go – and have my packing list put together pretty well, I do believe so that I can get packed in the morning. I even remembered to put the power cord for snowbunny’s desktop computer in my computer bag since we neglected to include it in the cube when we shipped her stuff. So now I just need to pack and finish getting stuff together. I hope I’m not the only one who keeps multiple packing lists on her computer – weekend, week-long, summer, winter. It always needs some amending, but it’s still the only way I manage not to forget anything crucial, the memory being a thing of the past these days.
It’s really nice not to have to rush around like an idiot getting ready to go out of town; usually I’m finishing up work right up until the second I leave. So allowing myself a whole day and a half really feels luxurious. Yes, I’m easily pleased.
Back to relaxing for a few minutes till the pizza arrives.
I won’t stop until I’m made Emperor! One of the duties of the Director is to deal with nonpayment of mortgages and if necessary, beginning foreclosure proceedures. HfH homeowners are given very low to no interest loans and some do default on those loans. That would be tough. I could do it, but it’d be tough. Ah… it ain’t like I have the job or anything yet, so it ain’t my problem yet. This is a local HfH and the entire staff is like ten people. Not much to build an empire with is it.
We went to pizza buffet for dindin. Ol’ y’all know who is so tired he went home to go to bed. He has to go to work tomorrow, poor thing. Well, I do too. So, tomorrow night will be the official “welcome” home time.
Whew, guess what I have been doing since I posted? Midwifing puppies! I will post photos later, after they have dried off and had a good feed and a nap. Four pups, three red/orange males and one small black female. Mama Tara and pups are doing well.
I’ll catch up later tonight, right now I am just too thrilled about puppies!
