We won't have Spicer to kick around any more.

Spicer tried to defend the indefensible. He was on the side of evil. And yet, as several poster upthread suggest, he wasn’t an entirely unsympathetic character. Maybe because we know he was once the Easter Bunny on the White House lawn? Maybe because he didn’t send angry 3 am tweets about Melissa McCarthy’s impersonation, but almost seemed to take it with a tiny bit of grace? Maybe because he was horribly abused by Trump et al despite his firm loyalty? I dunno why, but I just can’t bring myself to hate him. I wish him luck, and I might read his book.

Yet.

This new guy has what it takes! When Spicer did it, you might detect a hint of regret. This new guy lies his ass off and grows a new one before he takes another breath!

I look forward to calling the new communication director “Moochie” at every opportunity.

What’s wrong with “Scar”? Or “Bullshit McShitface”?

Don’t forget Sean signed an NDA to get the job. No SNL, no book, not until Trump is dead.

He’s right about the “ship heading in the right direction”. Being “down”.

The “Sean Spicier” parody Twitter account was awesome. I’ll be curious to see if that guy rebrands.

A bit disappointed at this choice, was kinda pulling for O.J…

The announcement of this new guy with a name from a Queen song made me realize I’ve already forgotten about the Melissa McCarthy guy. I can’t imagine why people keep accepting job offers from Trump.

He’s a financier. He wouldn’t have taken the job without a solid offer of loot to be had for the taking.

Although I agree he won’t go on SNL, he could go on SNL so long as he doesn’t violate his NDA. I’d still love to see him do it just because I think he has enough of a sense of humour to poke fun at himself.

Does $179,700 sound like a “solid offer of loot” to a Wall Street type?

I think that if there had. Even a normal GOP president (e.g. Jeb Bush), Spicey would have done a good job. He’s got the standard GOP credentials to give good media.

His problem was he wasn’t acting for a normal GOP president, but someone for whom the truth was entirely transactional and the media were the enemy.

Sorry, I misquoted that. It was actually “great television ratings.”

I didn’t use “loot” in reference to his salary–he will have been promised other things of value. (Trump’s admiration of Putin surely extends to the way Putin bought loyalty by handing privatized industries to allies, with of course a promise of a steady stream of those industries’ revenues going into Putin’s own pocket. One account: http://www.reuters.com/article/us-russia-privatisation-plan-idUSKCN0VB23D)

I bet Spicey is relieved beyond belief. He’s probably sitting on his deck, got the shades on, and having a few Manhattans or whatever his drink of choice may be.

Scarface?

Should be fun to watch the new guy go against all of his previous principles.

What you are describing is pretty much the textbook definition of an illegal gratuity, so that both Trump and this new guy would be subject to 15 years in the slammer. While the whole shady meeting with the Russian attorney last year probably isn’t any kind of crime, this “promised loot” you are speaking of us pretty much a slam dunk for conviction.

I will not hold my breath for the indictment, as even I can’t imagine that those two are that stupid.
