Weeds; Season 6 (open spoilers after each airing)

Two episodes an nobody’s started a season 6 thead for Weeds yet? Since this is the first time I’m watching it in real time instead of waiting for the DVDs to come out I figured I might as well start one.

So Pilar is dead, Shane’s gotten even weirder, Cesar knows, and the Botwins are living in Seattle under assumed names. This looks like it’s going to be another great season. Of course now I have to wait a whole week in between each episode instead of watching them all in a mini marathone over the course of a week. :smack:

No doubt. Where’s all the Weeds fans?

So far this season has been kind of treading water as they get set up in their new lives. I wonder if they are going to stick to their new names? I bet it would be the 1st time an entire cast has changed names in the middle of a show.

Also, the whole premise of the show was her being a pot dealer to make money after her husband died. I wonder where they’re going to go with it now. Looking forward to finding out.

I’m not really looking forward to find out. I’m not enjoying this season. I hate this plot line and the only thing making it watchable is Randy Newman. (hee hee). No Doug, no Dean, no Celia, no Isabella, no Halia, no Conrad: the show NEEDS one or more of them.

I’m not sure how much longer I’ll stick with it. The second episode wasnt as bad as the first but it wasnt funny and the show is missing all the best characters. If they awkwardly injected all those characters you mentioned back into the show and never mentioned the retarded Mexican plot line ever again with no explanation at all, I’d still be really happy.

It seems to me that there’s two television shows right now about normal people who are forced to sell drugs to support their family. One is an hour long drama and one is a comedy, yet Breaking Bad has been funnier than the past season of Weeds and this one so far. It’s just too dark and they’re not using the best characters on the show.

Not directly related to the series but I was reading an interview Mary Louise Parker did recently to promote the new season. The interviewer was surprised by Parker’s admission that she has never smoked marijuana in her life.

Well it sure didn’t take her long to get back to selling drugs. I’m thinking having Shane take care of the baby is not the best idea.

We’ve even had a Doug sighting. It looks like the writers might be trying to steer things back to how they were earlier in the show. I hope so, it was funnier then.

I’m still watching and I’m still enjoying, but I think the show has lost its way a bit and I can tell you when that happened: Season 4, episode 1’s intro. No “Tiny Boxes” to play us in.

The whole concept of the show was this bored housewife in the middle of gated suburbia where everyone’s perfect and rich and elite and the same and here she is selling drugs to everyone. But they burned down Majestic and took out the song because they weren’t in suburbia any more. That one simple shift was a concious effort to tell the viewers that this show is going to go in a radically different direction than what was established from the previous 3 seasons.

Like it or not, it has. Personally, I miss the song.

I’m not loving the new season because it is really over the place, and has lost it’s suburban grounding. It’s still funny and I still like the characters, but it has lost its satirical bite.

Didn’t Celia assemble a team in last season’s final episode? Weren’t Doug and Ignacio on the same team?

Bump.

I just caught up with the series save for last night’s episode. I don’t know if it’s intentional or just lazy writing but it’s not only jumped the shark but fallen in. Nancy is now just flat out trash who needs to be arrested and locked up and even Dale Dickey in her trademarked “trailer trash matriarch” roel and Mark Paul Gosselaar’s bare butt (though I suspect it was a body double) didn’t make the trailer park episode good.

IIRC this is the final season. It needs to end with the family turning state’s evidence against Esteban (if the FBI/ATB can even prosecute him since he’s a well protected Mexican official and it would be a bureaucratic nightmare) and changing their identities correctly this time.

I vote lazy writing for problems like the following:

Silas/Michael wins a $100,000 Winnebago and they have to forego it due to his not having a SSN and driver’s license.
1- Didn’t they just buy fake IDs? Did it not occur to them to get fake SSNs as well? You kind of need one after all.
2- Why not just give his own SSN? He’s not wanted or anything. True it would be tracked by a private investigator but by that time they could be long gone- in their $100,000 Winnebago. In fact they could probably legally sell it before they were caught.
3- If neither of the above is possible did it just not occur to them before even entering the contest that you don’t win a $100,000 prize and just have the person say “Cool beans, here’s your keys, smile for the camera, enjoy!”
4- Where did they get the money to buy the RV they did buy when they’d already established they were broke? Even if they rolled Cesar and Ignacio that wouldn’t be a lot- maybe a couple of thousand tops.

Season Seven has already been contracted for. I’m kind of over the show but keep watching just to see what happens. I’ve lost all sympathy for pretty much everyone but Andy, and hope all of them get their comeuppance at the end of the series.
