Week 5 Fantasy Football Discussion

My team for next week looks awesome. I got my KC guys back and none of my main stars are on byes.

However, I’ve got these guys on my radar:
Ryan Torain (Was)
Mike Tolbert (SD)
Rickey Williams (Mia)
All three of the above are performing better than the guys in front of them and will probably see more playing time down the line. However, I’m pretty rich at RB already with MJD (finally), Addai, and Jamaal Charles (2 rb, 1 flex) with BenJarvus on bye this week.

At WR, I’m a bit thinner with Ochocinco dragging down my starters (play 3.) Calvin Johnson, Lance Moore (lucky WW pick there with him getting punt return duties), Dwayne Bowe, and Demaryius Thomas. Chad will probably start because they’re at home vs TB, but I think I need to replace Thomas. On the waiver:
Roy Williams
Eddie Royal
Davone Bess

I like Davone, but Roy and Eddie could be the home run hitters.

My kicker (Reed) is on bye this week, but I’ll probably just drop him. When he loses his confidence like that, it could last for the whole season.
Possible replacements:
Mike Nugent (Cin)
Matt Bryant (Atl)

I really like KC’s defense. However, I already have New Orleans and Chicago, and new England looked really impressive last night.

My questions:

  1. Am I solid enough at RB? Should I get one of the up and comers? Should I think about being thankful to have Benjarvus this week, drop him, and get someone else?

  2. Should I give Demaryius more time?

  3. Which kicker should I get?

  4. Was New England just a one time deal? I think KC is more consistent this season, but neither team has as soft a schedule as NO and Chicago. Also, I think of the 4, KC has the most dynamic returner in McCluster (the rest have their best returner only doing kicks or punts, not both.)

I picked up Torain. Ricky will be up and down depending on the opponent and how Ronny Brown is doing, but less upside than Torain. Tolbert will get goal line carries but if Matthews starts showing his stuff may get less and less carries.

As for Thomas, I’d keep him. He’s in a pass first offense with no current running game, lots of upside there.

As for the kickers, I like Bryant, but wouldn’t bitch if I had Nugent.

I like the KC defense, but they have a tough schedule. I don’t trust the NE defense.

Ricky Williams needs to be picked up in your league. I don’t trust Joseph Addai at all, and I certainly don’t trust any Colts players to do anything for me in the playoffs. Addai had 6 games with over 100 yards of offense in 2007. Since then, he’s had a total of 5 games. He’s just not that good (or at least, poorly used).

Also - what are you league settings where Lance Moore is useful in an 8 team league? How many points are you getting for return yards?

Speaking as someone who got hosed in the championship game last year because of Peyton Manning, I agree in theory, but they do look less dominant this year. They may actually have to compete late in the season.

He’s in an 8 team league? I figured from his players it was a 12 team.

8, and the top 6 make the playoffs. In other words - draft for December.

Yeah - but I doubt you’d have said that the day of your draft.

He’s useful when he scores.

It’s something like 1 pt per rec, 8 yards/point rec, 8 pts/td, and 30 yards/pt returns.

He scored 15 points for me last week, vs 10 for Chad.

With Marshawn Lynch traded to the Seahawks, will he or CJ Spiller have any value? I think CJ will be worth more than Lynch.

Well, now that waiver claims are all processed for the week, I can comment… Brandon LLoyd is the #4 scoring WR. At least in a half PPR format. What the hell is that? Some weird shit going down in Denver. I just snatched him for $31 FAAB and I have no idea if anyone came close. Imagine if someone close in score but with some star power like Roddy White or Anquan Boldin was available on the waiver wire - people would be selling their kidneys to get him.

Is LLoyd going to keep it up? Can I trust the Denver offense? Should I be starting him over Calvin Johnson vs St. Louis (probably not) or Mark Clayton @DET?

They already lost two games, and they just lost Melvin Bullitt, so you can throw that analysis out the window–they’ll probably be playing to win thru wk 17.

Ricky Williams is certainly not outplaying Ronnie Brown. Brown has more carries, higher YPC, and more catches and receiving yards.

Torain’s the guy you want. Tolbert’s not going to win the starting job, but Torain just might.

Bess is a marginal guy even in 12-team, three receiver leagues. As with Ricky Williams, he only has value if the only Dolphins game you’ve seen this season was the Monday nighter. Bess is the fourth option in Miami right now.

I don’t care how they start; they’re going to win 11 games, minimum. Right now, it doesn’t look much like anyone in the AFC is going to win more than 12.

Indeed. In fact, I traded Manning prior to the start of the season. Fool me once, shame on me, fool me twice…

You, sir, are a doofus.

OK here are my options, 2 WR, 1 TE, and 1 TE/WR flex

My WRS:
Austin Collie (definite start)
Anquan Boldin (definite start)
Randy Moss (against Darrel Revis)
Michael Crabtree

TEs:
Greg Olsen (definite start)
Jeremy Shockey

So the question is who to put in the flex: Moss, Crabtree or Shockey. Crabtree is kind of a bust so far this year, so he is probably option number three, Shockey and Moss have been actually pretty close in Fantasy points. What to do?

No argument there, but not by virtue of this trade. I got Adrian Peterson and Andre Johnson back.

Under any other circumstances, I’d laugh at the idea of starting a wideout who was traded less than a week before kickoff to a team with a mediocre quarterback at best.

On the other hand, it’s Randy Freakin’ Moss and your other options are no better. I’d roll the dice on Moss. He doesn’t need to know the playbook to run go routes.

ETA: Splines, I withdraw my observation. You, sir, are a genius. What else did you give up?

It was a 2 for 2, Manning and LeSean McCoy for Peterson/Johnson.

Okay, the other guy is a doofus.

My boiggest worry with Moss is not so much he just got traded but that he wil be up against Darell Revis who is generally death to number one wideouts fantasy production.
